Three 300 calorie meals a day adds up to 900 calories for the entire day. If you do any sort of physical activity you will find it tough going on such a restricted, low energy diet.

Six or seven small meals (300 cal) throughout the day will add up to enough calories and the metabolism will turn into a furnace.
When the body only takes in small calories at a time, spread throughout the day, it assumes it is in survival mode (foraging and such). Fat starts to fly off the body.
