Hi folks,
Just thought you might like to see the artwork from this 1630 bible I bought for £3. I not a Christian or religious, but have never owned such an old thing.

whatis the meaning of the hebrew writing at the top ?
As far as I can tell it means YAHWEH the original creators name

Apparently adonai is used as the name of the lord, as pronouncing YHWH is considered sinful. The hebrew in the old bible matches the top line in that table.
Cheers!

Somehow i think a tresure like this won't be 3 pounds unless that book is either a fake or the version is just someone's intrepretation of it.
Stranger things have happened.
hey, I know!!
When you run out of toilet paper, you know what you can do?
Just don't use the newer bibles. They tend to smear it around more that wipe it off. Believe me, (LOL pun! ) I have used many.

Thank you for sharing - that is amazing. Since the King James was translated in 1611, this had to be a relatively "new" work for its time.
Curious, but it appears to be a Phoenix behind the scribe in the bottom left corner. Possibly an eagle, but very strangely portrayed considering how accurate so much of the rest of the artwork is. Also of interest - not sure what it means - the scribes on the right - one is left handed while the other is right handed. Interesting too, of all the images and verses that could have been referenced, Psalms 42:1 was chosen. Of course it is a nice verse, that has a nice meaning behind it, but curious why if you were going to fill an iconic picture that includes, Adam and Eve, the manger scene, King David, Moses, Abraham sacrificing Issac , the resurrection and the last supper, that the artist would choose such an obscure and seemingly meaningless verse to fill a center block. Even the calf laying beside the scribes along with the young lion beside the other scribes is quite profound in reference to Isaiah 11:6-16 in that it is quite apocalyptic in nature, and talking about the second coming of Jesus. Quite bizarre that the picture of a deer drinking would make its way on to a picture of such profound Christian Imagery. I might have to do some research into this.
Thanks again for sharing and making the image so large - lots of interesting detail to be seen - including the paths across the earth with the ship.
If you have any other images that you wouldn't mind sharing, I would love to see them.

It looks like a classic phoenix but an Eagle would make more sense as Eagle stands are in alot of Anglican churchs as it is the sign of St.John the Apostle.
