This thread is an expansion of a post in another thread about aerial views of Baghdad. I thought I'd focus on Sadam Parade...

Baghdad Compass and Square Layout

When seen from the air, Baghdad has some very interesting geometry in the layout of some of its landmarks..., landmarks incorporating "Masonic style" symbolism, including the obvious compass and square, and a number of other ubiquitous symbols such as the Eye in the pyramid.

The two aerial shots above (click to enlarge) are of a place in Baghdad called Saddam Parade, before we went to war with Iraq. Just to the side of the parade strip, in the middle, is the semi-opened dome where Saddam sheltered as he watched the military march past with its hardware.
At either end of the broad parade strip are The Hands of Victory, aka, The Swords of Qadisiyah.

In Google Earth, if you zoom into Baghdad and zoom into the coordinates that are shown at the bottom of the above two aerial shots, you can study the area in much more detail... very fascinating!

The circular landmark to the right of Saddam Parade is the Tomb and Museum of the Unknown Soldier. The Trident symbol, above the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, looks like a motorway intersection.

How different things can look when looked upon from above!
