"So where are all the deathbed confessions?" whine the skeptics.

However, I doubt very much that Nick Pope knows the whole story. On a TV show just a few months ago he denounced "conspiracy theorists" who assuse the govt of covering up UFO encounters.

This is good news, for sure. It won't be enough for many 'nuts & bolts' skeptics, but who cares? I, for one, have never been 100% sold on the Aliens at Roswell story, but this certainly gives the Roswell story more credibility as far as I am concerned. Why would somebody tell such a story on their deathbed, especially when they have never spoken of it before, if it were not true?

As for Nick Pope - I generally ignore him. How can anyone who has overseen the files on the Rendlesham Forest incidents possibly claim that there is no UFO cover-up?! I think he just proves that it is near-impossible to be a truthseeker and work for the government.

I think Pope arrogantly assumes that if there was a UFO cover-up he would automatically know about it. Rubbish! He's just a public-relations man. He's been put on a bit of a false pedastel if you ask me.

Completely agree. It does annoy me that he is always wheeled out on tv documentaries as THE expert on UFOs because he is the man on the inside, who must know what's really going on, like some kind of Fox Mulder - and he milks that perception to the max. I think the 'ufo community' has given him far too much credence in the past, which, I think has actually held up progress in this field for too long.

He's actually referred to as "Britain’s answer to Fox Mulder" which is a complete hard-sell! Pope is a civil servant in Section (AS) 2a at the Ministry of Defence. His position was that of Executive Officer which he claims is a civil service rank that’s equivalent of an army captain. When he was promoted to “higher executive officer” he reckons he was made the equivalent of an army major. But that’s crap! These grades cannot be compared with military ranks. Unlike his supposed namesake from “The X-Files” he has never done any field work (supposedly) and his office acts as a media liason. It works under the preposterous assumption that the MoD has decided that UFO’s are of no significant interest to the security of the nation and simply needs someone to answer to the phone to the loonies who still think they’re real.

In other words, (AS) 2a is a figurehead organization to project an illusion and Popey is the guy running it!

I have met Nick Pope quiet a few times at the Leeds UFO conferences between 1998-2002, I remember the last time I met him was at the Gala dinner do on the Saturday night (2002), which was always a good laugh:D It was very funny, as after a couple of drinks he was all over the place, Fox Mulder he aint!!LOL;):D
