View Full Version : I've been poisoned by my sofa
For 2 years I've been sitting on one of those toxic sofas. I've been really suffering from skin rashes and really bad itchy eyelids, OH also has some strange rashes. Been to doctors even had blood tests and hospital appointments.
So the tv was on in the background (I know I hate tv but OH likes it) and it was on watchdog who said about these sofa. Cant believe that they didnt recall them.
"The sofas, which were manufactured in China, were packed with sachets of an anti-mould chemical called dimethyl-fumarate to stop them from going mouldy during storage in humid conditions.
Commonly known as DMF, the toxic, fine white powder has been used by some manufacturers to protect leather goods like furniture and shoes from mould. Even very small amounts can be harmful."
F'ing great.........the sofa is being picked up this weekend.
I've spoken to a lawyer who has about 4000 other people and says I should put a claim in.
I'm so pleased that at last I've got to the bottom of my skin rashes.

I've been poisoned by my sofa
When I read this title I was certain it was going to be a steppewar thread.
:p
lots of folks in my area have been affected by those toxic sofa's it was in my local newspaper, some of the photos were awful. one lady had the whole of her back covered in red sores and blisters, it actually looked like she had been scolded with boiling water all over her back. it was down to argos and land of leather if i remember correctly that were selling those toxic sofa's. the folks do have a case ongoing for compensation although has land of leather has gone into receivership?? if so they wont be getting a penny will they nice and convenient really to go bust just before they are due for a massive payout.

Really please can you give me a description, where you bought it, what it looks like and what its made out of.
I only started getting ecxma, skin rashes, really, really itchy eyes since i moved into my current flat. i get really itchy eye lids whilst watchin tv late at night, again only at my flat, thought it was something to do with being tired n getting old.
Do you know if they use this stuff with other materials?
