I used to be so super healthy, I was a vegitarian from the age of 6 till i was 13 and i just couldn't resist morrisons own hot and spicey chicken wings. For about 4 mounths i started eating loads of awful salty sugary food because It allowed me to eat at fast food places. I put on loads of weight, lost it and became quite poorleyand didn't eat anything for about a year and a half and then binge of junk food.
Then i started eating junk food again all the time, smoking too. And Ever since I've always been poorley with something or other.
I just get craving all the time for junk food, even though I try my best to cook and eat healthy, try have as many fruit and veg as possable, but sometimes it's not possable, espeshaly if I'm out, or busy doing course work I can prepare a meal from scratch.
I'd deffinetly say I'm addicted to junk food, but i'm not fat, just really unhealthy. I also noticed that when I started eating meat again I started having nightmares, feeling negative, stopped having a connection with god, because i remember as child I was a big believer in some kind of god thing.

So i know in my self that it's just not good, but I just can't seem to stop myself.

Anyone help me please? Anyone have any sujestions?

I want to be a vegiterian again, it seemed so easy before...

Send a PM to rationcinator, he's online now. If anyone can knock you into line on the meat eating / junk foods thing, he's your man. You'll probably never touch the stuff again after a few words from him ;)

I'm seventeen, a vegetarian... but I smoke, so it would feel wrong for me to give you advice. If there's one thing I've learned, stay away from aspartame!

Read Omnivore's Dilemma and you will stop eating a lot of bad things.

I think of it as a moral issue and that is how I am able to keep my willpower up. Don't just think about what the bad food is doing to you, but think about who the profits are going to and what they are doing to everyone and the planet you live on. By giving those companies profits then you are condoning whatever it is that they are doing.

I can thoroughly recommend this book though: Slim For Life by Jason Vale.

I want to be a vegiterian again, it seemed so easy before...Completely stop eating junk. If you want to go vegetarian, cut out meat right off, go with fish for a while, then cut that out.
If you really can't do it, then at some point you will feel so terrible and something will eventually happen which leads you to no other choice but to change.

If you still can't do it, then ask yourself this: Could you kill what's on your plate? (And I mean kill something right now, not in any hard circumstance)

When do we ever crave for fruit, veggies, water, nuts or bread? Never. It's always things like candy, chocolate, meat, additives that people crave.
When was the last time you heard someone saying ''I so badly need an apple, or I'll go crazy''..?

It's always possible to eat healthier food, but you need to put some effort in it.

Make realisitic changes in stages, that you can stick to. Starting by cutting out the most unhealthy first.

Swapping McD's for a sandwich shop is a good start!

Provided you get sufficient exercise, your body will process anything, and it won't be a problem.

My diet is one that people would say is pretty bad, but I am in good general health because I stay reasonably active.

The only other suggestion I can make is that you get addicted to cooking and experimentation....or find a would-be chef, perhaps a live-in one so you can be waited on every night ;) :D

take a ,look around, take stock why are you eating shit food?
ask yourself this question:)
if you really wanted to be a veggie if it meant alot to you you would be one. iam by no means a veggie, hence the name but i do like to know wher my meat has come from.(or has been:D)
the only way too change is if you do it yourself, basically getting off your arse and making the change. i know at the moment convience is key to most people and and it's difficult but only you can change yourself . theres no quick fix:)

hi flossy, :)

I know how you feel I used to believe I had the same problem as you but after I read this book and I realized that I can live upon minimum calories a day. Now the book I have no idea how it is called in english but it's written by paul mckenna and if you google him I am sure you will find it. Also you are probably emotionally eating what you need to do before you start to binge eat( believe me I know it's hard but you have to try ;) ) really think about it are you hungry? what will you look like if you eat this? what will you feel like after eating this? also try to eat slowly and while you are eating think only about what you are eating. You will realize that your junk food addiction is emotional, for the most part. And I agree with eyepod about the meat thing, you will be fine just do not panic.
Also exercise is very important. :)

Good luck

I want to be a vegiterian again, it seemed so easy before...

I get junk food cravings esp chocolate, cake and ice cream cravings, usually before my period.

I think you just have to keep making the effort, every time you don't give in to your craving and you have something healthy instead you are reinforcing the habit of healthy eating.

I have recently been a lot more active and have been exercising regulalry again (which makes me hungry) and I wanted to eat crap earlier. I know I feel better when I eat healthy food, so I stuffed myself with veggies until I was full and didn't have room for junk, I do that quite a lot when I want to eat cakes, chocolate and other shite.

As for meat, maybe your body needed something that was in meat. It sounds like you are giving yourself a hard time about things, chill ;)

I read the Gospel of Peace :

http://www.scribd.com/doc/14000448/Essene-Gospels-and-Texts-by-EDMOND-SZEKELY

it has put me off junk food somewhat. I'm not mega religious but it seemed to have some truth in it with regards to how the body should be treated as a temple for the spirit. It makes sense we have multiple levels of being if one is unbalanced it's going to affect how the others operate. If you want your soul mind and emotional self balanced it is better to eat well. Meat has strange hormones in it and chemicals it never used to have from antibiotics to rubbish the animals are fed. I recently went vegetarian (3 weeks) and already feel the benefits. My spiritual vibration feels higher. It must be the hormones in meat but when I shaved my legs before the next day I had stubble and now it takes a week for it to appear. Your moods will be more stable and better if you don't eat rubbish. Sugary things set you on a rollercoaster of sugar high and low which can make you depressed and other things with chemical rot in just aren't going to help. It also helps the planet because what goes in has to come back out afterwards and is then affecting the earth. If you are ridding your body of toxic rot it pollutes the world as well. Your sex drive and satisfaction will also be increased overall after adopting a healthier lifestyle. It takes a month or two of hard work to get on the track you want and thereafter it becomes habitual and you wont miss as much or at all things you had before so you only need stay strong for that long. At lot of junk food eating is a bad habit.

Well, the body has a limited need for food. Anything other than eating for hunger/lack of energy is food that's feeding the mind. And we all know how the minds hunger is insatiable. Now I too easily fall victim to food addiction, but I understand that it's because the mind needs content to keep itself occupied. Other examples are pornography, sex, clothes, video games and so on. When you give into mental addiction, you are reinforcing the minds grip on you. Or specifically, you're identifying with the mind more and more and you're giving your power away to it.

Mental addiction is a spiritual problem. The more identified you are with the mind, the more you desire things. The less you use your mind and the more aware you are, your consciousness starts taking the place of the mind, and consciousness doesn't desire nor fear.

Excellent point.

Material addictions are a symptom of giving power to our fitful states of mind. Then again, isn't that a main lesson in most spiritual doctrines?

Eating when you need not eat, spending sexual energy when there is no giving of it to creation etc. Loads of 'sins' that we can list which are all addictions to this material reality.

Our addiction to meat eating and our craving of material things like food etc. is a reminder that 'the devil' has plenty of hooks to keep us stuck in this material dimension.

To stop eating things just because they taste good is one less hook.

Nisargadatta was asked what is sin, and he replied "all that binds you." In other words, anything that we are interested in in the material world.

Eating and sex release dopamine, which is the same chemical that is released when you take cocaine. Dopamine is the "reward" chemical.

http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/bb/neuro/neuro05/web1/isiddiqui.html

This partly explains why people become addicted to food. Long term, over stimulation of the dopamine receptors leads to desensitization, making addictions harder to stop and you require more of whatever your addicted to to achieve the same high.

So dopamine is the chemical that is linked to addictions and drives. Also, we are "programmed" to seek out high fat/high energy food, it all goes back to the time when our ancestors didn't know when the next meal would be. Everytime you sit in front of the tv with your junkfood, think of it as your inner caveman going back to his cave and sitting in front of the fire with eating his bit of meat (hence the feel good dopmaine release driving us to eat/survive):D

I don't think there is an easy way to stop stop eating junk food, you just have to be mindful of the fact that you are no longer a caveman and there is an abundance of food so we no longer need this survival mechanism.

One really easy thing to do is to add superfoods into your diet. (Just look it up on the internet). Stick to it and your craving for junk food will fall away by itself.
You can eat some raw chocolate it will also stop the craving. Gives you the high, but not the low.

Exercise, mild exercise at first....go for walks...dance....put aside half a day, take out your best chunes, buy some mineral water and fruit juice and dance, great way to sweat off weight but you enjoy yourself too, that's the main thing...try meditating regularly, visualise yourself in optimum health- how would that feel? Experience that in your image-ination. Visualise yourself enjoying healthy food.

At a guess, I'd say it would be best for you to go gradually, not completely cold turkey (I'll get ma coat...)

Try having green smoothies in the morning, for brekkie, that should help to encourage you back to the good stuff. Simply blend up some spinach, avo, banana, cucumber, apple, water and maybe some super food additives such as spirulina, turmeric, raw coconut oil, hemp milk or oil and some ground flax seeds and water...etc..your body is craving the good stuff !

I know how easy it is to take steps back with regards to diet, but eventually your body and higher self will give you hints and nudges that it wants the change back to healthier foods.

Good luck !

I do strear well clear of evil mcdonnalds and other big chains, however, I still seem to find away to eat crap.

Might try a fast, but I don't know if it wise just to stop intake all together. I thought maybe if I fasted I'd get all the toxins out of my body and stop getting craving and start again eatin just raw fruit and vedge.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Fasting is completely safe. I have done a 9 day fast on just water. But, that's all I could do since I was skiny when I started. It is very good for you. Try doing a single day of fasting, and if you manage to avoid your minds temptation for food, you will find that you will lose interest in food by the end of the day. You start to regain control. I would drink water and make herbal tea throughout the day.

You need to lose the cravings. Your system is acidic, you need to become alkaline.

One way of doing this is to start juicing raw fruits and vegetables. You can get so much more into your body via drinking as opposed to eating.

You need the live enzymes, start juicing now!

Definately agree with this, a juice maker is one of the best investments anyone can make, I love juice, smoothies, all sorts. You know exactly whats going into your body, you can even prepare or grow the fruit yourself, it's also a really tasty replacement for sugary snacks.

I am not vegetarian, but I enjoy a large variety of food. Try eating new foods, using new spices, or seasoning on the food that is healthy in your diet. I eat alot of fish and chicken at home, and if I do say so myself, after being a huge KFC addict for quite some years, I can do a better job when I home cook, and I know exactly what i'm eating.

:) Good luck

STOP EATING JUNK FOOD..... :D

There ya go, job done.

:D

i know what you mean though, i used to eat lots of crap, and it is so hard to stop isn't it.

i used to love burger king, though about three years ago i lost my sense of smell, and with it my sense of tatse was very subdued, so i stopped going into BK, because everything i ate there just tasted of cardboard.

My taste has been coming back, and so has my sense of smell. We often go to pizza express or frankie and bennies etc, and i opt for the sald and a smaller pizza, pref a healthier one too, and it helps.

i think to break the habit, you have to eat small meals throughout the day, rather than one junk food meal or similar, a healthy breakfast, fruit jiuce and a yogourt are ideal for me, and then a few hours later a salad or a nice sandwich, freshly made.

Eating several small meals that are good for you is much better than eating one nasty one.

Obvious really, i know, but sometimes it is about getting into the habit of doing it :-)

First, stop watching TV. I find it almost impossible to stop eating junk and unhealthy food when you're under attack of commercials that are telling you to eat them.
Second, as mentioned above start fasting and juicing.
You just need to resist the period of adaptation. It might take a week, 2 weeks, a month-depend on the person, but after that you'll feel great.

I lost craving few years ago in only 7 days. 6 days I spent on fruits, and on 7th day I was on water only.
Craving is only a sign that your body is heavily intoxicated.

Surprising? Not. I've had zero nightmares in the last 2 years, and lucid dreams have only increased.
Completely stop eating junk.

Actually if a person substitutes that apple for the candy enough and for long enough they will crave that apple... I tend to crave fruit when my sugar is low and the certain vegies I use salt on instead of chips.

Heart attack is usually a good reminder to stop eating junk food, ................................ who knows ? maybe it happens soon.

I have been a vegetarian since I could cook for myself at age 11.
Before that I would spit it out or hide it under the mash.
But I was the worst veggie ever since I hated vegetables.....:D

I would eat hardly anything, not have much protein and push my food to one side of the plate.
I did have a sweet tooth though, but my parents never bought much sweet foods.
I also used to faint every morning in school Assembly and often go anemic.
I was underweight and my periods would be every 6 months.

Then in my 20's I found Quorn and started liking vegetables and fruit. I could buy any food I wanted and my sweet tooth often meant I didn't eat much but did always have room for a cake for afters.
I knew that I should love tofu and Linda McCartney meals but I have always found them rank....anyone else fee the same?
My weight became healthy and with multivitamins and minerals and protein in my diet I started having regular periods.

Then in my late 30's (now) after 2 kids, I have found that I need to alter my eating habits again. I have half a stone that I want to lose but it won't budge yet I haven't started eating more than before....
I'm not overweight but I feel too heavy for my own comfort level if you know what I mean.

So I can relate. I think that as I approch 40 I need to exercise more because I used to dance around the house and move more than I noticed...I saw some home videos and noticed this. I have to make an effort to move more on top of my usual exercises as I just don't feel like dancing and leaping around the house or rollerskating anymore....:D

I also need to change my diet because I'm clearing my plate now, it may be vegetarian food but I used to eat half what was on the plate, I now have the ability to love food wheras I used to see eating as a chore.

My sweet tooth has also got sweeter, now I eat afters after every meal and can eat half a packet of biscuits with a cup of tea at night.

I know what to do though - I did it after having my babies, it worked for me then and I have to do it again if I want to go down a few pounds.

I have to eat smaller portions, from a side plate, you can't overload a side plate and it makes you eat less.
Then I banish all deserts unless they are fruit. Now and again I can let myself have a cake or biscuits but only if it has fruit in it and put it out, don't take the whole packet with you....
And exercise more - walking did the trick better than all the aerobics at losing the weight, but I also have started weights because everything is starting to sag....:(

That's it! We all know what to do but the little voice in our head says 'go on, you deserve some chocolate, it makes you happy'

It's not true though - it just makes us fat.

So as I've grown up as a vegetarian I'vegone from hating food to eating healthier, to loving food and then to start loving it too much......

Before things get out of hand I'm going to get back to the weight I was before, only now its going to take a lot more effort physically and mentally at a time when I have less of both.....:D

Still, if I don't I'll end up fat and 40 and that's not where I want to go....
so we all know what it takes - willpower.

I've never eaten a McDonaldss burger - I gave up the veggie meal when a worker told me they are cooked in meat fat.....

But someone in work has had a McDonalds burger on their desk for 5 weeks now for an experiment and so far it hasn't gone off - not even the bread.....if that doesn't put you off them......

Good luck, we can do it - put that chocolate down!....:)

close your mouth.

no, serious, buy a mcdonalds meal and hang it up somewhere in your living room, next to a morbidly fat person portrait.

that'll help.

you're welcome:cool:

Are you shure? I think I would eat it at night, when I search for something to eat in a doze :D

Try eating soaked chia seeds. These guys are packed with nutrition and tend to fill you up. Also, oleic acid foods will curb your appetite (sunflower seeds -have vit. D too, & olive oil).

Start sungazing it will increase you pineal gland and raise your vibration levels. With this over time, you should lose a lot of cravings.

You could be filled with parasites, we all have them, but you may want to reduce the number. (Using a zapper about an hour a day helps, taking clove oil, black walnut oil, and nutmeg will help destroy those suckers!). Garlic and cayenne pepper will help too.

The juicer is a good idea, but it will make you feel like you need carbs. This is where you need to find good carbs that are healthy so you don't fall prey to junk food. (I like halawi dates and raw honey for sweet tooth). For salt cravings, I eat organic popcorn with himalayan salt, kelp, cayenne and olive oil. Avocados, bananas, watermelon are good too.

Taking vit. D3 can help. It keeps your mood up so it prevents your from eating just to lift your mood.

Exercise and outdoor deep breathing can feed your cells with good oxygen and it becomes an additional nutrient outlet other than eating. The sunshine is like this too, providing nutrients and stimulating glands and other miraculous things.
