View Full Version : My Induction at ASDA today

Oh what a terrible induction to big brother I came across today. Ok this could get me into trouble because I signed a document saying that I wouldn’t talk about what I’ve been through with at ASDA today. But people have to read this because it’s an absolute joke.
The first thing that I came across and it really terrified me was an electric fence that got installed sometime earlier this decade to stop thieves from escaping with goods - as if CCTV isn’t enough. I’m not saying that thieving is right but as a worker I’ll have to work near this eclectic fence and I could get electrocuted. My induction officer was working just millimetres away from the fence.
Another thing that really made me smile inside was when I asked for a joke if they would be any subliminal messaging in these ASDA training videos and she said nope they’ll be no hidden agendas or anything like that - its all open at ASDA. But the minute I said that her mood with me changed. She wanted rid of me and rushed me through the work ASAP.
The other thing that was pretty silly was a staff card where you put the card in this machine and you put your own change into it - staff are not allowed to carry change around - isn’t ASDA meant to be saving energy and could so by scrapping these useless cards?
Funny old day and I’m for one not looking forward to my work experience they.

"wtf! - i only asked about subliminals. wheres all this stuff about a 'hidden agenda' coming from??" :D
asda are the most sinister of the big stores IMO. They link into the government closely that there are actually people working in there for their benefits, or soon will be - effectively exploiting vulnerable people for free, as they will only get benefits & not the minimum wage. I heard about a deaf lad who was killed by a forklift - obviously he shouldnt have been forced into such an unsuitable workplace. (they since introduced a fluorescent jacket policy)
Ive wondered about the 'walmart' logo proudly displayed on a huge billboard outside. Is this supposed to impress us - why?

i wouldn't worry too much polveir, inductions are akin to a brainwashing/programming, getting you to act and behave as the employer want's you to.
no wonder the woman was freaked out when you asked if there were subliminals in the vid :D

Dont work for Asda. I know a few people who have and they absolutely hated it. The managers/supervisors are little hitlers.

It's the same with most of the huge 'chain stores.' I'm a contractor and a few months ago we were finishing up some last minute touches to a mega hardware store called LOWES while the brand new staff were going through their training/indoctrination. I'm ex-military and law enforcement and It's been quite a long time since I heard all that brain washing crap. It actually made the hair on the back of my neck stand up....guess it's because I SAW what it really was.
To play devil's advocate, I guess they'd have to make the employees think that they're special and nothing without them; how else would they come in to work for minimum wage in a multi million dollar operation?

That’s what got me most about her answer - where did hidden agendas come from? Obviously she’s aware of such stuff so she’s either like me or in with the Illuminati (very much doubt that one though).
Surely a normal ‘sheep’ person would of said to me what are you talking about and don’t be silly than come out with a statement like that!
I heard about a deaf lad who was killed by a forklift - obviously he shouldnt have been forced into such an unsuitable workplace. (they since introduced a fluorescent jacket policy)
I’m a touch hard of hearing (listen to what I want to hear and assume the rest to cut a long story short) and my balance isn’t the best balance in the world. But a death lad in the warehouse just shows what this worlds intentions are - it doesn’t matter if your in danger as long as your in a job.
Ive wondered about the 'walmart' logo proudly displayed on a huge billboard outside. Is this supposed to impress us - why?
The one thing that is really freaky about my ASDA is they have like a bit Triangle roof with a circle 24hrs signed in the middle of it. I can get a photo of that easily. Other than that I can’t really answer your question!

What was you expecting - me to be micro chipped?

Please do because I would if it wasn’t for me been watched like a hawk whilst I’m getting ‘experience’.

my mother works at Asda. at 4pm everyday they used to play "let's get ready to rumble" by ant & dec, which meant everyone had to work extra hard. they also used to have "huddles". this involved the supervisor donning a "huddle hat" ( baseball cap ), at the sight of which the workers had to congregate for a pep-talk...

When I was at school, I had a Saturday job in Woolworths (on the sweet counter). We weren't allowed to wear boots, socks or thick tights in case we stole money and hid it there. Also, if you were caught eating a sweet it was instant dismissal.
We had a weird indoctrination video too, but I can't remember anything about it other than it seemed to have nothing to do with working in a shop.
Mind you, I also worked in a Local Government office years ago. That was awful. We were treated like criminals - the stamps were kept in a safe - and if you were off sick they never believed it was genuine, and made you have a 'welfare' (read disciplinary) interview if you had more than five sick days in any year.

people are criminals.
or even better; need awareness, direction and proper allocation.

I had the same experience when I worked for Sainsburys a few years back, was one of the worst places to work I have ever experienced.

i m usually a lurker but this asda thing made me log in!
i worked at asda for a whole 2 weeks in 2001 when i was a student.
we had to call eachother "colleauge" which i found rather unnerving - and i hadnt even read 1984 at that point! i just thought it was plain controlling.
and we had a whole day of brainwashing as part of the training.
i now work for the council and am surprised as i havent yet gone through any kind of 'rewire'
so from my experience....asda attempt more thorough lobotomys:D

LOL I know someone who works for them, and they told me about that '4-o-clock-rumble' shite. I've even heard a staff announcement about it over the store 'radio station' while shopping in there, telling the staff to jump to it. What a load of bollox.
Worked for a couple of firms myself that use similar technices, jumped-up little managers or their sidekicks (team leaders) getting all artificially 'enthusiastic' on everyone's ass to get more work out of them. :rolleyes:They actually consult psychologists you know, some of these companies. That '4-oclock' shite is all about 'maximisation'...4pm has been 'identified' as the time of day where the body clock starts to slow down, and everyone is naturally thinking of going home in an hour or two...can't have that can we? Bad for production...
I once worked in a place where the manager would send out for cakes & doughnuts in the mid-afternoon and cajole everyone to eat some. Because the sugar/calorie intake gives a short-term burst of energy. :(Fuckinell

Cant argue with the cakes and donuts though :P As long as theres no Aspartame in them.
