It's also coming back in the story about Moses where he heals his people..
It could be said it's actually a very spiritual symbol, snake(matter ''crawling'' down) overcome by eagle(spirit ''flying'' up)

Seems to come back in many places and cultures. The mayans got the same tale, when they saw an eagle killing the snake, that's where they started civilisation.

So it's quite a positive thing, too bad most of the health companies are plain materialistic. They have no right to use such a symbol.

This was originally the symbol for the Anunnaki-Sirian creator god, EA, or EN.KI (who has become an Archetype), was the chief of the magicians, "the one who knows," and infamous for being the serpent of the Garden of Eden who created lifeforms in test tubes half a million years ago with his half-sister Ninharsag, at the suggestion of his son, Marduk, to create humans to be the workers for the gods. (The symbol is also based upon the winged globe for the planet Nibiru, the symbol of the royal Anunnaki family.)

It is also said it's symbolic of our 2-string DNA.

betha some more explanation:

This plasma 'cloudbank' or 'world mountain' may be seen today in the stupas of India or the 'omphalos' of Delphi and other sacred locations in antiquity. The plasma dome at the horizon likely rose up thousands of miles. Eventually the giant aurora or vaporous plasma might have covered perhaps 30 degrees of the circumference of the Earth. It would have been visible from 10,000 miles away -- nearly half the circumference of the Earth.

Omphalos:

http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/5783/domphalosdelphi.jpg (http://img10.imageshack.us/my.php?image=domphalosdelphi.jpg)

Depictions of the 'world navel' (at various locations in antiquity) each represented the center of the Earth with a dome shaped rock, at times with an entwined snake, representing a twisted Birkeland plasma stream. Each was considered to have been attached -- at one time -- to a placenta in the sky with a twisted umbilical cord.

In Greek, the word omphalos means "navel" (compare the name of Queen Omphale). According to the ancient Greeks, Zeus sent out two eagles to fly across the world to meet at its center, the "navel" of the world. Omphalos - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

After reading a rather disconcerting blog about the Royal Marsden, I, half-jokingly, looked up its logo. You'd be hard pushed to find one that managed to fit in more (apparent) symbolism, though (owl, unicorn, pair of lightning bolts, serpent, torch/trident?, stag, grouse(?), arches(?), some kind of foliage(?), crab(?)).

I don't know how to put pictures up, but it'd interesting if anyone could offere any insights (especially if some of the latter images are significant in any way, or are recognised in symbolism):

Edited to add: The pictures come up themselves. Amazing.
