I was watching my daughter play this game. From what I gather the Illuminati is out to destroy the USA with the help of aliens that are introduced into your system through a shot. You are then controlled through wave patterns to do what the illuminati want. They have a lot of symbolism and remember throught the game you hear illuminati over and over...

I have never played RE4, but I was a big fan of the series up until that point. My buddy loves it, and the few times I've watched him play it I didn't think much of the brain washed people. I never heard them mention the illuminati either though.
It is interesting that you say that, because I know they had the game about half way done when they decided to start all over and go in a new direction. The beta was still a deviation from the series, but as I understand it was still on the same Umbrella storyline. The final cut is a total deviation, and I wonder who the new developers were that came in to change it.
Maybe the whole series was a tavistock plot? The whole story is basically a pharmecutical company that turns the entire population of a town into zombies. It's eerie at a second glance really.

The secret cult call themselves the 'Los Illuminados.' They are crazy parasite-infected people who wants to rule the world with their leader, Lord Osmund Saddler. He controls all of the lowly parasites, his dream is to destroy the United States Government and infest the earth with the Las Plagas virus and soon the world will be a nasty place.
Leon S. Kennedy and Ada Wong are there to stop him and his planned activities and save the President's daughter.

Yes I completed this game and yes it is alot different from the previous ones. The gothic mansion was creepy and there were alters for sacrifice (there was a mention of sacrifice in the story). Also involves the president's daughter....mmmm
I remember seeing subliminal demon faces in some of the backgrounds ...anybody else see it?
Shapeshifting occultists are the games main bad guys. Their name also translates to the Illuminati.
The Illuminati also appear in Street Fighter 3 (another Capcom game).
Here's a bio for their leader:

Have any of you noticed that the Umbrella Corporation logo in Resident Evil looks exactly like the Knights of Templar red cross? Here are some pics:

Why is that? Is it some form of predictive programming? Is the world supposed to become zombies?
Also, why do two of the Resident Evil films start showing a close up of Alice's eye waking up? In fact, many movies show a zoom up of someone's eye, even documentaries do. Why is that? Is it a reference to the all seeing eye of Horus? Is it some kind of code that the Illuminati uses to mark it's movies so that other Illuminati members can know that the director of the film is "one of them"?

If you might remember, in "2001: A Space Odyssey" near the end when Dave is flying through space and dimensions, it keeps showing a close up of his eye changing colors. Likewise, you also see a zoom in of the eye changing colors in the first two Zeitgeist movies as well. Why is that? Why do so many films all throughout time feature a close up of the eye? What's up with that?
