Iran's top military commander, Yahya Rahim-Safavi, says US President Barack Obama's choice of staff goes against his slogan of change.

The incumbent US president who won the 2008 White House race repeating the mantra of "change" has maintained several former White House insiders in their posts.

"It's really early to comment on Obama's change policy, but appointments within his administration do not really reflect any likely reforms in the American foreign policy," the senior military advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday.

Among the officials retained from the era of former president George W. Bush are Defense Secretary Robert Gates and hawkish Treasury Department Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Stuart Levey.

Referring to the reappointment of Gates to his previous post, Rahim-Safavi said, "It seems highly unlikely that the Obama Administration will change US military tactics in the Middle East and Southwest Asia."

He went on to support his comment by saying that "there has been no change in the US military arrangement in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman."
