I think i've got the flu or possibly a sinus infection. I'm in need of some quick natural remedies, so would really appreciate it if you know of any.:)

Hi Lostwonderer,

I have the same...thought I had a sinus-infection, my 'misery'
started saturday, so I called my gp today (if you don't go to work here, you need your gp to back you up, as if you're commiting a crime) and he said it is the flu...

I eat lemons every day with some honey for the vitamin C, but because of my extremely sore throat, that is too sour now. I eat two oranges and two kiwi's instead.
I found something the other day, about a natural antibiotic called
Citrosept (it's international I think) which is made from grapefruit-seed.

This is their site if you're in the UK:
http://citrosept.co.uk/home_fr.php

I haven't tried it myself yet.

And:
http://www.holisticonline.com/Remedies/Flu/cold_herbal-remedies-for-cold.htm

On this site there are many herbal remedies for the flu (lots of advice too)
I use echinacea myself (though it works as a diuretic for me,
which can be annoying at night! but it works)

Get well soon, I'm going back to bed now....:o

I have a sinus problem since last week, being a singer, this sucks. Either pollen is high, or there's crap in the sky because my eyes hurt too.

Sinus-problems are terrible. Ten years ago, after a wisdom-tooth operation,
my problems started.

I bought a neti-pot recently and I've tried it. It's scary at first, but you get
used to the technique. I don't use it now I have this flu and/or infection, because I can't bring my head down, it hurts too much under my eyes.

Blowing my nose too hard has caused me many problems, they told me to 'inhale' it instead (you want to get rid of it, so that's hard sometimes)

Inhaling eucalyptus-oil from a bowl of steaming water can also help.

Yep it sure is a total pain. I've been sneezing like crazy, along with having watery eyes every bloody minute. I gave the salt water thing a try a couple of hours ago, it fucking hurts, but i do feel abit better. :D And thank you for the links everyone!

I keep saying colloidal silver but people either won't believe it or don't trust it. To each his own. I havn't been sick in the three years I've been taking it.

I experimented with taking vitamin D supplements this year. Usually I get colds in the winter, but this year I had none, I felt really pretty good all winter. (The information came from Dr. Mercola's website www.mercola.com.) I took vitamin D3 which is a form apparently more absorbable by the body. Anyway, I ran out of vitamin D about a month ago, and did'nt buy anymore because I thought Spring is on its way, I'll get more sunshine. Last week I got a cold. I was being a bit optimistic about getting enough sunshine, as I live in England and its only March...

Just a thought that might help someone . Here's a link to one of Mercola's articles on vitamin D and colds/flu:

Vitamin D3 is from animals. Vitamin D2 is not, thus it is a much better form to take. D2 is not as potent as D3 but this is not a problem when a higher dose of D2 is taken (1000 to 2000 IU per day is ideal).

Mercola is a snake oil merchant who cannot be trusted. He mixes a little good info with a lot of bad info. I stay clear of that disgrace.

For a cold/flu:

Don't eat anything. Drink freshly made juice. If you can get maitake (tablets, tincture) then take some of that. Echinacea tincture is effective also.

Colds and flu develop as a result of toxicity in the body and an acidic condition (the body produces mucus to fight acid. Microbes thrive in this mucus, and eventually spread throughout the body. They cannot survive in an unencumbered and alkalinized body). Most likely this is due to your diet. Look into the raw diet of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. On this diet it is very rare to develop colds and flu - very rare to develop any illness or disease, in actuality.

I just looked up source of vitamin d3 and it seems to come from sheeps wool.
As for Dr. Mercola, I don't necessarily go by everything he would say either, but I like to try things for myself.
My mother is a nutritionist and does'nt think Mercola is always right either, but anyway, it sort of made sense to me that at the times when we don't get a lot of sunshine, especially in the UK, we seem to get more colds. Obviously we add poor diet, stress and all the rest and its a brilliant environment for the flu/ cold to flourish. I agree with you about the raw food by the way. Animals don't have saucepans!
