Expect an increase in your next electricity bill then!

I can honestly say that energy saving bulbs have saved me a lot of money. And apart from the possible health risk from mercury escape if they break (not happened to me yet, in my experience they don't just 'blow' for no reason), what other proven health risks do they pose?

I would really like to see some hard evidence if there is any, seriously. Convince me.

I'll give an example of the savings on my leccy bills..

My house is a 3 bed terrace, all the heating/hot water/cooking is gas, so the only electrical usage is TV, stereo, kettle, computer, microwave, fridge/freezer. And of course lighting, which is on a lot. Got no washing machine or dishwasher.

Before fitting energy-saving bulbs throughout, my quarterly leccy bill was somewhere in the region of 150 to 200 quid.

;)My latest one (even after the recent energy price rises), was 49 quid..

The microwave should go Diamondgeezer, - a most un-natural method to cook food - it alters the natural molecular structure of the food killing its , nutrition benefits to you. However this is for another post.
The mercury thing does appear to be the biggest hazard and its not just 'it might brake', once that lightbulb is the bin then that mercury will eventually go somewhere - in the soil for us to grow food?
I have heard that new energy light bulbs produce high levels of radio frequency radiation "dirty electricity", which in turn adversely affect health, such as muscle and joint pain, headaches, nausea, sleep disorders, respiratory problems, rashes along with anxiety and depression. It is worse when the light bulb is on and near to the person for a long period of time.
Some things on it here.

Ok I've just had a read of your link, and fair enough its got me thinking. This 'dirty electricity' factor, if true, looks like bad news...I'll certainly be looking into it further...

There is definite evidence that living in close proximity to high-voltage electricity cables (if your house is underneath pylons for example), can cause those exact same problems..although that evidence is refuted on the whole by the authorities, here in the UK at least. Co-incidence? Perhaps not..

As for the microwave-yep I'm certainly wary of the thing-only use it occasionally, and make damn sure I'm not stood anywhere near it while its operating. But does it actually alter the molecular structure of the food? As far as I'm aware it just 'agitates' the molecules, therefore causing heat by friction.
