I saw an episode from 1989 the other day, he got told he couldn't smoke his pipe on the plane to Australia, he yelled back at the stewardess "I've got my rights, I'm a freeman under the magna carta".

That's pretty cool! I wonder if the BBC knew what they were doing by releasing that information!! I will be looking up the writers now and quizzing them, along with the Beeb

That's amazing!!

..and now the series has been brutalised by the BBC due it's "racist" content. It wont be shown on telly ever, ever again.

That's ridiculous if it's true. The character of Alf Garnett was created to take the piss out of racists. Warren Mitchell, an East End Jewish actor and socialist, was cast specifically for this reason - the idea was to make Alf a laughing stock by showing him to be bigoted and illogical in his rants.

It was meant to be an oh-so-clever "ironic" show for the chattering classes and to "educate" the workers.

But what happened is that the irony was lost on many people and Alf became a folk hero for people with racist views.

Now the irony has come full circle if they've banned him.
