Hi all, today i was left a lovely little card from the tv licence inspector. i must say it is of the perfect quality for roach material, but...

Im very interested in the freeman concept and legalese.

My question to the forum is the use of the word "obliged". I was on the understanding that obliged meant it was compulsory.

the card reads as follows...

Dear Occupier

our tv licence inspector was unable to gain attention at this address today.

according to our records this address is not covered by a current television licence.under wireless telegraphy legislation you are obliged to hold a current tv licence if there is receiving apparatus (eg television set, ariel or both)in or on the premises.
Please ensure a licence is taken out within 5 working days to prevent further action being taken.

Can anyone help on what i should do next??. i know your all going to say don't answer the door but one has to open the door sometimes ya know!!

thanks in advance

lol. What should you do next? What are your intentions? Are you legitimately not watching MSM channels or are you dodging? All the info you need is in the TV license thread in the the freeman forum if you are legitimately not watching broadcasts through your Aerial.

You are only obliged if...

The bottom line is your TV is only a receiving apparatus if it's actually plugged in via the ariel/cable/etc if this component is removed your TV is no longer a receiving apparatus and you are not obliged to do anything whatsoever.
