If you get Microsoft Flight Simulator X computer game( http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulatorx/ ), the latest of the Flight Sim series, you’ll see a mission on the list called “Secret Shuttle”. In it you get to fly a Janet plane from McCarran Airport in Las Vegas to Area 51:eek:. The Janet planes are the secret unmarked airliners which fly people to and from the secret base (Background: http://www.dreamlandresort.com/info/janet.html ). Your co-pilot does all the radio work and checklists etc so all you have to do is fly in the captain’s role. He also instructs you on where to go and what to do. At one point he warns you not to talk about anything you see at the base and to not tell anyone you’ve flown the route! There’s no official flight plan and the aircraft has to navigate by visual flight rules.
I’ve only flown the route once, but when I did I heard the co-pilot talking to someone else about “UAV’s”, and he warned me to watch out for UAV’s:cool:. “UAV” is an aviation term for UFO! I’m going to fly it again and again and apparently on some flights your plane will eventually be buzzed by a flying saucer!

Hi Hagbard
Gotta disagree with you over your interpretation of UAV.
A UAV is an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle or drone as they used to be called. Basically a remote controlled aircraft owned and run by the armed forces be it Navy, Air Force or Army even the police are getting in on the act nowadays.
They can be small or fairly large..jet,prop or helicopters.it is quite frightenening really the scope of these UAVs and the things they may be used for in the future.
This looks like the future of Aerial warfare...no pilots just a bloke sitting in a bunker with a live feed video stream and a joystick!!!
Warfare completely dehumanised and debased to the level of a video game!!
Any way check these cuppla links out to see what I mean

and an article about tiny UAVs

Awight, Metatron. Thanks for the links. I thought the U stood for "unknown" but obviously in this case it stands for "unmanned":o. However the term "UAV" has been used to mean a UFO according to Timothy Good's new book.
What's more, after doing the flight 5 times I finally saw one! I tried to take a screen shot, but I wasn't quick enough; it appeared ahead of me on final approach and flew off.:( There are some odd aircraft parked outside the hanger on Flight Sim's Area 51. There's one that looks like a pinecone or tortoise, but its obviously a man-made experimental model. I'll try to get some screen shots of that.

Thanks for the reply Hagbard
As for getting a screen shot can't you select a record mode before your flight?
If you record the flight then you will be able to go back over your journey and get the screenshots that way..I also think you can view the flight from different angles too.
I know this is an option on the IL46 flight sim so I am assuming it will be there somewhere on Microsoft Flight simX.
You may have a point now i come to think about it...unknown could easily be substituted for unmanned. Plus its the kind of acronym military types would use as it gives them an easy get out clause for any radio chatter that gets listened into by us civilian types!!

I don't know if the airport is easy to infiltrate, but maybe someone can jump over those fences, plant a camera on the gears of the plane and just wait till it lands at Area 51,should make some nice images :D

I'll see if I can do a recorded flight, Metatron. I should have some screenshots of the pinecone aircraft below this post soon. I saw the "UAV" again and it was definitely a saucer-shaped vehicle, non-aerofoil lifted, probably "not local";):D
Air traffic controlers do use a lot of strange terminology and weird acronyms. This may well be because they know some people with radio scanners do eavesdrop on their communications. The Project Blue Book term "UFO" is now too well-known to be used if you want to keep the subject confidential. It's possible that the term "UAV" which, as you say, means an Unammed Arieal Vehicle" could also be used as code for a UFO. The pilots and controllers will know which it is which from the context while the anorak-clad geek with the scanner will be none the wiser.:D
BTW: Hope you enjoyed David Griffin's lecture.:) Sorry I missed it. If I hadn't got Probe to go to I'd have attended myself.

Strange things, aren't they? They have no livery and have a separate sealed terminal at the airport.
It makes sense to fly people in and out of a secret base actually. Taking them in by road or rail would be much less secure; far easier for a stowaway to sneak into the boot or slip under a seat.

If nobody has tried that yet then I imagine it will be impossible. Tempting idea though.:D

The pinecone-shaped aircraft. Must be the Aurora or latest secret stealth warplane.
 I must keep reminding myself it's not the real Area 51!

Yes and that they're 'don't exist' makes it very intriguing :)
Some episodes back in UFO hunters they hired one of the top apartments at hotel tropicana which is known as the best (& only) spot to get a peak of the janet planes. At the same time the rest of the team were located at Tikaboo Peak (Only location where enthusiast can actually see the base) with a killer camera and they could clearly confirm it was the same planes.
Not that this is anything new but a very cool episode it was:)

I've not seen that one, but I'll check it out. I love the UFO Hunters. Thanks:)
