Saying that the recession continues to deepen, the U.S. Federal Reserve announced Wednesday that it would pump an extra $1 trillion into the economy by buying mortgage-backed securities and long-term Treasury issues.

So anyone with financial expertise?

What exactly are we allowing private bankers to buy now?

1,000,000,000,000 = 1Trillion

$1 million dollars is a stack of one thousand dollar bills stacked 4 inches high.
$1 billion dollars is a stack of one thousand dollar bills stackd 358 feet high.
$1 trillion dollars is a stack of one thousand dollar bill stacked 68 miles high

What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

All this talk about "stimulus packages" and "bailouts"...

A billion dollars...

A hundred billion dollars...

Eight hundred billion dollars...

One TRILLION dollars...

What does that look like? I mean, these various numbers are tossed around like so many doggie treats, so I thought I'd take Google Sketchup out for a test drive and try to get a sense of what exactly a trillion dollars looks like.

We'll start with a $100 dollar bill. Currently the largest U.S. denomination in general circulation. Most everyone has seen them, slighty fewer have owned them. Guaranteed to make friends wherever they go.
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/bill.jpg

A packet of one hundred $100 bills is less than 1/2" thick and contains $10,000. Fits in your pocket easily and is more than enough for week or two of shamefully decadent fun.
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/packet.jpg

Believe it or not, this next little pile is $1 million dollars (100 packets of $10,000). You could stuff that into a grocery bag and walk around with it.
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pile.jpg

While a measly $1 million looked a little unimpressive, $100 million is a little more respectable. It fits neatly on a standard pallet...
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet.jpg

And $1 BILLION dollars... now we're really getting somewhere...
http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet_x_10.jpg

Next we'll look at ONE TRILLION dollars. This is that number we've been hearing so much about. What is a trillion dollars? Well, it's a million million. It's a thousand billion. It's a one followed by 12 zeros.

You ready for this?

It's pretty surprising.

Go ahead...

Scroll down...

http://waronyou.com/forums/Smileys/default/jaw-dropping.gif

Ladies and gentlemen... I give you $1 trillion dollars...

http://waronyou.com/forums/Smileys/default/wtf.gif

(And notice those pallets are double stacked.)

http://www.pagetutor.com/trillion/pallet_x_10000.jpg

So the next time you hear someone toss around the phrase "trillion dollars"... that's what they're talking about.

Now this is Freaking Greed http://waronyou.com/forums/Smileys/default/hissyfit.gif ....... Right! http://waronyou.com/forums/Smileys/default/PUKE.gif

LOL- just read that first bit of the artcle where they say...

Having already reduced the key interest rate it controls nearly to zero, the central bank has increasingly turned to alternatives like buying securities as a way of getting more dollars into the economy, a tactic that amounts to creating vast new sums of money out of thin air. But the moves on Wednesday were its biggest yet, almost doubling all of the Fed's measures in the last year

In effect, the central bank has been lending money to a wider and wider array of borrowers, and it has financed that lending by using its authority to create new money at will.

So the International Herald Tribune doesnt think this is worthy of exposing large scale?:rolleyes:

All I can picture is Dr Evil.......

Anywho

This has got me to thinking. People, so selfish and hell bent on money and fame, buy lottery tickets in the hope of solving all of their problems, in most cases it actually makes them worse.

Why not take a lottery system and use the millions generated, EVERY WEEK to improve the country. EVERY LAST PENNY spent on NHS, ROADS, SCHOOLS. Every penny accounted for, accounts made public, receipts uploaded online for people to see.

Why be so selfish to better the lives of me, me, me. When this concept could be put in place to better the WORLD for EVERYONE.

I know, I know, I know the illuminati banking Elite wont have it and would invent any laws under the sun to prevent it, but once we get these c***s out, it would be a great system to introduce.

It's not the same as TAX as the people would have a say in how it is spent.

Thats a really nice idea.:) I think they'd say they do though ...'it goes on lottery grants' lol- like £1,000 to a school for kids with learning difficulties (pathetic) or a minibus for an elderly home (pathetic),

how bout like you say they put half a mill into a Renal Unit for a hospital with no renal unit, or toward resurfacing roads in a deprived area?

Its a joke...Camelot are the biggest bunch of see-you-next-tuesdays there ever was...connected heavily with common purpose according to Brian Gerrish!!

You're spot on mate. Camelot are laced with CP 'graduates'. All laying in the under growth like the snakes that they are, ready to take over key positions of power when the 'post democratic society' kicks in. I say to them 'what the f**k are you waiting for!' Democracy is already dead.

The lottery idea would be spent on big projects, not a few grand to a charity here and there. It would work because the money would be spent on the regional areas that generated the most cash per person over 16.

That way you wont have 10,000 people in Fife being 80% of their population compared with 1 million people in London with that only being 45% and calling that fair. This is a simplistic explanation, but it would be FAIR.

We can but dream eh. I often wonder what the country will be like when get it back.

The world should concentrate soley on supporting itself geographically before branching out to help other countries. Once stability is in place, we can form a proper Peoples Planetary Community.

http://www.fpx.de/fp/Fun/Googolplex/

If you take all the dollars all over the world, not just in the US, but also in other countries using dollars, I'm not sure if the number of dollars would even have reached one Gogoolplex. Or, not even all the money in the world, for that matter...

Well here's another trillion, in case you are running short, happy spending.:)

Now back to me printing presses...another day, another dollar...er I mean trillion dollars.

Have we gone mad or what....

And I see that the magic bullet, is seeking investors to help out in the refinancing plan. Is this shaping up to stockmarket investors and bankers, buying back assets at a couple of cents on the dollar, with taxpayers bailout money.

If we allow ourselves to get f.....ed.....we deserve to get f...ed.

well the NYSE loves the trillion dollar idea.

will it work? will we ever really know if it does or doesn't? where does the trillion actually come from? why a trillion? all questions we don't know answers to. kept in the dark by our elected officials as usual.
