Do you think in a way it's a metaphor for our lives, i.e. we come here with a reason, we have to figure it out and then by fulfilling that purpose we can move on (reincarnation implied)? We all have guides as well, a bit like Al and the computer Ziggy.

yes I have to agree, that in some way we are all 'putting things right where they once went wrong and hoping each leap, would be the leap home'

Absolutely, we all come here with reason and the fun part is how quickly you realize your purpose within every incarnation. You know how the character Sam spends like 50% of the episode working out what he has to do and the rest trying to do it. Al is the Ego (trying to keep Sam alive any way he can, and many times is wrong) and Ziggy is the mind behind Al (the weighing of the pros and cons and giving a percentage answer), the unknown reason for jumping is the representation of the Divine choice of where to go and what needs fixing, the choice always becomes clear just before the next leap.

Well that's how I see it, it was a great show :D
