Servants of the Light is a modern-day Western Mystery School which teaches the esoteric sciences through correspondence. These sciences, which in their true form constitute the Yoga of the West, have previously been 'occult' (which means "hidden"), but nowadays they can be taught in a more open fashion.

SOL was founded in 1965 by W. E. Butler. He received his training in Dion Fortune's Fraternity of the Inner Light, which in turn stemmed from The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. He was also trained by the psychic Robert King. Mr Butler served as Director of Studies until his death in 1978 when he was succeeded by Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki, third-generation psychic, mediator, author, lecturer and workshop facilitator.

The stated purpose of the SOL is to assist in spreading esoteric knowledge in an ethical manner to all who want to receive it, regardless of religious denomination, gender, nationality, race, age, social position or income. All who desire to do so should be able to study the Mysteries, the true inner spiritual heritage of the West.

The primary vehicle for teaching that the SOL uses is Hermetic Kabbalah.

The head of this school is Dolores Ashcroft Nowicki Who lives in Jersey where the SOL is based.

Sounds so much like the Light of Egypt.

Let me guess, these sciences are 3. Astrology, Alchemy and Magic.

I was a member years ago. You have to pay a small fee for each lesson. It was £5 when I was doing them. I also got an invite to do a course in Pendulum dowsing. The cost of a couple of days of learning of dowsing seemed a bit excessive to me and I gradually drifted away from them.

Sounds a lot like AMORC.

Well I never joined SOL, but from what I can make out they are nothing like AMORC.
I think SOL is more Western Hermetic/Kabbalah/Ritual-White Magick, whereas from what I remembe about AMORC, they keep everything as secret as possible so they can charge you for more Monographs, one other thing I remeber about AMORC was that they often asked you/me to concentrate on some relatively umknown member of Congress.
I would recommend B.O.T.A. Builders Of The Adytum for interesting and up to date mail order occultism, start off with Tarot and Tree of Life/Kabbalah and I think they're exercises are quite interesting from what I remember.
I got the impression from S.O.L. that they are quite discerning when it comes to choosing 'pupils', maybe that is why they are expensive. I must admit though I have never been involved with S.O.L.
I think I met Dolores once, wasn't she the head of the Fellowship of Isis"?

On a different note, I would recommend Franz Bardon's "Initiation Into Hermetics" as a good constuct of Hermetic ocultism.
I feel I am missing something out here, ah I c ; )

I got the impression from AMORC that anyone can join if they pay their dues and I thought that they were quite expensive.

I sent off for some information about BOTA are they the ones that get you to do your own tarot cards? How do SOL screen their members?
