I just heard reports of people on NHS (U.K) being given Hepatitis and H.I.V contaminated Blood.
If the reports are as they seem, no way do i believe this is an accident.
This stinks......Thoughts......?

Would this be anything to do with it? Or has something else happened too?

LONDON (AFP) — An inquiry into a contaminated blood scandal which caused the death of around 2,000 people criticised Monday "procrastination" by government and officials over the affair.
Thousands of people with haemophilia contracted hepatitis C and HIV after receiving blood transfusions through the National Health Service (NHS) in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
Because of a shortage of blood products here, the NHS bought much of its stock from US suppliers whose donors, including prisoners and other groups at high risk of infection, had been paid for their blood.
Lord Peter Archer, who led the independent inquiry, called what had happened a "horrific human tragedy".
That certainly sounds like they were deliberately sourcing high-risk blood, plus, the screening procedures back then would not have detected it,which is basically why so many (7,000 in the U.K.according to another article) were infected. The same thing happened with Factor 8 a few years back.
Then, there's the case of the Bulgarian nurses in Libya.Ghadiffi was absolutely convinced the contamination/infection was deliberate, though of course, the nurses themselves were innocent pawns.

The NHS was getting the blood supplies from the U.S.Many people in the U.K. are infected or dead. This is what the enquiry is about.
It makes you wonder how many people globally are affected.

Bayer Sells AIDS-Infected Drug Banned in U.S. in Europe, Asia - Unearthed documents show that the drug company Bayer sold millions of dollars worth of an injectable blood-clotting medicine -- Factor VIII concentrate, intended for hemophiliacs -- to Asian, Latin American, and some European countries in the mid-1980s, although they knew that it was tainted with AIDS. Bayer knew about the fact that the drug was tainted and told the FDA to keep things under wraps while they made a profit off of a drug that infected its patients. If these allegations are true, then both Bayer and the FDA are at fault for this catastrophe. FDA regulators helped to keep the continued sales hidden, asking the company that the problem be ''quietly solved without alerting the Congress, the medical community and the public,'' according to the minutes of a 1985 meeting

I know.....Bayer knew about the fact that the drug was tainted - you have to wonder what else they know about.....
Although it does not shock me - you have to wonder, especially with those who have (unprotected) promiscuous sex, and even for the Innocent partner who then spreads unknowingly.
Or even those who come into contact with blood etc. (Medical/Nurse etc)
People really need to be careful - and those in circles of Friday night Pub/club/sex/forget routines, without it becoming another reason to FEAR.

What must Hospital Staff think of this - to be handling possibly contaminated blood etc.
(Hagbard is a Hospital porter, i wonder what he thinks of this)
And people who may need it!!!!
And if it's over here, what must be in Europe!

Blood victims 'owed compensation'
Published Date: 23 February 2009
The Government should pay extra compensation to thousands of victims infected with HIV and hepatitis C in a blood contamination scandal, a public inquiry has concluded.
The inquiry condemned "procrastination" by Governments and scientific agencies that led to the scale of the "horrific human tragedy".
Some 4,670 haemophiliacs who received blood transfusions in the 1970s and 1980s were infected with hepatitis C, of whom 1,243 were also infected with HIV.
Nearly 2,000 have died as a result of exposure to the tainted blood in what leading medical expert Lord Winston called "the worst treatment disaster in the history of the NHS".
A two-year inquiry into the scandal, chaired by Lord Archer of Sandwell, a Labour peer and former solicitor general, found there was "lethargic" progress in reaching national self-sufficiency in blood products in England and Wales, where the process took 13 years compared to just five years in Ireland.
As a result the NHS bought blood from US suppliers who used paid "skid row" donors, such as prison inmates, who were more likely to have HIV and hepatitis C.
The inquiry report noted: "It is difficult to avoid the conclusion that commercial interests took precedence over public health concerns."
It said it was difficult to assess whether the lack of urgency in this period arose from "over-hesitant scientific advice" or from "a sluggish response by Government".
The 113-page report concluded: "Commercial priorities should never again override the interests of public health."

glad to see this issue is eventually hitting the mainstream
not that it's going to help those affected ..
back in the day, a drinking buddy of mine was one of those hemophiliacs
given infected product and the poor bastard only lasted 18 months,
he knew then, what had given him a death sentence and who was
responsible
I don't hold out much hope for justice following the investigation BUT
this scale of coverage does serve to expose the endemic corruption to the unaware masses
