Resistance is keeping Lebanon from falling under Israeli and US domination again, says the deputy secretary general of Hezbollah.
"Now that the Resistance is bringing Lebanon power and triumph, it is no time to regress and return to the past," Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Naim Qassem said in Beirut on Friday.
"The Resistance paved the way for Lebanon's independence and glory…should the resistance stop, Lebanon will fall into the hands of Israel and the US," he warned.
In 2000, guerrilla fighters from Hezbollah, along with the mainly leftist and secular groups in the Lebanese National Resistance Front, liberated southern Lebanon, under Israeli occupations since 1982.
The Islamic movement also repelled Israeli attacks on villages in the south of Lebanon in the summer of 2006. Israeli forces failed to gain any remarkable achievement in the 33-day war despite wide destruction of Lebanese infrastructures.
Hezbollah popularity soared among the Lebanese last July, after Samir Kuntar and four other Lebanese freedom fighters in Israeli prisons were released in return for two captive Israeli soldiers.
The Hezbollah leader criticized efforts by rival factions aimed at reaching a compromise with the Israeli regime trough 'diplomatic channels'.
"[Your] diplomacy has led to extension of (Israeli) occupation and violation of the Lebanese rights in the region," Qassem said, adding that 60 years of Israeli rule over the occupied territories was a result of the concessions Beirut has made.
The senor Hezbollah official said those, who oppose to resistance are seeking power to control Lebanon's politics, economy and culture, as well as Israel's stability which would be made possible at the expense of Palestinians' rights.
There are only two set of policies in the region: The policies of the US and Israel, and those of the resistance. One cannot claim neutrality while following the US, he added.
