Now, I had just read the Hostel 2 thread. And that reminded me about something that I am abit teed-off about.

Manhunt, for me anyways, was a fun game. It's about stealth, survival, and taking down a sadistic prick. While many look at only the (it would be wrong of me not to use the word "extreme")violence of the cut-scenes, I can understand that it was not welcome to many households. Infact, if I had kids, I wouldn't let them play it either until I felt they were at a mature enough mentality to handle it.

What presses my buttons though, is that while there:

- an illegal war going on in Iraq
- possibility of an illegal war going to hit Iran
- great opposition and threats being made of the EU Constitution.. Sorry, "Reform Act"
- over 3000 people dead in Congo over the weekend while the mainstream media felt it was more "psychologically acceptable subject to disscuss around the water-cooler" to report front-page about how Paris Hilton just got out of jail
- the extreme loss of rights to the people of China

and much much much more going on in our world today. Politicians (England, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, and else where) feel it is their duty to protect their citizens from "smut" video-games such as Manhunt 2 by: BANNING THEM!!!

Fuck every one of those bastards. I'm not going around killing people, I'm not going around screaming to everyone that I'm going insane from this. This is not going to bother any of my children(I don't have any). I say fuck you to each one of them because they feel they have nothing better to do, that this?!?

BULLSHIT!!

more things being banned such as smoking to get it slowly into peoples minds that what they say is final

censorship IS part of the system

what would be a cut down on brainwashing is to get every pro one wordl government pro american world war game of the shelves as they have as much vioelence as any other game

well defo see more things being banned subtle but very effective as the sheeple get used to it

Young children may have their brains messed up by violent video games, but older children, teenagers and adults can distinguish between a man having his head blown off in a video game and a man in real life having his head blown off in Iraq. Only a person with a grave psychopathic mental disturbance would mix up, and have difficulty in separating violence in real life and violence in video games and movies.

I played Carmageddon when I was 12, running over old ladies didn't bother me, because it was totally fun and over-the-top in the first place. Getting splatter-bonusses whas one the goals when I drove those bad-ass cars. In those days videogame-makers actually had inspiration for high-quality characters en visual style, unlike the repititive nature of games, especially first person shooters. But no way I'd drive over people in real life. And I personally loved the brutal (yet cartoony) style of Manhunt (until it turned out to be a shooting-fest at the final part of the game, then it losts its uniqueness).

Postal 2 is a great game imo, because it lets you decide whether or not to kill people, unlike the comments of so many gamers who actually don't even try out some of the interactions with characters in the game. The Postal Dude actually says when arrested by cops: "Don't blame me, book the kid with the keyboard!". He couldn't be any closer to the truth. Realising you're playing a (possibly) violent game is one thing, but knowing that it's meant as entertainment is more important because it disconnects your from life itself. Soldier of Fortune (and the sequal, with the third coming by the end of this year) was also a controversial game when it came out, but the same brutal and violant, yet cartoonty, style continued. I actually tried out many combations on how to kill people in the game, it's awesome.

I'm still worried though about the looks of games that are coming out, and those to be released in the future, because the level of reality keeps raising. Characters get realistic emotions, movements, etc. and no way I'm gonna have a good feeling when I can literally feel the emotion of killing a living being on the screen (cause that's what they'll probably be in the future). Fortunately, there's something called 'the uncanny valley', which basicaly means that the more we focus on the level of reality of the characters in the games, the less they actually look 'human', but more like plastic, shiny beings who are behaving like a complete retard in regards to movements, and basic (e)motion.

Not true.

E.g. subliminal suggestion.

Not true.

E.g. subliminal suggestion.

Subliminal messages no doubt can have a major impact, but for violence such as killing people, can subliminals really reprogram people to not be able to tell the difference between a video game and reality? I don't have the statistics, but most people certainly can tell the difference between running over old ladies in a video game versus running over old ladies in real life with a real car.

What is the evolutionary function of children's play?

What is the evolutionary function of children's play?

Before the age of six, children are predominantly in a state without self-awareness, a state of "downloading" as Bruce Lipton called it. During that first period in a person's life my guess is that wrong play or learning surely can be very harmful. But for older children I think that violent video games are essentially completely harmless. Maybe video games should have a similar rating as movies, but other than that, I think only psychopaths have difficulty distinguishing between violence in fiction and violence in reality.

Around here the older kids do things like randomly pick people off the street, attack them while filming it on their mobile to play back to their scum mates for a laugh. The authorities condone it by giving the offenders, who were only caught after a citizens arrest incidentally, a caution. This was when a totally innocent person ended up in hospital and had to take four weeks off work, I think he had some bones broken as well. Really funny isn't it and completely harmless!

As an avid video game player myself, I enjoyed the first 'Manhunt'. The gameplay, the story-line, the graphics, the control.....it was one of the best running, smooth, entertaining video games I've ever played and I'm a Die Hard HITMAN fan.

I see why this game is getting banned, not that I agree with it, but I understand. I've played all 'generes' of video games and I haven't killed anyone. Although, obsessive game play may have an impact on certain individuals.

Anyways, when it comes out and you want to buy it, we can arrange for you to wire me the money and I'll gladly purchase it and fed-ex it to you. I would hate for a hard-core gamer to miss out on a great gaming experience because the government deems it too violent.

Clearly psychopathic behaviour. The question is if video games have created those monster tendencies and if so, at what age they started playing those games.

Good question...

Then again, I can't for the day those bastards pick the wrong person and he(or she) fucks them up royally. Man, just thinking about such people getting a taste of their own medicine kinda gets me excited. :o
