Lookfar just pointed out the Planetary change forum to me. LOL I'm a space cadet.
Anyway, thought it would be good to have a thread dedicated to earth changes that happen everyday so we can stay on top of things.
A 6.7 magnitude quake has hit off the coast of Honshu, Japan. At this time I have no details on possible human effect.
Also, just a couple of days after the Indonesian volcano Gamkanora erupted causing the evacuation of over 9000 people, Ol Doinyo volcano in Tanzania has had two quakes of 5.4 and 4.7 at shallow depth which could indicate an eruption soon.
Sorry, this is just me reporting, no articles on the web yet about the events. If white tourists are not effected, there probably won't won't be any articles written. Not prejudice, just fact LOL
So far two aftershocks of 5.8 and 4.6 have been recorded.

Hehe no worries HK, there are lots of forums to choose from now, so you should be able to find a place to fit everything in :)
Just saw this article on the BBC News site regarding the Japan quake, although there doesn't seem to be much info at present...

6.8 Twin quake to the Honshu quake just hit in Japan !
eastern sea of Japan actually, could be tsunami potential, probably not a large one though.
Thanks for the link lookfar. Interesting pattern today. twin quakes in the Aleutian chain, twin large quakes in japan... and a nice string across the tip of south america.

Now that I've got more than a second..the link lookfar provided tells of a here's a quote
"central Japan has damaged a large nuclear power plant causing a leak of radioactive material, officials at the plant have said.
A small amount of water containing radioactive substances leaked into the sea, officials said, and a fire broke out at the plant in Kashiwazaki.
At least seven people were killed and hundreds injured in the earthquake. "
This is exactly why I am so against nuclear power. Totally flippin' irresponsible !

this is a great idea for a thread! can we sticky it please?
this way we can keep up to date about all kinds of things going on all over the world, something next to impossible if you're just reading the papers.

This seems to be the day for quakes.
7 quakes in the Fox Islands of Alaska ranging from 4.9 to 6.1
I'm thinking the Japan and alsaka quakes are related, one fault slips, another has to adjust etc..
Hawaii also seems to be quaking today although it's just an increase in microquake activity by the big volcano. If the Hawaiian microquake activity keeps up, there should be an increase of microquake activity at Yellowstone.
I second the sticky motion. :)

A strong earthquake hit East Africa on Tuesday, the latest in the region in several days, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The USGS said the quake struck in northern Tanzania, 167km from the western town of Arusha, and measured 6,1 on the Richter scale of magnitude.
The tremors could be felt more than 240km away in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, where high-rise buildings shook gently for several minutes.
Kenya and Tanzania lie along the geologically active Great Rift Valley.

4.2 quake hit the San Franciso bay area 2 miles from Oakland, California. A second lesser shock has been reported but is still unconfirmed.
Here's some info on that.

Update on the situation at Ol Doinyo volcano in Tanzania:
Shallow quake clusters have been hitting the Rift Valley area in Tanzania, with 12 quakes measuring above M4. There are many volcanos in the area. Ol Doinyo is the best bet for an eruption but it could effect Meru, Kilimanjaro or others. Researchers are trying to determine if the quakes are being caused by magma movement.

Bad day for the west coast of South America. We have twin quakes, a 6.2 in Argentina, and a 6.1 in Brazil, also a 4.9 in Equador. All western, probably magma induced, very active volcanic areas there.

Great thread idea harbingers kiss.
After the quakes in Japan we had a couple here in California (which you've mentioned) and it seems like the ol' Ring of Fire is rockin' and rollin' once again. It's been so quiet here in southern Calif. for so long now, I was wondering how long this would last. All I know is that it's been super intense since the Solstice (June 21st) and the Earth shaking here n' there now dosen't surprise me much. Earth chiropractics! ;)

Thanks. They don't call me "harbinger" for nuttin' ;)
I just notcied a 5.4 in Sumatra and since the tsunami of 04', Sumatra has been the instigator in the ring of fire clusters. Every time Sumatra gets a quake of 4 mag or over, the ring of fire starts shaking. (although that pattern has changed somewhat in recent months) What most people don't know is that the initial big quakes of 04' that caused the tsunami, were tectonic slides that created a huge opening in the crust. There is now a large submarine volcano there that will eventually break surface. This is causing more sliding than usual (even for Sumatra) and it ping pongs along the whole ring. There is another submarine volcano in Tonga that broke the surface last year..or early this year..hmm anyway, when that area quakes it can set off the ring too. As far as anything astronomical, I've noticed there are usually more and larger quakes when the sun is active or when we get hit by gamma ray bursts. My best guess it it does something to the EM field which stresses the plates somehow. This is kind of why I am keeping an eye on everything. With the next solar max predicted by NASA (and the mayans) to be the largest ever recorded...the earth could do some major shifting and volcanic venting.
As for california, I've been working on logging pre-quake patterns that might be able to predict larger quakes. Unfortunately I am moody and sometimes leave the maps for days..LOL I really need to quit doing that.

Swarm of quakes in P.N.G. ranging up to 5.9 M. This is a very volcanic area but I have no info at the moment that suggests this is a volcanic event.

A powerful undersea earthquake has struck the north-eastern Indonesian province of North Maluku.
Indonesian and US officials initially issued a tsunami warning, which they later cancelled.
The quake hit more than 200km (130 miles) north of Ternate city with a magnitude of 6.6, officials said. There were no immediate reports of damage.
Earthquakes and tsunamis are frequent in Indonesia, part of the seismically active Pacific "Ring of Fire".
The quake occurred under the Maluku Sea at 1340 (0540 GMT), with a depth of 44.6km (27.7 miles).

A powerful earthquake rattled Vanuatu in the South Pacific early Thursday, causing cracks in roads and buildings and prompting brief evacuations due to tsunami fears, officials said.
The 7.2 quake struck at 4:08 a.m. and was centered 30 miles southeast of the town of Luganville, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.
"There are no casualties reported at this stage," said Esrom Molita of the nation's National Disaster Management Office in the capital, Port Vila.

One of Alaska's most active volcanoes could be working toward a massive eruption that could affect air travel but was not expected to threaten any of the towns in the area, scientists said Thursday.

Scientists say the Pavlof Volcano in Alaska, seen here in an undated photo, is set to blow. Although it may disrupt air travel, the volcano doesn't make the list of the five most dangerous in the U.S. Click through the gallery to see them.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - A volcano erupted in the remote desert of northern Ethiopia, and two people were missing, the state-run news agency said.
The volcano spewed lava for about two hours Sunday in the Afar region, a spectacular yet barren expanse of volcanoes and ancient salt mines where bandits and rebels operate.
The area is inhabited mostly by nomads.
The eruption was reported to government officials via telegram and they sent a team to investigate, the Ethiopian News Agency reported Wednesday.
The area is one of the hottest and most inhospitable in the world, with an average annual temperature of 95 degrees, although it often gets much hotter.
