I'm writing an essay on anarchism for uni and as well as adressing the pro-state arguments of Thomas Hobbes and John Locke I want to address contemporary pro-statist arguments so please help me by all telling me why you think we need a government/state. :) Much appreciated!

I don't think we need governments, or states, for anything. I don't support a System that requires these things (which is why I don't vote).

We do, however, need leaders. And a working justice system. And a ruling Council to decide tribal matters. But that is all.

IMO, of course.

I prefer an Enlightened Anarchy, but there is one way of organizing society that I have been thinking of that might be a way to get there. The idea is that there is only one law called the Harm Tax. It makes companies and individuals pay an amount of money proportionate to the harm they do. It would involve the development of sophisticated algorithms to calculate the amount. Any and all information would be used without prejudice to obtain the most accurate results. Take the profit motive away and all of a sudden things might get a lot better.

You're on the wrong forum for a pro-government viewpoint. Go to any other forum instead. I'm sure talksport has a forum full of thick twats who love authority.

Punch 'Michael Albert' + 'paracon' into Google and read up on his thoughts.

Steal some of the stuff he says and you'll probably get an A...or a D-.

We do, however, need leaders. And a working justice system. And a ruling Council to decide tribal matters. But that is all.

IMO, of course.Same here; but I add & say we don't need Governments at all; specially I don't like the term leader because it point's to the obvious leader ship usually screws up there brains & turns into egoisms after a period of time. We need one basic simple rule for all which all understand even the simplest minded person.

I had a leader position looking after up to 300 persons & I hated it when my working mates called me boss because I am a part of them not separate from them. How would I have my job & function without my working mates?
Looks like I am the only person thinking this way & practiced it this way!

Once you all understand the basic logic; that the so called Elite & leaders needs YOU to even exist then you know how to defeat there power game! They need you; you don't need them. So don't ask them for Help; help your self you're family & you're neighbors.

Why people are so dumb to not understand this??

I also never Voted for these criminals!
We need public servants which get paid for there service & if they play up they get replaced with new Public Servants there should not be any time limit at all to create a monopoly situation.
You do the right thing you have a job & function in the community. You do wrong you out of a job. Simple really.

Strange that our present Leaders don't like ideas like this??

The key is always ask why if things don't appear to be normal!
Don't leaders hate it when you ask them Why! ..... I love asking why because I learn from the answers. Even from a none answer ore silence reaction to you're why question you are able to learn from.

But if you don't ever ask why if you confused or did not understand you will never learn!

And the biggest assholes in our world are the once which tell you to shut up don't ask question's & just listen!
Welcome to the world of robots & consequently sheep!

Now you maybe understand why the MSM is so important for the Elite & puppets because you are forced to only listen & can never ask questions!
You see the Elite is very smart you are very dumb for not understanding this; but once you ask questions they start to worry & usually they give you new toys to play with so you don't ask questions!

This is the way schools are today like a computer with only a keyboard but no monitor. Only punching information & data into you but never ask you for visual response!

Typical Communist, Political, Religion, Dictator & Army system! As long this categories I mentioned are united Democracy is an illusion & a Hoax! I understood this when I left school & lived my life accordantly to what I understood from the corrupt system!

You know there are two words I hate the most it's "you must & you have to" ..... my simple answer to this is; ...... there are only one thing I have to & must do which is that I fiscally die one day the same like you; .... all other things are optional as long I fiscally live.

Because it does help people to an extent. It may actually keep people under control and make them less prone to hurting each other. If you have a bunch of uncontrollable people walking around, there are bound to be some who want to take advantage of others or want power, so not having a government might actually make the crime rates go up.

And if we actually had a good government, they might be useful for a lot of things.

[I][why you think we need a government/state/I]

By definition, a government governs or rules or if you prefer dictates to..the population wether they want to be ruled or not....

Almost every society in history has had rulers from Pharoahs to Kings to Presidents and Prime ministers.

After the English civil war when King Charles 1 was executed and replaced by Parliament Cromwell apointed himself as Lord Protector and the wealthy remained wealthy and the poor remained poor...

Nothing has really changed and although personally I don't think we need a National government as such we still need service providers to co ordinate and run hospitals, clean streets . The problem now though is that we are governed locally by councils, nationally by the UK Government and Internationally by the EU...

Too much government and less freedom ....

Too much government and less freedom ....
So my logical formula out of this is!
Too much government and less freedom

No Government total freedom.

And the more important one is no puppets no criminal corrupt mafia Bankers

I think governments are needed to a certain extend, basically to provide military and police defense forces. They should have no power whatsoever over people's personal matters; small governments where everyone has the right to express themselves freely.
But to some point, I think the idea of a organized system and a governer shall always be there, even in our daily life; from your boss at work to the president. Having a limited government is not a bad thing as long as they do their jobs and do it the right way without being drunk on power, thinking that they own the people, not that they work for them -or thinking that they have the right to tell people how to live their lives.
