Boots/footwear/socks etc...

Anyone here had any experience with 'Lowa' brand boots? I've been thinking of getting a pair of their mil-spec type Seeker GTx's ....any thoughts???

Willing to spend top $$$$ on footwear, leaning more towards USMC/tactical stuff like Bates/Danner/converse etc. Maybe some Americans here could help me:confused:

For socks I imported plenty of US Army OD green socks. I also have a few sets of hard-wearing work socks made here in NZ. 3 pairs for $12.

My 6 year old sneakers ain't gonna last forever....

Vibram can be slippery on smooth urban surfaces and if Gortex gets wet,it stays
wet for ages.
I dont know what the US use as a basic issue army boot but I use the British army standard issue boot. Full leather with industrial rubber soles which mean they dont slip.
There's a reason why these boots are given to the soldiers-becouse they're the best. If Vibram was the superior sole,the military would use them. My boots last longer than any civvie boot,are the easiest to look after,are good in almost any terrain you're likely to come across and cost 20 - 30 quid brand new. It's a no-brainer.

I've got some US jungle boots. They're as slippery as fuck. Of course;being jungle boots,they wont be water proof. They're designed to allow your feet to get wet and let the water drain out again becouse in the jungle,your feet will invariably get wet anyway. In temperate climes,you want to keep your feet dry.

I got my last pair from exarmy.co.uk but the site doesnt seem to be working. You can still get super grade for 30 quid which means they've been round a parade ground once and thats it. I've had supergrade before and grade 1 and they are virtually new but without the infamous stifness cos they've already been broken in.
Once upon a time,you would piss in your new boots to soften them up but that was more for the older issue of boot.
A bit of spit and parade ground polish and they will look spanking new.

Got a pair of them in me BOB, very good bit of kit. Mine have got steel toecaps in though, so aren't so light.

I use the standard US Army combat boots (you know, just like Grandma wore ;) ). However, you have to keep them either polished or dressed with "bear grease" to keep them flexible and water-proof.
