Police have urged shoppers to be "vigilant at all times" after threats forced 14 Tesco stores to shut.

Police closed the shops across the UK on Saturday afternoon but they reopened for normal trading on Sunday.

Hertfordshire Police, which is leading the investigation, said each store had been searched and given the all-clear.

"There is still no reason to believe that the incidents are linked to extremism of any kind," the constabulary added.

On customer was quoted as saying "Me, the wife and the children were in there, basically just doing a normal shop and it came over the tannoy that we were asked to leave, basically, go to the cashier, pay for your groceries and then leave."

So it was obviously no real threat given that they were encouraged to pay for their groceries first.

But as Tesco's say ... every little hleps.

Fear mongering? I love this quote:

"Me, the wife and the children were in there, basically just doing a normal shop and it came over the tannoy that we were asked to leave, basically, go to the cashier, pay for your groceries and then leave."

Not much of an emergency, eh?

IT was an extortion attempt.

Saturday was designated a "national day of action" against Tesco by animal rights groups, who claimed the store was selling live turtles at outlets in China.

Hertfordshire police were quoted as saying ...

"All threats are treated seriously and public safety is of utmost importance in this investigation. Every effort is being made to trace those involved."

Tesco were quoted as saying ...

"As always, the safety and well-being of staff and customers is Tesco's priority,"

Yet the customer stated he was encouraged to pay for his goods before leaving. ... "basically, go to the cashier, pay for your groceries and then leave"

Public danger, my arse. But apparently they had a nice wee bit of a sideshow by blowing up a "suspect package" outside one store. Probably one of the staff's packed lunch box.

I thought the whole thing was odd right down to the lack of urgency of the customers being asked to leave. All a bit suspect.

I bet you it was Sainsbury's, seeing the figures were down and figured given all the terror fears right now, get them to shut some of their stores on the busiest day of the week ;)
