These are the UK governments own official figures, as this is the number of people claiming Incapacity Benefit because of obesity.

There are many times this number of Americans who are too obese to work. How can they afford to eat, when there is virtually no welfare benefits in the USA?

I would venture half of American women are over 300 lbs ... that's why the ugliest 'normal' (somewhat thin) women have more than a few men running after them.

What's happening ? Depression, lack of love, lack of companionship, loneliness, breakdown of family ties, work pressures, financial pressures, name it ... makes people give up everything and succumb to gluttony (especially for women, since they abhor alcohol as an escape for the most part) as the only escape left from the mental prison they find themselves in. Drugs are another escape ... but soft drugs can cause you to overeat too :D

It is a vicious circle that will be broken only when .... (add your own thoughts here).

Fat people eat CRAP, thats why its cheap, mmm, Beef Connective tissue!

I'm sure there is a lot of comfort eating - over indulgence and eating unhealthy stuff ( I do that myself when I'm anxious...mmm, chocolate!)

But the more you discover things, like the fact that flouride encourages weight gain, and aspartamine makes you gain more weight than sugar, the more likely it seems to me that some people are suseptible to these deliberatly harmful additives. I feel that may be part of the issue.
