South African men are 'raping women to cure them of being lesbians'
Lesbians living in South Africa are being raped by men who believe it will 'cure' them of their sexual orientation, a report has revealed.
Women are reporting a rising tide of brutal homophobic attacks and murders and the widespread use of 'corrective' rape as a form of punishment.
The report, commissioned by international NGO ActionAid, called for South Africa's criminal justice system to recognise the rapes as hate crimes as police are reportedly failing to take action over the spiralling violence.

Horrific crimes against lesbians in South Africa are reportedly going unrecognised by the state and unpunished by the legal system

Eudy Simelane died after being gang-raped, beaten and stabbed 25 times
The extent of the brutality became clear when Eudy Simelane, former star of South Africa's national female football squad, became one of the victims last April.
Simelane, one of the first women to live openly as a lesbian and an equality rights campaigner, was gang-raped and beaten before being stabbed to death 25 times in the face, chest and legs.
Eudy Simelane
Eudy Simelane died after being gang-raped, beaten and stabbed 25 times
Triangle, a gay rights organisation, said it deals with up to 10 new cases of 'corrective rape' every week.
Support groups claim an increasingly macho political environment led to inaction over attacks.
A statement released by South Africa's national prosecuting authority said: 'While hate crimes – especially of a sexual nature – are rife, it is not something that the South African government has prioritised as a specific project.'
Human rights and equality campaigners are hoping the reaction to Simelane's death and the trial of the three men accused of her rape and murder will help put an end to the attacks.
Laura Turquet, ActionAid’s women’s rights coordinator, said: 'So-called "corrective" rape is yet another grotesque manifestation of violence against women, the most widespread human rights violation in the world today.
'These crimes continue unabated and with impunity, while governments simply turn a blind eye.'
This story is not something new and this happens across the whole world diaspora everyday, the raping of lesbian women to cure them of what?
Another phenomena that goes unreported in the media and society is the raping of men (gay or straight) - now society has already made it clear that men cannot be raped. Which we all know is not true!!
So you see what a homophobic attitude can lead you to do? This and much more!

Maybe curing them of any lingering doubts about their lack of sexual interest in men?

it's more to do with the men being insecure about their own sexuality or self worth.

Maybe curing them of any lingering doubts about their lack of sexual interest in men?
So you condone and justify this act? Or you just whipped up an answer?
So answer this:
Would you rape a WomBman just because she's lesbian and you strongly feel that your dick can cure her?
No let me rephrase that question and get abit personal and this is not to offend you.
Would you rape your own mother, sister, aunt, cousin or any other female blood relative just to get rid of lesbianism?

I find it difficult to believe that they really think their actions will "cure" lesbianism - they may use that as some really illogical and pathetic excuse for their vile activities, but surely, even they can't believe that that's what the result of defiling and violating someone in this brutal, ugly waywould be?
What they're doing is sick beyond belief, but the more frightening aspect, is the authorities' largely turning a blind eye to it, which in my view, is pretty much the same as endorsing it.
Once again, tptb encourage an immoral, twisted reality.

The people who carry out these brutal attacks are clearly looking for some way to justify their actions, if it wasn't curing woman of lesbianism, then it would be some equally flimsy excuse.

Well, perhaps it was this post of yours...Maybe curing them of any lingering doubts about their lack of sexual interest in men?
Because of the statement's lack of 'they do it because in their minds' context, on its own, it can give the impression that you abhor the idea of sapphic desire and you therefore agree with their intent.
Unfortunately, many posters on forums around the net fail to apply their statements correctly, they fail to affix it to context, leaving their meaning open to mis-interpretation. Did Honey_Beez misinterpret your meaning?
Let us not forget, that not only did they 'cure' Simelane of her lesbianism, but also of her life, cruelly and barbarically. We are always coming down to mindset, and the want to rationalize cruelty, sexual satiation, oppression and suppression, genocide and extermination...'I/we did it because...'
We all have a mindset on how the world should be, but there are those whom take the opportunity through the grab of wealth and power, intelligence, physical strength, etc, and justify their acts from these stances to themselves, and often cannot comprehend why others do not think the same way.
Simelane was a very courageous lady, and met with a fate that delivered upon her everything she was campaigning against. Women are not the chattel of the male to do with as the male pleases. Yet, they are many many males out there that treat others (both male and female) not with intelligence and respect, but with dominance for control...they bully to get what they want.
I don't give a shit what any rationale a man has to treat a woman disrespectfully, if I see it, I'm going to put him straight, or one of us is going to die in the argument. I don't care if they are gay or straight, no person, male or female has the right to seek dominance over another. Period!

The psychological motive for rape is primarily the satisfaction of the aggressive desire to dominate the victim. Biological reasons and the need to procreate can be somewhat eliminated in this example, therefore illustrating an expression of unequal power relations between men and women, motivated by fear and inadequacy.

Good post :)
it would be more appropriate for the headline not to generalise
i'm a man, and i don't rape.
The headline was not to generalise, it is however men who commited the acts. Now anyone who is capable of common sense would know that there are good men who do not commit such acts. But one thing you must remember, my lecturer once told me that everyone is capable of being a murderer, raper etc, all it it takes is just a spark to ignite it.
We unfortunately live in a very sick world.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To clarify something else, I was at first reluctent to post anything from the Daily Mail but I think this was just to open up some people to this reality. This is currently happening in most parts of Afrika and also other parts of the world.
I can tell you gruesome stories of how lesbian and gays are treated but I'd perfer not to as it does not benefit anyone and can leave you with a sick psyche if you can't handle it.
I think this article should also open up a new dimension of reality - the rape of men, unfortunately and as hard as it is to believe this does happen.
We need to be aware of these things so that we are better prepared to handle them if we or anyone else walks into this sick dimension, we can talk about Reptilians, NWO etc everyday but we forget that we are living in a sick world regardless of how positive you manifest your own reality.
I honestly do wonder what the homophobes on this site have to say about this.

I'm curious how you define "homophobe."
I completely abhor homo-sexual behavior,
but I love being around gays generally (as long as they don't "come on" to me). They tend to be colourful, intelligent and fun to be with.
Am I a "homophobe"?

This is the unfortunate reality that some men in Afrika are so sick, most of them hear it not from the spiritual healers as many people claim but actually from Government Officials and the Sangomas, Are you familiar with Jacob Zuma?

You a fag-hag judging by your post :p
A homosphobe is more than likely inclined to having supressed homosexual feelings, not being able to handle them and feeling guilty and because of how society brainwashed people into thinking it is an abomination they manifest anger, hate, jealousy and an aggressive attire because of the shame surrounding it so they lash out at those that do present themselves with certain gay traits.
Homo-negative is someone who abhors any homosexual act he she is however not going to lash out at a gay person. He/she is accepting to a degree but draws a line.
I find that men and women who are content and comfortable with thier man and womanhood do not show any signs of phobia or negativity towards anything homosexual.
Now coming to bold letters in your post:
(as long as they don't "come on" to me)
If you are comfortable with your sexuality and man/womanhood you would not say such a thing ;)

I like non-violence, but if attacked the only thing you can do is push back. This seems to be driven by the religious establishment in SA, than anything else see . In any war that happens in Africa the men do not have any moral standing to forcibly rape women. This is an excuse used to rape young women and children. Nothing can moralize the forcible rape of women and children, nothing.

Raping them to "cure" them of lesbianism is sadistic and ridiculous and would have the opposite effect. It would drive them further away from men instead of towards them.

Its not all about sex tho,,i think people misunderstand the difference between been gay/lesbion and having sex with someone of the same gender. "curing" someone of there sexuality is a stupid idea as there is nothing wrong in the first place.we are no different to hetrosexual people (besides the sex thing obvs) but when love becomes just sex it becomes a pointless excuse for a relationship imo.

There is no limit to the abuse or 'badness' that a human is capable of.
Women in Africa need to be taught self defense classes en masse. Start educating the men to watch out for the women. You can't trust a man with his own wife and daughter in rural Africa, and that's the unfortunate truth. Neighbors need to look out for neighbors.

At a guess I'd say this sort of thing has it's roots in religion. Wherever religion is present there's someone using some violence, torture, humiliation etc. to "cure" someone of some terrible moral crime. Africa has had one foot in the grave ever since the first Bible landed on the ground.

This is true,
but that does not mean that religion is the cause.
From what I can see, religion is an excuse rather than a cause.
