Hi everyone,
i'm new here. i've been reading the forum for a while now and i must say, i'm happy i found it!! since last september i've been feeling "awakened" somehow but feel i can't talk about things with most of my friends...

so, to my question: i've been using contact lenses for 10 years now and my eyes don't like them (i use dailies but still my eyes get irritated). i can't use glasses at work so i have been considering a laser operation of both eyes.

do you know anything about that? i've heard a lot of positive things about the operation but nothing about effects in the long run. i mean, i want to have functioning eyes my whole life :)

He xenia & welcome to the forum :)

I'm sure you'll enjoy it here with lots of like-minded people.

Sorry to hear that you're not getting on with daily lenses. I personally have hard gas permeable ones, which seem to work just fine for me, although I know they don't work for everyone.

My mum recently had laser surgery & has been really amazed at the results. However, I think it does depend on your age (she is mid 50's), as I'm not sure of the long term effects.

I read an article, but can't find it now (typical) that no no's laser therapy, saying it is short term and progressively damages the eyes, so you'll need more and more laser correction.
Have you thought of paying a few hundred for a pair of permanent contact lenses, instead of the daily pairs?

thanks for the answers! i haven't even heard of permanent lenses (only dailies and 1 month), but i'll ask my doctor about them.

danielg: i believe what you wrote: that one has to operate the eyes over and over to maintain the great results. this is the problem: how long have they actually been operating people's eyes with the current technique?? what are the long term effects, i mean 30-40 years from the operation...

i'm 30 now, and don't want to pay 2800 euros for an operation i'll have to renew a few times during my life. also, there probably are a number of risks involved in performing operation on the eyes many times.

i'm no professional in this field, but the whole thing sounds a bit too good to be true.
