JAKARTA (Reuters) - Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla, who opposes legalizing marijuana, doesn't mind the drug being used in cooking, a newspaper reported on Wednesday.
"It's alright to use it as a food seasoning, but it should not be fully legalized," Kalla was quoted as saying by the Jakarta Post daily.
Kalla was commenting on a recent study by two Indonesian agencies dealing with drug abuse that recommended the government review its policy to outlaw the use of marijuana for recreational purposes, the Post said.
Many of dishes in Aceh province, where hemp plants are grown, such as mutton and beef curry are said to be laced with marijuana seeds to give them a distinctive local flavor.
A drug expert from the National Narcotics Agency reportedly said Indonesia should follow the example of countries like the Netherlands, where marijuana is legal, because it is not as harmful as people thought.
Ratna Dwikora, the owner of an Acehnese food restaurant in Jakarta, told the Kompas newspaper "marijuana is available in any Acehnese kitchen just like coriander."
"Marijuana is a widely-accepted cooking spice there," she told the newspaper.
Indonesia imposes harsh penalties, including death, for narcotic offences as the country faces a growing drug menace.
Five Chinese nationals, a Dutchman and a Frenchman who appealed against the length of their convictions on drug charges were instead sentenced to death last month.
Six young Australians were sentenced to death last year for heroin smuggling on Bali, sparking anger in Australia where capital punishment has been abolished.

I think it has more to do than just flavouring. the medicinal qualities of the herb when eaten would more than likely be benefical too.
Hemp butter made from the seeds I think is very healthy indeed. This was common in many parts of the World before the herb became illegal.

So a " Politician okays marijuana in food" but still opposes legalizing it?
Well, I okay the use of politicians as food.
Might have to add a bit of soy-sauce or ketchup to make them palatable, though... or perhaps processing them all into Soylent Green first would help.

Hemp seeds are very good for you. One of the main benefits is they contain essential fatty & amino acids, plus lots of other good stuff too...

I think it would be much better than all the salt we have to endure taking whilst listening to them:eek:

I've seen a few accidents with mj in food ie: cookies, at a party someone left theirs on their plate put the plate on the ground and the dog ate it. Not my dog, the owner of the houses. The dog was out of it for days. We nursed her back to being able to walk. This was scary, imagine if that had of been a child, omg., so I won't allow anything like that.
You don't get high on seeds, whats the point, and to flavour your food with mj,???? eeewwww, would taste like crunchy earthy grass/dirt. mmmmmm I wonder, maybe if they were roasted?

Hi ngawaka
OMG that's not good news about the poor dog, bless & heaven forbid if a child got hold of it too!
However, my post about hemp seeds was purely for health benefits, not for getting high! Hemp is not the way to go for getting high, plenty of other mj alternatives for that, hehe ;)

No. Those "Legal highs" you can get are a total waste of your time and money.
Stick to the herb! Just don't over-do it!

I've kinda missed you auron. Where've you been?
Hope you can forgive me for the human helicopter impersonation I did in the rant room at you. Sorry man. No excuses just sorry.
I made a banana dope cake once. It was my friends 21st and he gave me an ounce of coromandel bud and asked me to make one for the party. So I did. Got to the party handed it to him and saw that there was alot of oldies and straight family members there. I told my mate to put it somewhere safe, like in his room away from the hub of raging oldies. But accidentally it found its way to the table and the aunties and the nans thought it was a lovely cake until they found themselves cruising to van morrison, stuck like lead to the chair with the meanest body stone. Apparently they were still out of it 2 days later, including his father who is Dr Bill Elliot the man who invented the take home pack for diabetes sufferers. Not a good look. Felt sooooooo bad. This was 1 of 2 bad buzzes Ive had with mj in food, so its a big no no now. Useless information really. But incidental, why is it that when consumed, mj has a body stone that weights your legs like lead to the ground, yet when smoked its your eye lids that are weighted to the ground like lead.?? Anyone know why?

I've also decided that I'm not going to post anything anymore unless I have something positive to say!

"OMG that's not good news about the poor dog, bless & heaven forbid if a child got hold of it too!"
I don't want to be controversial, but this kind of statement reminds me of the NWO media.
We must have endless Speed Cameras, Seat belts, humps in the road, road signs, dog breeds, chips to avoid kidnapping... you name it.
NO... I'd rather have the odd dead kid. You cannot save every last woman, man or child from their own, or others, stupidity. There comes a point where people have to take responsibility for their own and their children's safety.
I might add... this is evolution, or people must learn etc.
How about just being a responsible dog owner and LOOK AFTER HIM ie. Don't take him to parties where accidents like this have the potential to happen.
And DON'T lobby for National Law based on the odd bad incident. This is how we became emeshed in this Police State business.
However I am ALSO SAYING the odd sensible measure is not a bad idea. Its just most of them are bad ideas.

I must admit, I feel the same way. When ever there are people collecting money for 'save the children' etc, i always say what for, we are over populated, why don't you spend your time fighting for the planet instead and the animals. and yes if i had to give my life up for the cause of saving the planet i would. But at the moment i'm trying to bring 2 boys up with the ability to save more. One of which wants to be a quantum scientist and already knows more than the average person. and the other is an incredible musician and wants to send the message via music. very proud and until they stop needing me i'll give them what they need because very soon they will be part of the spearhead of the fight.
