Multivitamins contain 'more' than they say
Sun, 12 Apr 2009 14:05:56 GMT
Health officials say a large number of existing multivitamins contain more or less of an ingredient than that mentioned on their labels.
According to a report recently released by ConsumerLab.com, more than 30 percent of multivitamin products do not contain the same amount of an ingredient as they claim.
Many of them are reported to be contaminated with lead.
The report revealed that many of the tested multivitamins contain exceeded levels of ingredients such as niacin - which can cause skin tingling and flushing - and zinc, responsible for immune deficiency and anemia when overused.
Other multivitamins were found to contain high levels of vitamin A and folic acid when compared to limits considered tolerable by the Institute of Medicine.
Excess consumption of these products is linked with various health conditions. In the short term, too much vitamin A may cause nausea and blurred vision, while osteoporosis and liver problems are frequently reported in the long-term.
Adding too much folic acid to men's multivitamins on the other hand may increase the risk of prostate cancer in the consumers.
ConsumerLab.com, a private company based in White Plains, New York, performs independent evaluations of health- and nutrition- related products. The company is not owned by nor has a financial interest in any companies that make, distribute or sell consumer products.

If you are not getting enough nutrients from your diet, a multivitamin may help. But you need to be sure that it provides the right ingredients for YOU. Just as important, it needs be made right -- containing what it claims, without contaminants. After all, you may be taking it for years.
Unfortunately, in its latest review of multivitamins, ConsumerLab.com found defects in over 30% of the multis that it recently selected for testing. And many products exceeded tolerable upper limits for certain vitamins or minerals. Specific problems included:
* Three of four popular children's multivitamins were too high in vitamin A.
* One men's multivitamin was contaminated with lead and another had too much folic acid -- associated with more than doubling the risk of prostate cancer.
* One general multivitamin had only 50% of its folic acid. Another was missing 30% of its calcium.
* A senior's, a prenatal, and a women's multivitamin each had only 44.1%, 44.3%, and 66.1%, respectively, of their vitamin A.
* A vitamin water had 15 times its stated amount of folic acid, so drinking one bottle would exceed the tolerable limit for adults; less than half a bottle would put children over the limit.
* A pet multivitamin was contaminated with lead and another had only 46% of its vitamin A and 54.7% of its calcium.

So are Gummy Vites okay or not?!
Seriously, good article. I was taking a Quest (Birmingham, UK) multivitamin, but now I take Pharmaton (and I suspicious of anything with "pharma" in its name).

The problem is, tptb have gone to some trouble over the past few years to try to discredit vitamin & mineral supplements, because they haven't wanted us to have the benefits of them - prior of course to snatching any effective ones from us altogether once Codex is here.
So now, I don't know what purported 'facts' are really deliberate disinformation.

Maybe these so-called "health officials" should test pharmaceuticals and vaccinations and tell us what they find in those. Anyone want to hold their breathe waiting to find out?
Better yet, maybe they could test the food and meat the industrialized farms and mutant meat growers are putting out. I don't see that happening anytime soon either.
And most people do not know that the main ingredients used in the production of most pharmaceutical drugs are manufactured in China. I don't think I need to elaborate on the implications of that.

There is one sure way to ensure that you and your descendents receive all the vitamins you need and that is to establish a family food garden where you can eat just as you breath totally fresh and loving food.

I don't think vitamins in these tablet/capsule forms do much to improve your well being. I've been taking them for a few years now and I haven't seen an improvement in my health and I still get flu/cold virus each year, it's all a con. I've wasted a lot of money on this crap, and from now on will just up my fruit and vegetable in take, even though I eat a lot of them already.
They pump food full of chemical crap that effects your health these days, so why not tablet/capsule vitamins!
Yeah I used to take a multi vitamin tab for a long time, but as Morjo found, I also didn't notice any difference either way to be honest. My health didn't feel either better or worse. Just the same as usual. Which makes you wonder what people are expecting. I'm not even sure what I expected, really.
Sudden bursts of energy? It didn't 'add' any, nor take any away, and although I rarely get ill, I don't think I had any 'less' cases of colds either.
I think that people are just sold on them making your life 'healthy' somehow.
You see some even browsing health food shops as if they're thinking - "Oo, I reckon a bit more zinc might do me some good". Unless someone is suffering from genuine malnutrition, then the wisdom of the body excretes about 98% of a vitamin tablet apparently. It won't keep what it doesn't need. My father told me this from the word go, but I was on some kind of 'health' thing.
The more I looked into it, the only time you'd need to take one of those is if you're travelling in seriously 3rd world countries for a long time or your body has an existing imbalance that can't be rectified itself. Anyone else, living in a modern western nation is just wasting their money (as I did for a few years) if they are eating a generally ok diet of the right food combinations.

"“Every seed you plant contains within itself an enormous amount of information about the Universe. Through the help of these data the seed knows the exact time, down to the millisecond, when it is to come alive, grow – what juices it is to take from the Earth, how to make use of the rays of the celestial bodies – the Sun, Moon and stars, what it is to grow into, what fruit to bring forth. These fruits are designed to sustain Man’s life. More powerfully and effectively than any manufactured drugs of the present or future, these fruits are capable of counteracting and withstanding any disease of the human body. But to this end the seed must know about the human condition. So that during the maturation process it can satiate its fruit with the right correlation of substances to heal a specific individual of his disease, if indeed he has it or is prone to it.”
Anastasia describes a process to ‘imbue’ or ‘load’ information into a seed and communicate more consciously with plants;
*** IMPORTANT NOTE
Please make sure to use only organic seeds. Store bought commercial varieties can be sprayed with poisons and make you sick. Buy the highest quality heirloom, organic varieties from reputable sources or better yet, produce the seeds yourself.
The following steps should be taken with a variety of plant species in the garden-plot. It is not necessary to cultivate more than a few of each kind of plant.
“Before planting, put into your mouth one or more little seeds, hold them in your mouth, under the tongue, for at least nine minutes.
http://www.anastasiasgarden.com/healinggardens_files/image040.jpg
http://www.anastasiasgarden.com/healinggardens_files/image041.jpg
“Then place the seed between the palms of your hands and hold it there for about thirty seconds. During this time it is important that you be standing barefoot on the spot of earth where you will later be planting it.
http://www.anastasiasgarden.com/healinggardens_files/image042.jpg
http://www.anastasiasgarden.com/healinggardens_files/image043.jpg
“Open your hands, and carefully raise the seed which you are holding to your mouth. Then blow on it lightly, warming it with your breath, and the wee little seed will know everything that is within you.
“Then you need to hold it with your hands open another thirty seconds, presenting the seed to the celestial bodies. And the seed will determine the moment of its awakening. The planets will all help it! And will give the sprouts the light they need to produce fruit especially for you.
http://www.anastasiasgarden.com/healinggardens_files/image044.jpg"
“After that you may plant the seed in the ground. In no case should you water it right off, so as not to wash away the saliva which is now covering it, along with other information about you that the seed will take in. It can be watered three days after planting.
“The planting must be done on days appropriate to each vegetable (people already know this, from the lunar calendar). In the absence of watering, a premature planting is not as harmful as an overdue planting.
“It is not a good idea to pull up all the weeds growing in the vicinity of the sprouts. At least one of each kind should be left in place. The weeds can be cut back…”
According to Anastasia, the seed is able to take in information about the person who plants it, and then as it grows its fruit it receives from the universe the optimum blend of energies needed for a given Man. The weeds serve another function and should not be rid of completely. Some weeds protect the plant from disease and others give the plant supplemental information. During the time the plants are growing it is crucial to communicate – and meditate with the plant at least once, but preferably more. It is also desirable to meditate and touch the plants during a full moon.
Anastasia says that plants cultivated from seeds germinated and planted in this manner and eaten by the person who has grown them is capable of curing him of “any diseases of the flesh whatsoever but also of significantly retarding the aging process, rescuing him from harmful habits, tremendously increasing his mental abilities and giving him a sense of inner peace.”
The fruits must be eaten no later than three days after harvesting to be most effective.
When the plants are grown like this they will be different from other plants of the same species. They will not only differ in taste but will also be different in their makeup and the substances they contain.
When planting seedlings (trees) it is important to use ones fingers and bare toes to soften the dirt where planting. This is because toxic substances are excreted through the bottoms of the feet containing information about a person and any diseases they suffer from. The seedlings take in this information, which in turn transmits it to the fruit.
Anastasia recommends walking around the garden plot and wherever the seedlings are planted barefoot from time to time.
When asked what kind of plants to cultivate she says to plant the same kind of things that are found in most gardens. One can plant raspberries, currants, gooseberries, cucumbers, tomatoes, wild strawberries, any kind of apple tree, sweet and sour cherries and flowers. It doesn’t matter how many plants there are or how big the garden plot is.
She says there are a few “definites” that need to be planted in order to have a “full energy micro-climate”. There should be at least one sunflower plant and about two square meters of cereal grains such as rye or wheat (for making special bread later), and an “island” of wild growing herbs that grow there naturally and already. If there are no wild plants and weeds growing in the area then you can bring some turf in from the nearby forest.
When asked about planting these (what she called) ‘definites’ (plants that ‘definitely’ need to be in the garden) she responded that it is not just the variety of plants that is important, but also how they are planted. They need to be planted in such a way that they can take in the information they need. The main thing is to infuse the garden with information about yourself. If this is done correctly then the plants will be much more effective at healing. She says that “nature really is not wild, it is just unfamiliar to you – there are a great many plants that can help us cure all – and I mean all – existing diseases. These plants have been designed for that purpose, but Man has lost, or almost lost, the ability to identify them”.
The “chief physician” is our own body. From the beginning it knows what plants and herbs should be used for healing and when they should be used. Our body knows how to eat, drink and breathe and is capable of preventing dis-ease even before any physical signs are present. Nothing can do this better than your own body, for it is your own personal physician given to you by God.
“If you make connections with the plants in your garden-plot, they will take care of you and cure you. They will make the right diagnoses all by themselves and prepare the most effective medicine especially designed for you.” (Anastasia – book one - pp 77-81)
Anastasia tells Vladimir that the society he is living in can learn a lot about communication with plants from the dachniks and their dacha plots. The dachas know every plant personally in their garden. They feel better and act kinder when they are in working in their gardens. They live longer and are healthier. It is the dachniks who can show us the path towards becoming aware of how destructive the technocratic path can be. (Anastasia – book one - pp 73)
Anastasia describes a morning routine where a person wakes up at sunrise, walks barefoot out to the garden and visit your plants. She says to be sure and touch them. They love human contact. This does not have to be done everyday, and not even at the same time, but try to do it as much as possible. It should be done as one feels moved to. One thing that is important is to be sure and not wash or shower before visiting the plants. The plants sense the fragrances of the substances emitted by a persons body through the pores of the skin during the night.
If the morning is warm then find a small grassy patch (very helpful to have nearby) and lie down and stretch out for a few minutes. If some bug or insect crawls on your body don’t chase it away. The bugs can open up the pores causing toxins to be expelled and healing to happen.
If there is a river, lake or pond nearby then wash yourself in it. Or pour water over yourself as you stand barefoot close to the plants and garden, or you can stand in between the beds if possible. It is a good idea to alternate places in the garden where you wash off with water. Do not dry off with a towel. Use your hands and shake the water from your body off onto the garden. After this a person can bathe or shower.
At nighttime it is good to wash your feet with pure water before going to bed. You can use some saltbrush plant or nettles or combine them together, but don’t use any soap or shampoo. Pour the water you have just washed with out on the plants. This will allow toxins to be removed through the pores of the feet and the water that is poured over the garden will give supplemental information to the plants. We must follow this routine as much as possible in order to give the environment a chance to help us heal. (Anastasia – book one - pp 86-87)""

TPTB and Big Pharma have been rubbishing Vitamin Supplements for decades now and the Vitamins you purchase in Holland & Barrett and Boots, Superdrug etc. are SYNTHETIC ...of course they won't do you any good!
In fact they are loaded with Aspartame and E numbers! Synthetic chemicals do not react well with the body and only organic Vitamins etc. will boost your health! Search specialists shops or become a member of dr rath health foundation.
Vitamins, Minerals, Amino-acids and Trace elements are ESSENTIAL to health and they work best in synergy.
For example; if you have Osteoporosis taking Calcium is useless because you need a synergy of several Vitamins etc... to replace the nutrients taken from your bones to make-up the defficiency your body found elsewhere! That is why someone developes Osteoporosis in the first place. Nutrient deficit.
A glass of milk contains 6 times more Calcium than your body needs. Pouring Calcium on weak bones is like acid rain.
The deception of Big Pharma is TOTAL - HRT will not cure/treat Osteoporosis either - but it will cause Heart problems thats for sure!

Two things I want to say about Vitamins/minerals.
1) Eating a healthy diet, raw diet, complete diet, etc. is no longer enough. Unless you are getting your food grown in soil that has had its trace elements and minerals restored every so often, your food is not uptaking what your body needs. That probably applies to 99% of the population. Also, the commercial farmers who dump NPK on their soils year after year in order to get stuff to grow (because the soil is so depleted to do otherwise would be futile) have over time killed all of the beneficial organisms (bacteria, nematodes, etc.) in their soil. These are required to break down nutrients into a form that the plants can uptake.
2) There are some very high quality vitamin companies, you just have to do your homework. The best form is to use a superfood powder made from a variety of organic plants and fruits. Personally, I like Living Fuel Super Berry.
There are also some antioxidants and oils out there that are scientifically proven to be beneficial. Some examples would be Tumeric, Resveratrol, and cruciferous extracts. To each his own I guess. I choose to take these things, and I believe they work.
Big agriculture and the food industry are not in business to keep us healthy. Anyone who trusts those industries to feed them well ... nuff said.

Most large supplement companies are owned by pharmaceutical companies, doen't that make you suspicious. The article below was written after the rumours that monsanto owned solgar were untrue but on researching it, it seemed it wasn't as untrue as it first appeared, and companies change their names. Most supplement companies if you trace who owns them will eventually take you too a pharmaceutical company. What makes me suspicious, is why the secrecy
http://vibrationalgaiarising.com/g/32957/links-between-pharmas-and-supplement-companies-.html
Also most supplements are synthetic not natural and then they are full of toxic exipients. http://vibrationalgaiarising.com/g/31905/warning-toxic-exipients-in-your-supplements.html
I'm sure some natural supplements do have their place if there is a deficiency but just supplementing will unbalance the body and cause further imbalances, isolated vitamins and minerals do not occur in nature

You got that right gilly. Some decades ago now, big pharma's big interest groups (in cahoots with the FDA) set out to demonise and regulate supplements right out of our reach of average citizens, to clear the way for 'their drugs' and 'their' profits.......and this is exactly what they are doing, because healthy people don't need their expensive poisons.
For years I have been subscribing to the literature most don't ever get to see, and I could show you literally HUNDREDS of properly done studies that clearly show the benefits of supplements, and I can tell you right now, those who supplement with high quality nutrients over the long term or use them in clinical situations to improve specific health issues, are generally healthier than their non-supplementing and prescription drug taking counterparts.
Just make sure the vitamins you take are high quality and natural sources are used rather than synthetic, and they are produced by a reputable manufacturer.
This requires some research, but the benefits are undeniable.

Yes, gilly & limelady, of course you are both correct ...I am biased as I work for the Dr Matthias Rath Health Foundation, but please read what he has to say about this "vitamin cartel" & "pharma-cartel"...
"By the turn of the century, the world's largest pharmaceutical and nutritional companies, including Hofmann-La Roche, BASF, Rhone-Poulenc, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), Takeda and other multinational corporations, had admitted to forming a so-called "vitamin-cartel" to conduct criminal price-fixing for vitamin raw materials. Hundreds of millions of people worldwide were defrauded for almost a decade and had to pay artifically high prices for vitamins and certain other essential nutrients. The U.S. Justice Department declared that this vitamin cartel was the largest cartel ever discovered and named it an "economical conspiracy".
Hoffmann-La Roche, BASF and the other cartel members agreed to pay more than One Billion Dollars in fines in the U.S. for committing these crimes.
While the audacity of these criminal practices and the magnitude of this consumer fraud made headlines around the world, no one asked the decisive question: Who or what triggered the formation of this global cartel?
Co-ordinated criminal activities of this nature just don't appear out of nowhere. They are the result of corporate greed, and the direct consequence of events that promised financial benefits for the criminal conspirators that far outweighed any risk of getting caught.
The background of this illegal vitamin cartel is the scientific breakthrough documented in this book [why animals don't get heart attacks ...but people do!] in relation to vitamins and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Already at the beginning of 1990, I had informed Hoffmann-La Roche about these discoveries. On June 2nd 1990, I sent a summary of the discovery that heart attacks and strokes are - like scurvy - the result of vitamin C deficiency to Professor Jurgen Drews, head of Hofmann-La Roche Research Worldwide and a member of its executive board.
Hofmann-La Roche is the world's leading manufacturer of vitamin C raw material. Hofmann-La Roche executives realized immediately that my discovery would boost their own international demand for vitamin C and create a multi-billion dollar market for it and other vitamins. In order to get further information from me, the executives of Hofmann-La Roche signed a confidentiality agreement and invited me to represent the new understanding of heart disease at their global headquarters in Basel, Switzerland.
However, Hofmann-La Roche decided not to promote this medical breakthrough, despite the fact that they acknowledged it as such. The reasons they gave to me in writing were that Hofmann-La Roche did not want to finance the dissemination of this understanding of heart disease for all their competitors, and they did not want to compete with other in-house pharmaceutical drug developments, such as cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Thus while they refused to promote this medical breakthrough, which could have saved millions of lives, this pharmaceutical company turned around and decided to conspire in the formation of a vitamin cartel in order to take advantage of the breakthrough. Hofmann-La Roche apparently invited BASF, Rhone-Poulenc, Takeda and other manufacturers of vitamin raw materials to engage in criminal price-fixing on a global level. The fraudulent profits these companies made from their criminal practices may have reached hundreds of billions of dollars over the years. Compared to that, the fines these companies had to pay were insignificant.
My correspondence with Hofmann-La Roche executives also proves the statements they and others made that the corporate executives did not know about these criminal activities were lies.
The opposite is true: These corporate executives not only knew about these crimes, they were the organizers. The executives responsible for these crimes should be prosecuted and held responsible for their actions."
"Each year, pharmaceutical companies make 500 billion dollars solely from worldwide sales of drugs.
The natural control of diseases will lead to the collapse of this industry.
In its struggle for survival, the pharmaceutical industry has formed a global "pharma-cartel", aiming to block the possibility of eradicating diseases by natural means.
By abusing the World Health Organization's "Codex Alimentarius Commission", the European Parliament and other national and international political institutions, the "pharma-cartel" pursues a worldwide ban on all information about the preventive and therapeutic health benefits of vitamins, minerals and other natural, non-patentable therapies."

Then don't buy a supplement from the cartel. It's that simple, and there are many out there. You just have to do some legwork. A good place to start would be:
Natural News reviews (http://www.naturalnews.com/Index-Reviews.html)
If you hunt around that site you'll find reviews of many products including who the owners are, what their philosophies are, and where they get their ingredients. Living Fuel, Boku Superfood, Sun Warrior, and Sprout Living are all high quality products that are discussed there, among many others.

Synthetics & Isolates are a class of Fraken-Foods right up there with GMO botanicals. This class of substances includes most supplement components. One example is B12, which is the substance from which DNA is synthesized. Some researchers have suggested a primary contributer to Cancer in people with no other predisposition may be eating B12 supplements, which produce DNA synthesized out of synthetic B12 which may devolve by replicative failure until systemic Cancer appears out of the blue. Another example is ascorbic acid, which is very different than Natural State Vitamin C. Eating ascorbic acid supplements and foods with hidden ascorbic acid used as a preservative is a primary contributer to rapid aging as ascorbic acid disrupts cellular oxygen metabolism.

Which is why we should only use whole food, non-isolated supplements. Of course, there are cases where one should use an isolated supplement such as for Potassium deficiency, but this still needs to be in a healthful form and not some synthetic chemical created in a lab. There is a lot of snake oil out there, but please, lets not throw the baby out with the bath water.
I am a firm believer in supplementation. Why? Because the corporate food and drug industries are working hard and deep into every night dreaming up new ways to make us sick and deficient. We don't have health care systems, we have disease care systems who's only motive is profit. That is today's reality, and supplementation is one of the few ways we have of fighting back, but it takes educating one's self on what is snake oil and what is not.

70% of supplements are owned by pharmacueticals so be very wary? even the so called natural ones. There are a handful I know to be truly natural, you can't even get them in the UK. They are all synthetic in the UK. Solgar were owned by pharmaceutical giant wyeth who then sold to NBTY, who also own Holland and Barratt
Quantum Rx
Harmonic Inner prizes and Pure synergy are the only natural ones I know of.
Green and Blacks organic fairtrade chocolate is owned by cadbury http://www.cadbury.com/ourbrands/featurebrands/Pages/GreenandBlacks2.aspx
Tom of Maines natural toothpaste is owned by Colgate Palmolive.

Or that Cadbury's owns organic fair trade chocolate green and blacks. http://www.cadbury.com/ourbrands/featurebrands/Pages/GreenandBlacks2.aspx

It is true that many of the "so called" health companies are now owned by the big corporate giants. Usually when this happens the quality of the original products fall because they are now masses produced to keep costs down (not to mention so that the big corps can cut corners as well as add fillers that are not good for our spiritual selves).
I used to like drinking Odwella juices way back when. Now they are owned by some big giant and I can taste a difference in the products now from before.

I take Methyl B12, which is the natural form.
Most docs use Hydroxy B12.
But in USA the form used is cyano B12 which releases a cyanide molecule which may well cause cancer.
So know your facts before making sweeping statements please

It wasn't my statement it was taken from the link I gave by someone who is considered a leading expert on the cutting edge of this stuff who's research has shown this, and who has done thousands of client consults, If you listen to the audios of clients consults on the website, it is clear he knows what he is talking about however I am open to him being wrong Perhaps you should read the link first.http://radicalhealth.com/raw-food-diet/guides/product-sources.html and listen to audios and do a little bit more independent research of real people and experiences and instead of reading nutritionally, pharmaceutically controlled studies based on selling a product before YOU make the sweeping nutritonally pharmacuetical based brainwashed statement. I am not clear about how methylcobalamin is made and why that is natural. I would appreciate it if you could explain fully how it is made before stating how natural it is, taking supplements in isolation is not natural, no animal does it and neither did humans for millions of years when they did live naturally. I know that some people do get B 12 deficiencies and feel they need supplements but it is possible to resolve them naturally as I have done or to use nano b plex from Quantum RX which is natural and fermented from yeast saccromyces cervisae, at least it is natural. After being a raw food vegan for over 20 years and not B 12 deficient, despite no supplement, I think I am pretty qualified by now to make a statement on this issue.
All supplements will imbalance you further long term eventually and cause other deficiencies and imbalances, supplementation is really just another form of trying to control symptoms like pharmaceuticals do, they were not even around 100 years ago, the human race would have died out before for lack of supplements if they were that essential. Best get back to living in harmony and balance with enviornment and the planet we live on, grow your own food which you can remineralise with rock dust and you shouldn't be deficient.
That is actually what the powers that be do not want, people to be independent and free of all this crap.
What I find truly shocking is that even on a david Icke forum many people are still completely unaware or even open minded (thankfully not everyone) of the degree to how things are controlled which shows there is very little hope. They already have control of the mainstream natural health market and although there a few businessess that are independent, they are seeking to shut them down and fine them and take them to court for selling good products ie novel food product and herbs. It is not simple it is very complex.

Also not too forget the toxic exipients and flowing agents in the supplements even the non pharma owned ones. They destroy T cells which is primary Immune function

The Truth about Vitamin Supplements
Check your vitamin labels. Do they contain Magnesium Stearate or Stearic Acid? Studies by the University of Texas Health Science Center and the East Carolina University School of Medicine reveal that these toxic excipients cause a rapid collapse of T-cell membrane function and cell death; therefore suppressing the immune system. (Immunology, 1990, Jul.)
It is estimated that 90% of the vitamin and mineral products consumed today contain stearates. Stearates are used as binders in tablets and in the processing of gelatin capsules. Consumers often take handfuls of capsules and tablets to get vitamins, minerals and other key nutrients from supplements that contain stearates, and instead, in reality, get a powerful immune suppressive treatment.
For more information on this topic and copies of the above-quoted studies as well as other studies and warnings concerning stearates, contact us at service@qnlabs.com.
QNL Quantum Rx nutritional supplements are 100% free of toxic excipients, including magnesium stearate or stearic acid.
“The public must be more aware of nutritional products that initially bring a good vitamin or mineral but hurt you in other ways.” (Dr. Eduardo Sanchez, Commissioner - Texas Department of Health, speaking before the Texas Strategic Health Partnership, University of Texas, Sept. 25, 2003)
Widespread Cheating
The FDA reports widespread cheating in the supplement industry.
At QN Labs we find that only careful testing of each batch and source of herbal ingredients will guarantee the most premium quality. Recently when the QNL Quantum Rx Nutrition laboratory tested one source of asparagus extract, we found 90% of it was hay! Just cheap hay! This supplier was trying to get our business, obviously, they did not!
Most retailers and distributors of vitamin supplements have no way to test their products to see if what is on the label is actually in the bottle. Therefore, they are not aware of the toxicity of the products they are selling and mistakenly claim 100% purity for their products.
Ask your retailers and distributors that are selling nutritional supplements to you to provide a written statement that guarantees their products are free of stearates, palmitates, stearic acid, FD&C food colors (recently banned by the FDA), “natural flavors” (which is just a fancy name for MSG, a known neurotoxin), polyethylene glycol, acetate, titanium dioxide, sucrose, and other toxic excipients and potentially harmful manufacturing additives. In fact, ask them for full label disclosure listing every component used to produce each product!
You are taking these supplements thinking that they are beneficial to your health. It is your responsibility to make sure that they are.
Toxic Ingredients
On every “health” and “nutritional” product, learn to read the label and ask the questions
Where are the plants grown?
Are they tested for irradiation?
If so, what method is used for testing?
Is each plant tested for heavy metals and chemical contamination?
If so, what method is used for testing?
Is each plant tested for pesticides?
If so, what method is used for testing?
What species is used?
What method is used for determining the species of plants?
(There are many species of every plant and herb. Each species has vastly different nutrient content, depending on where and how they are grown.)
What does the term “natural flavors” mean?
(Most juice products have this on their labels - the new name for MSG – Monosodium Glutamate – a known brain neurotoxin that kills brain cells.)
How is the product preserved?
Is it pasteurized?
(Destroys nutrient content) Does the product have toxic preservatives such as sodium benzoate, sorbic acid, or potassium sorbate?
If it is a tablet - how is it hardened and held together?
(Answer: glues, binders, heat and pressure which destroys nutrients)
If it is a capsule - Is it 100% vegetable fiber?
Rather than gelatin made from animal hooves)
Are any ingredients synthetic?
(Studies show synthetic vitamins degrade cells and shorten the user’s lifespan.)
Are any ingredients fractioned out of plants and herbs?
(Using harsh chemicals - Labels should list real plants and herbs, not isolated vitamins and minerals, such as “ascorbic acid” for real vitamin C.)
Any distributor of a nutritional product should be able to answer these questions.
“Excipients” in Vitamin Supplements
The International Pharmaceutical Council of the Americas states that “Excipients are substances other than the pharmacologically active ingredients which are included in the manufacturing process or are contained in a finished product. In many products, excipients make up the bulk of the total dosage form.”
Czap, AL, The Townsend Letter For Doctors and Patients, July 1999, Vol.192; pg.117-119
“Additives in supplements cause allergic reactions, impede absorption, and have undesirable physiological effects. In many cases, an ingredient carries a negative connotation, so the manufacturer uses instead, an euphemistically derived alternative (such as “glaze” or “natural vegetable coating” for shellac)

Magnesium Stearate (aka Stearic Acid): Poisonous Flowing Agents
Over 90% of the vitamin/mineral products consumed today contains magnesium stearate, also known as Stearic Acid.
“Stearic Acid inhibits T-cell dependent immune responses. Plasma membrane integrity is significantly impaired, leading to a loss of membrane potential and ultimately cell function and viability.”
Tebbey PW, Buttke TM, “Molecular Basis For The Immunosuppressive Action of Stearic Acid on T cells” (Immunology, 1990 Jul; 379-86)
“When cells were exposed to stearic acids and palmitic acids, there was a dramatic loss of cell viability after 24 hours. Cell death was induced by stearic and palmitic acid.”
PMID: 12562519 (PubMed) Ulloth, JE, Casiano CA, De Leon M. Department of Microbiology and Immunology, East Carolina University School of Medicine.
“T-helper cells become the target of stearic acid.”
PMID: 6333387 (PubMed)
“Stearic Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Calcium Stearate, Palmitate, and Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils are lubricants which enable manufacturing equipment to run more efficiently but inhibit eventual dissolution of the nutrient. Stearic acid may prevent absorption by individuals with compromised digestive systems. Magnesium stearate and stearic acid also present the problem that delivery of the active ingredient may be considerably further down the intestinal tract than the site originally intended. This may result in the nutrient being delivered away from its optimal absorption site. Not only can this impede absorption, in some cases it might be harmful to the liver.”
Czap, AL. Townsend Letter For Doctors and Patients, July 1999, Vol.192; Pg. 117-119.
“The addition of palmitate or stearate to cultured cells led to activation of a death program with a morphology resembling that of apoptosis. Palmitates and stearates caused cardiac and other types of cells to undergo programmed cell death.”

Sodium Benzoate: A Poisonous Preservative
Sodium Benzoate and Potassium Sorbate are used as preservatives in most of the liquid vitamin products sold in health food stores or by multi-level-marketing distributors. Usually these juice products have claims that they are the secret of peoples in a far away place who live to be 150 years old! These people did not live to be 150 drinking juices that have sodium benzoate in them!
What does a preservative do? It kills everything alive in the product so it can sit on a shelf in a warehouse or store for weeks or months without spoiling. If the preservative kills everything alive in the product, what do you think it does in your body?
First, a little history. Harvey W. Wiley, M.D., taught at Harvard in 1873, and Purdue after that. Dr. Wiley accepted the position of Chief Chemist in the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1882. His main job was to assist Congress in their earliest questions regarding the safety of chemical preservatives in foods. He became known as the “Father of the Pure Food and Drug Act” when it became law in 1906. That act led to the creation of today’s Food and Drug Administration. Dr. Wiley also oversaw the laboratories of Good Housekeeping Magazine where he established the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.
The important issues of the day were the use of bleached flour, saccharin and benzoate of soda (now known as sodium benzoate). In a letter addressed to President Coolidge he wrote regarding sodium benzoate: “The time has fully come for this monstrosity to disappear.”
The Food and Drug Act had already been watered down by politicians afraid to upset big business enterprises using sodium benzoate as a preservative. Dr. Wiley went on to write to the President: “It is the crowning ambition of my career, before I die, to see these illegal restrictions, which now make a prisoner of the Food Law, removed, and the Law restored to the functional activity which Congress prescribed.”
Dr. Wiley made it clear in his book, A History Of Crime Against The Food Law(1929), that sodium benzoate was a food additive that was indeed harmful to health. Sodium benzoate should have been outlawed as a preservative at that time, but it is still used today. Why? Because vigorous protests from those engaged in adulterating foods were made to the Secretary of Agriculture, and sodium benzoate was allowed to continue to be used as a preservative.
Today, the FDA has a list known as GRAS: Generally Recognized As Safe. The FDA allows the addition of hundreds of chemicals to our food. Since the whole purpose of adding a preservative to a food is to make it unfit for insects or mold to eat, what makes us believe it is okay for humans to eat it?
Especially the one preservative, sodium benzoate, which Dr. Wiley worked so hard to get outlawed.
After Dr. Wiley failed to get Congress to act. He finally gave a simple solution to the sodium benzoate problem: Don’t buy and use any food containing sodium benzoate. He suggested that we just read the label, and if it is a chemical, and you can’t pronounce it, do not buy it and eat it. He expected that this voting with our dollars would get additive-laden foods off the shelves of stores. But that has not happened, and now we have vitamin products being touted for your health that contain this poisonous chemical!
The Material Safety Data Sheet on sodium benzoate states:
Ingestion: If swallowed, call a physician immediately;
Induce vomiting.
Give oxygen or artificial respiration as needed.
The Chemical Analysis Data Sheet on sodium benzoate states:
Store away from food and beverages.
Yet today it is not kept away from food and beverages, it is found in most of them, including liquid vitamin supplements products that are supposed to “improve your health”. Take Dr. Wiley’s advice and read the labels before you and your family drink anything containing the poison of sodium benzoate.
Living Food Source vs. Non-Food Synthetics
By: Robert J. Thiel, Ph.D, N.M.D.,
The Truth About Vitamins In Supplements
For decades the “natural” health industry has been touting thousands of vitamin supplements. The truth is that most vitamins are made or processed with petroleum derivatives or hydrogenated sugars. Even though they are often called “natural”, most vitamins sold in health food stores are isolated substances which are crystalline in structure. Vitamins naturally in food are not crystalline and never isolated. Vitamins found in any real food are chemically and structurally different from those commonly found in “natural vitamin formulas”. Since they are different, medical practitioners should consider non-food vitamins (often called “natural” or USP or pharmaceutical grade) as vitamin imitations and not actually vitamins.
Synthetic vitamins were developed because they cost less. Manufacturers often call synthetic vitamins “vegetarian”, not because they are from plants, but because they are not from animals. (Food source vitamins will list the names of the plants the vitamins are derived from on the label.)
Food source vitamins are smaller in size for better bioavailability, in chemical forms that the body recognizes, and the absorption of vitamins relates not only to the nature of the nutrients, but also their interaction with each other.
Even before there were electron microscopes, Dr. Royal Lee knew that food vitamins were superior to synthetics. Dr. Lee, like Dr. Bernard Jensen, was opposed to the use of isolated, synthetic nutrients. Dr. Lee specifically wrote,
“The synthetic product is always a simple chemical substance, while the pure food is a complex mixture of related and similar materials. The commercial promoters of cheap imitation products spend enough money to stop the leaking out of this information.”
Take Vitamin B for example. The body has a specific liver transport for the type of vitamin B found in food. It does not have this for the synthetic vitamin B forms. Therefore, no amount of synthetic vitamin B can ever equal food vitamin B. In fact, the body tries to rid itself of synthetic vitamin B as quickly as possible.
Certain forms of vitamin B synthetics have been shown to have almost no vitamin activity!
Look for vitamins that are 100% FOOD. The term “natural” does not mean pure food. Some companies try to confuse the consumer by using the term “food based”. “Food Based” vitamins are almost always USP vitamins mixed with a small amount of food that does not change the chemical form of the vitamin.
The truth is that only supplements composed of 100% FOOD can be counted on to perform the necessary functions in the body

Anything but a "health" store that sells crap, visit the "organics" store for organic (non toxic) natural vitamins.

You haven't answered my question as you are so obviously the expert on how methycobalmin is produced and how hydroxycobalamin is produced?
I also have son brain damaged by MMR so I've got plenty of experience thanks on self help? what is your story?
I will look through the thread you posted. Thankyou

Wow, lots said on this thread. I definitely think it's important to find a good multi made by a reputable company. I have a naturopath that I will typically speak with before purchasing a new supplement to get her take on the quality of it. Every day I take a good women's multi (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/product_info.php?products_id=2822) and a probiotic, and I have noticed such an improvement in my overall healthy and a huge decrease in the number of colds and viruses I get throughout the year.
