A police crackdown on antisocial behaviour saw 120 children picked up on the streets and taken home.

Police and children's services in 27 areas in England are taking part in Operation Staysafe over the weekend, targeting youngsters who were drunk, taking drugs, out late with nowhere to stay or behaving badly.

On Friday night more than 1,000 young people were spoken to by the Staysafe teams, according to the figures released by the Home Office.

Of those, 120 were returned to their homes while 103 referrals were made to other services including family support teams, parenting programmes and alcohol awareness projects.

Deputy Chief Constable Bernard Lawson said: "Operation Staysafe allows the early intervention by police and support services with young people to prevent those youths becoming involved in criminal activity or becoming victims of crime themselves."

He added: "It can help to identify reasons for the young person being on the street late at night and intervene where necessary to protect our most vulnerable."

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said: "Most parents would be horrified to receive a knock on the door from police returning their child to them.

"But there are too many who think it is acceptable to allow their child to stay out late where they may be vulnerable to becoming victims of crime or committing crime."

"I want to send the clear message to parents that not knowing where your child is at night or allowing them to stay out late on their own is unacceptable and I want to reassure communities that we are working to keep children safe from harm and tackle youth crime and disorder head on."

Firstly, how ironic Jacqui Spliff says this, its her party that encouraged anti-social behaviour.

Secondly, does this policy take us yet another step closer to a fascist state?

Order out of the chaos created by the New Labour fascists.
