Hi all, MASSIVE freeman supporter after the ridiculous year i've had, please help before it kills me!
April 2008 I went to A&E with severe joint pains. They gave me painkillers and crutches and sent me home. Then, still crippled, my joints in the other foot went a few weeks later as well, as I live on my own and familys quite far away I had to call 999 as I couldnt move. They pumped me full of painkillers and sent me home again.
After about a month I could barely hobble on crutches I decided I should claim benefits to help out as I couldnt work. Around this time I was told by my GP and hospital specialists that I had a Gout type problem with my blood and also some toxins in my liver. I spent the first 3 months after being admitted, barely, and I mean barely, being able to move (anyone who's had gout will know what I mean). Also at this time I was given lifelong medication and sent to have physio on my right leg (my right leg hasn't healed for 11months now!).
Suprise suprise i've had an awful time getting any money whatsoever off them and am currently about £5000 in debt for unpaid rent (I was working for the managing agents part-time in the run up to all this so they've helped me massively). I duly saw a benefits case-worker at the CAB that said (forgot to mention I had to move 4 times due to flooding and heating packing up at the same time as all this!), the house you have just moved into is a bit too big for just you but as you cant work/walk and there are no other houses available then the government will pay your rent for the first few months then they will ask u to move to a more suitably sized place.
However, the gov have decided I can get the £85 wk in rent and awarded me an extra £5 in top up/DHB. This £90 obviously doesnt cover the £122 week I had to pay in rent but there was nowhere else available. My family have had to help out whilst I have been ill but they are skint now and I am still waiting for a lot of money. When I queried the CAB worker he said "they are discressionary payments so its upto the gov".
Also all through this time I have never been paid for the month leading upto my claim (was working PT, phone is works, couldnt move or charge it at work so no-one knew what was going on for 2 weeks!), and i've pretty much given up on that.
Also the benefits, £60 wk!, I have been on don't even cover the heating/food and electric of my place, let alone the debts, fags etc. This in turn has led to me having to go a few days a week without heating and as such my leg wont heal because of this (cold is bad for my joints). My GP is going mental and has offered to help as a gov official. At Christmas he did a letter for me basically telling benefits to cover my heating allowance etc and they sent back a warm fron letter (free insulation, like that helps when its -2 outside!).
So to re-iterate: I have been very ill for 11 months, CAB told me the gov would pay my rent but they havent and i've chased this for over 8 months in itself. I am not receiving enough money from them to even get better, my GP will help in any way he can but his letters seem to have fallen on deaf ears! CAB have said its upto the gov whether they pay me or not! And to top things off I told them that when they pay me I will be going self-employed (want to do this but really struggling). They asked me to do a medical exam, which involved a 10mile journey for someone who struggles to move!, but obviously I oculdnt make it. I then sent them a letter 2 weeks ago, saying that you have to keep paying me as i'm very ill and I have no income but that. I would like to go self employed soon but until im paid and my GP says so I cant do anything. If htey have any queries on my health they can speak to my GP directly and gave them his address.
Heard nothing! F**k all! I'm now being hounded for this £4500-5000 in owed rent and have not been given any money for over 3 weeks as they siad they've cancelled it due to non medical exam. I have had no heating on for 5 days now and I can barely move my arms and legs and have no choice but to do ANYTHING I can to survive. My family are trying to help but they are very skint now so I really need some help!
Sorry for waffling on, peace!
PS It gets better! The benefits dept, some 4 months ago, claimed that they'd never received anything in writing off me and so they've never had a claim in! I went ape-sh1t and told them the above and that they have 7 months worth somewhere! Two months later they came back and said they'd found it all in a warehouse in Heywood they use to store docs but thye could not find any benefit claim!!!!!!!! They then, even though I asked for the payments to go to the managing agents as i'm about to be turfed out, sent the money to an account that I haven't used for 3 years and was just using it to pay the debt off. I'm not sure what the gov and bank have been doing but as the account was in the red that transferring of money seems to have cost me an additonal £700! The bank claims I must've given the benefits my bank details (which I did many years ago) so its not there fault!
Needless to say, if I wasn't such a jovial person I would've topped myself by now! Thanks for taking the time to read it and even whinging about it seems to help a little :o
