Brew your own, there are all kinds of starter kits that are quite cheap so you can learn the process. I am thinking of clubbing together with a few people and having a go so it really won't cost alot.

Yeah i just heard this on the radio....i heard an MP (probably a drinker) saying maybe the medical guy who suggested it should stick to medical issues rather than politics and that we shouldnt punish the majority for the minority's shortfalls (ie; alcohol induced violence/anti-social behaviour) yet they still go and hike up the tax for ciggs and tobacco for 'health reasons'. I dont neccessarily agree they should hike up the price but at the same time they have such double standards, they've let food prices soar, fuel prices soar, everything has gone up ridiculously in price ... yet we know that anyway dont we?!! lol!! He said at a time when the recession is in full swing people wouldnt have any 'treats' at all.... but is alcohol the way to 'treat yourself'? In this country life's been made so sh*t that all we can look forward to at the end of 40hrs labour is getting off our faces! Oh they really look after us dont they?!

(But yeah....make your own....although i can see the homebrew kits being taxed or banned) Find the recipes!

Won't happen. Apart from causing Labour to 100% lose then next election instead of 90% cheap alcohol keeps the population under control.

Like allways the only way to reverse this will be for everyone in the country to boycott Alchohol untill the price is handed back to the market.

Alot of people in this world demonise acohol. As long as you drink in moderation such as anything like that drugs for eg.

The thing is alcohol isn't a chemical or anything thats added into beer. It's produced naturally in the process.

It will when Codex comes into full power. They aim to control everything that we put in our bodies.

Until such time as they are sticky-beaking over your shoulder though, home-made goosberry & elderflower wine is unbelievably good, & cheap to make - especially if you plant a goosberry bush in your garden.

I'd be really vigilant regarding anything you can get in the wild (such as elderflowers). Years ago, my dad found a big patch of (ordinary culinary)mushrooms growing on some grassland near where we lived, & we'd been eating them for a good while, before he happened to find the council spraying them one day. He asked what they were spraying, & they said paraquat.

They'll be into every last thing we eat & drink, if they get their own way.

You can't beat a good eldertree - berries & flowers.

The mushroom thing was donkey's years ago - I think my dad (who wasn't known for his patience, tact & diplomacy) went berserk with the council chaps for what they were doing. It was a shock to him to discover how close we came to being poisoned.

In America in the Wild West, they virtually wiped out all the Buffalo. They say that people were just shooting them willy-nilly, and that it was all by accident that they were wiped out. It wouldnt surprise me if the PTB back then shot 'em all so that people couldnt eat and live for free.

End to cheap alcohol

Clearly the government is playing a very dangerous game here, whether they aware of it or not. People's nerves are being prodded in recent weeks on a variety of issues, and it was only a few days ago that the whole "Chocolate Affair" became a headline topic in the news. Are they deliberately trying to rub salt into the wounds or something? Because I reckon that if they do things like this in such quick succession they're playing with fire. Personally this alcohol thing doesn't really effect me because I hardly ever drink it anyway. But the solution they're proposing is absuuuuuurdly illogical. Punishing an entire nation for the reckless behaviour of some. Of course this is nothing new I suppose. Seek out a Problem-Reaction-Solution, and find a way to tax people to the eyeballs at the same time.

It's what these tossers do as a matter of course. What did annoy me was one of their 'professionals' was on an interview saying it has been proven that (in so many words) screwing people on the price of alcohol leads to less problems. Boolllloooocks. I've been to Russia and seen what happens when certain people can't buy alcohol due to the price but still want to bludgeon themselves into oblivion. All they then do is buy dangerous (understatement) Vodka from underground cartels made in sheds using toxic chemicals to save costs, and more often than not has an extremely dangerous alcohol content and even blinds people or destroys their liver. Labour is going to see more cases of that amongst the poorer population who still want to drink, rather than solve a damn thing. Or, as one commenter on the BBC Have you say said, "People will simply turn to cheap drugs instead. Particularly youngsters". Once again the government doesn't think and tries to appear like it can solve things but ignoring the roots of a problem . It goes crusading against the symptoms and doesn't look at the root cause of why so many wish to dull themselves into a stupor, because it's something the government doesn't want to face. Instead, tax them tax them tax them and hope it all goes away. Bloody morons !

I use a 30 bottle Young's 7 day wine kit. It cost's £20 from Wilkinsons and tastes very nice, far superior to cheap supermarket plonk.

Including the price of the sugar it works out at about 85 pence per 750ml bottle.

to be blunt and to the point it wont make an iota of difference - although I dont drink now I know people who still do - they raised the prices on cigs such a lot and lo and behold not as big a percentage as they would have liked to have seen stopped smoking - HAH lol - I have to applaud an earlier post on this thread homebrewing is very easy once you get all the kit you can have elderberry wine (lots of those about) elderflower, slo gin, nettle wine - all from yer garden or the countryside :)

Yes they have been priming us for this one for a while now.

Just last week there were 'scientific' study stories featured in the press about alcohol consumption causing increased risks of prostate cancer in men and ovarian/cervical cancer in women.

Broon and the goons would probably be better off if they just allowed unfettered access to cheap alcohol, it masks their real intentions and makes us all to bleary eyed to see what they are up to. I suspect this could be some kind of way of Broon plastering over the cracks in his budget caused by all his 'bailouts'.

IT would not surprise me in the least if they make homebrewing illeagal very soon. Still in the meantime lets all get home brewing, pretty soon their won't be any pubs left to go to.;)

God yes, nettle-wine. My old-man could make wine from a pair of old socks.
My mates and I thought we were drinkers, until we took my dad and his mates on with the home-brew. Bodies everywhere.

We've become far too reliant on "them" making our booze for us.

Nothing will happen to the prices, the government are just trying to make people even more pro-alcohol by threatening to take away their favourite toy, creating the "rebellious-kid" type mentality. Not only does it sedate you and make you stupid, it also has the added benefit of drastically decreasing testosterone levels (fact), leading to a nation of docile, effeminated, beer-chugging cyborgs.

Mine's a Stella though.

Yes indeed, I have been saying it for a longtime, they will introduce taxes on how much we breath a day and if you are athlete you get higher tax rates.

They will calculate on average, calculating how many breaths or even force people to carry some sort of digital meter and you will be either taxed monthly or yearly or whatever.

I know people might laugh at this, and they probably believe it's far feteched, but how many things we thought were far fetched and now we live them?

If we don't make a stop to it right now, they will be taxing the dead.

Listen to this idiot

Sir Liam Donaldson called for a minimum price of 50p per unit of alcohol to be introduced, saying the UK has a drinking problem and tough action is needed to tackle it.

He said research shows that cheap alcohol and ready availability are key factors behind the increase in drinking and associated issues such as crime and violence.

The Government's Chief Medical Officer.

Notice he is a Gov chief medical officer ;)

here's the link for a full story

http://latestnews.virginmedia.com/news/uk/2009/03/16/dont_punish_moderate_drinkers_pm

They'll never stop, unless we stop them, there's never ever enough money for them, even if you unload a truck of money every morning, they will ask for more.

Sometime they have more money they can ever spend if they lived 10 lives, but yet they still greedy.

And we are sheeple, we moan, complain like kids but we do nothing to change that, some idiots are even pro taxation, they still believe it's for the good of the nation.

When are they going to understand?

I am not for alcohol, just the same I am not for smoking, but this has nothing to do with our health, it has to do with control and more taxation.

This guy couldn't give a s*** about us, our children, as a matter of fact the more people die the better it is for them.

They just need enough people to enslave and tax.

Sorry, but not everything the government do is inspired by Beelzebub, some things might actually do us a favour. If the sheeple of this world are ever going to wake up, they need to move away from the dependancy on negative stimulants, such as booze and drugs, which just lower your vibration, not heighten it.

Spot on who elsie...Fermented wine and hops is very ancient, as most people know, but it has been turned into something for the slave worker ants to look forward to at the end of their slave shifts for the illuminati..now more and more are waking up and realising this stuff HAS and CONTINUES to be used to dumb people down, to keep them in lazy, enslavement mode...
