Hello...
Hell-o? "Hell" o???
It seems we begin our conversations with a curse! What's up with that?

I was prompted to start this thread for a couple of reasons: 1) the amazing amount of rubbish being posted to the forum of late--I figured I'd fight fire with fire, and 2) I had just received a phone call from someone I did not want to speak to. I have caller ID so I knew who it was before I answered. I picked up the phone and said, "Hell...o" without even realizing what I was doing, because it felt like hell for having to answer. That got me to thinking about a possible subliminal relationship that the two words might have.
Did our evil Overlords create these words for us, thereby causing us to damn ourselves and each other to the fires of everlasting torment every time we answer the phone?
Perhaps... Or perhaps not. You make the call.

I was thinking the other day, after seeing the John Harris film where he talks about legalese being a language that uses english words but with non-standard meanings, that the english language itself could well be another Matrix trap. I've heard it said before by bilingual people that the shape of their thoughts changes when they switch from thinking in one language to thinking in another, but as I'm not bilingual myself I don't know if this is true or not. Maybe someone who is can confirm or deny this.
