But only those sent to 'early' offenders apparently. ''Hard-core'' licence fee evaders should still get the gestapo treatment. :DShit, I'm quaking in my boots..

Something else the article says that I was not aware of is that the BBC tenders out its licence fee enforcement to several different companies...so the company that sends the nasty letters out isn't the same one that organises the doorstep visits etc. No wonder they're so inconsistent.

And the licence fee is going up in the forthcoming budget.:rolleyes:Hence the BBC trust's 'sweetener' comment no doubt..

One company that deals with a lot of TV licence "debtors" is Iqor, 32/33 Winckley Square, Preston, Lancs. (I used to be an internal auditor there, briefly).

They send letters, have a telephone collections dept, & have a door collections dept also.

I cancelled my direct debit to TV licensing last friday. I am going to wait for my letter and stick a note inside explaining why I dont want their trash TV any more and I will write 'return to sender' on the envelope, why waste a stamp?

When i was in university halls, we all got letters asking why our rooms did not have tv licence fees paid for them (I thought your parents having paid the fee back home counted?) How could they know anyway who was watching tv? It was most likely a default letter.

Needless to say I didnt have a tv.

And what happens when you tell the collectors at the door you dont have money and simply shut it?

They have no power - tell them you're a relative, not the householder.

it's the bailiff's you have to watch for - at one time, I'd have said, just tell them the posessions they want to take are not yours, ,you're looking after them for a relative, but, I know they've had, or are getting their powers increased, so I'm not sure how the land lies with them.

Why not cost them a stamp?
After all you are returning their property to them i.e. junk mail!

Cost them a quid each time I believe! :D

Reminiscing...
Long long ago, in a galaxy far, far away,
the Labour Party had a massive donation
from an arms manufacturer,
so lots of people sent useful things to the
Labour Party Member Services via freepost
to help them spend it wisely,
e.g. slate, scrap metal, poo and IIRC somebody sent an old mattress!
The cost was by weight, so the heavier the better.

The Beeb obviously use a few.

''The BBC contracts out the collection and enforcement of the licence fee to a group of companies that use the trading name TV Licensing. The majority of the administrative side of licence fee collection, such as sending letters, is contracted to Capita Business Services.''

;)The more the merrier as far as I'm concerned...means less communication between the different quangos therefore less efficiency with enforcement..

Yes, the BBC will pit the different firms against each other, giving the biggest share of debts to the most successful agency on a regular basis. Iqor were getting the lions share, but that was 18 mnths back.

Always annoys me when some BBC goon goes on the TV/radio defending the licence fee as "terrific value for money."

Yey!! Glad its been noted in the papaer...the only way the majority will realise is if its in the newspaper!! :D

Even my Mum said 'oooh i saw something in the paper about what you were saying about tv licencing' and showed me the article... she's starting to realise that my 'outlandish' claims regarding the nwo agenda etc are actually holding water now!! :D
