A THIRTEEN-year-old boy has become a father with his 15-year-old girlfriend but isn't sure how they will cope financially, because he doesn't know what the word means.

Boy dad Alfie Patten yesterday admitted he does not know how much nappies cost — but said: “I think it’s a lot.”

Baby-faced Alfie, who is 13 but looks more like eight, became a father four days ago when his girlfriend Chantelle Steadman gave birth to Maisie Roxanne, The Sun reports.

He told how he and Chantelle, 15, decided against an abortion after discovering she was pregnant.

When asked how he is going to cope financially, Alfie replied, bemused, "What's financially?"

The shy boy, whose voice has not yet broken, said: “I thought it would be good to have a baby.

“I didn’t think about how we would afford it. I don’t really get pocket money.”

“When my mum found out, I thought I was going to get in trouble. We wanted to have the baby but were worried how people would react.

“I didn’t know what it would be like to be a dad. I will be good, though, and care for it.”

His father Dennis Patten, 45, said: “He could have shrugged his shoulders and sat at home on his Playstation. But he has been at the hospital every day.”

Maisie was conceived after Chantelle and Alfie — just 12 at the time — had a single night of unprotected sex.

A fourth grader was concealing her pregnancy from teachers and classmates till the end of April

Doctors of one of Moscow's maternity hospitals have an extraordinary patient: an eleven-year-old girl is 30 weeks pregnant. The girl's only relatives – a grandmother and her 14-year-old boyfriend – often visit the little girl at the hospital.

The girl, named only as Valentina, a fourth grader, was concealing her pregnancy from teachers and classmates till the end of April. School teachers say that she started wearing loose tops - that is why no one at school could see that a child was bearing a child. The secret was unveiled later, when Valentina did not feel well at classes. When the girl was hospitalized, she never appeared at school again, the Moskovsky Komsomolets reports.

”The girl is not ready for childbirth either psychologically or physically. It is very hard for a child's organism to deal with such adult experience as pregnancy. The girl is having problems with kidneys. The underage mother is expecting a boy: the fetus is already 1300 grams heavy, which is relatively enough even for a grownup woman,” doctors say.

The would-be mother is an orphan; the girl is being raised by her grandmother. “The family of the baby's father lives in another city, in Astrakhan. The boy visited Moscow with his parents when he was twelve,” Valentina's grandmother said. “Of course I noticed that my girl was not feeling good. She started having nausea more than usual, although I originally missed it out of my attention, because Valentina is allergic to vegetables and fruit,” the woman added.

The headmaster of Valentina's school said that she would do her best to let the girl complete her secondary education, after she gives birth to her child. “Underage parents are not allowed to get married. The Russian law allows to do it from the age of 18 only. The girl will not have a right to raise the baby all by herself. She will not be entitled to receive any benefits either: she can obtain mother's status from the age of 16, when she can be considered responsible for her child's life,” Doctor of Medical Sciences, Mikhail Vinogradov said.

A similar incident of underage pregnancy was registered last year in Ukraine. Bogdana Korenkova, a sixth grader, became a mother at the age of eleven. Bogdana's mother, 28-year-old Larisa, apparently the world's youngest grandmother, had no place to live, after she was asked to move out of the flat that she rented. The young woman went to the city administration, but she was advised to give the child away to orphanage, Ivanovo-press website reports.

The underage mother was determined to keep the baby. The girl said that she would never give the baby away to anybody. The Ukrainian child-mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy by Cesarean section. It took 20 minutes for the operation to last.

”It became a unique occurrence indeed. The baby boy is absolutely healthy. He is a beautiful and quiet child,” a doctor said.

Such premature pregnancy is extremely rare in medical practice. Extremely early childbirth was registered in 1910, when a couple of Chinese children became world's youngest parents: the father was nine years and the mother was eight.

A six-year-old girl from the USSR became world's youngest mother in 1930. The record was beaten in 1939, though, when five-year-old Lina Medina from Peru became a mother

I don't think kids should be having sex at that age but curiosity and hormones will get the better of them if left to it. I personally don't see it as the end of the world for the kids because they can probably still do whatever they want in life it'll just be slightly harder than it would have been before the baby.

I certainly don't agree to kids being taken away from their homes for no extreme reason (ok if there is physical/emotional abuse etc) but in this case some helpful guidelines might have been useful. Reading between the lines today looking at more newspaper articles about this it seems to focus very heavily on the fact that benefits are going to be relied upon in the upbringing of the children and seemed to be pressing for children to be put onto long term contaceptives by GP's who will get extra funding for this.

I would say that the reason for the "outrage" is because the mainstream media are programming and manipulating our minds so that we feel the said outrage. No, technically there has never been a heterosexual age of consent for males.
The original law of 1275 says something like "It shall be deemed illegal to ravage a maiden who is not of age" and at the time it was twelve. When the law was changed to thirteen and then sixteen, boys were never included. However it is possible to fall foul of the law if an much older female has sex with a male who is classed as a minor.

Which it how it should be, in my opinion. Sex is a physically, emotionally, and mentally joyful natural thing for humans that is fun and rewarding, healthy, and should be encouraged as such. To me, the 'very' problem is treating it actually in treating it otherwise. And approaching it in the former way is to educate youngsters about it in the right way that will make them fully aware of how to do it safely and openly discuss any issues with parents if need be (such as contraception), rather than doing it is in secret and ending up a dad at age 13. It's the old prudishness in British society about youngsters being sexual,that causes the problems we're seeing and that causes the idiotic Sun newspaper to call it a symptom of 'Broken Britain'. To them, it's broken because youngsters that age are having sex. No, it if it's broken it's because they can't accept that youngsters want to and will have sex. Youngsters can't talk to their parents or others about it in our country the way they can in Europe proper, and that is the only way in which Britain is "Broken" over this, in my opinion. Of course, this won't occur to either society of government, which will just use this opportunity to become even more conservative over the issue.

The family of 13-year-old Alfie Patten have said he should take a DNA test to prove he is the father of his girlfriend's baby, after two more teenagers claimed they could be responsible.

The schoolboy was reported to be Britain's current youngest father last week after Chantelle Steadman, 15, gave birth to 7lb 3oz daughter Maisie.

However, it has now emerged that two other boys, aged 14 and 16, claim they could have fathered the child.

Chantelle's neighbours in Eastbourne, Sussex, have also alleged that at least four boys had been allowed to spend the night in her room.

The schoolgirl and her mother, Penelope, 38, have insisted the claims are false.

Alfie, who stands just 4ft tall, also defended her.

He told The People: "Other stupid boys are lying, saying bad things, like they have slept with Chantelle too.

"But I am the only boyfriend she has had and we've been together for two years, so I must be the dad.

"When she found out she was having a baby, I asked her 'Am I the dad?' and she went 'Yeah' so I believe her.

"I didn't know about DNA tests before, but Mum explained it's when they do a swab in your mouth and it tells you if you're the dad.

"So, if I have that, they can all shut up. But I don't really care what people say. And I don't like them being bad about Chantelle."

However, some members of Alfie's family are questioning the paternity and have suggested he should have a DNA test.

His father Dennis, 45, a vehicle fitter who has eight other children, told The People: "A DNA test is the only way to settle this once and for all.

"I kept asking if she was sure because I thought a boy of his age wasn't capable of conceiving.

"But then these other lads have come out of the woodwork claiming they have gone with Chantelle too.

"I am not saying I believe them and I don't want to blacken the girl's reputation, but we have to know for sure – for Alfie, for her and for that baby."

It is also claimed that Alfie's mother Nicola Patten, 43, who has split from his father, would like him to take the test to settle the issue.

His aunt, Julie Patten, told the Sunday Mirror: "Nicola is distraught. She told me she wants a DNA test to prove if Alfie is the father.

"She wants the truth to come out now rather than months or years down the line after Alfie has bonded with the baby and become a proper dad.

"The family think Chantelle has had at least two boyfriends before Alfie."

Richard Goodsell, 16, a trainee chef, has claimed he often shared a bed with Chantelle over a period of three months around the time she became pregnant.

His mother Barbie-Jayne, 35, also backs his story

He told the News of the World: "I know I could be the father. Everyone thinks I am. My friends all tell me that baby has my eyes– even my mum thinks so.

"Only a DNA test is going to sort this out properly. If I am the father, I have the right to know."

Tyler Barker, 14, also claims to have had a relationship with Chantelle, who appears much older than her years.

He told the News of the World: "I slept with Chantelle in her bed about nine months ago and I'm really worried I could be the father.

"I hope it's not me. All my mates have been teasing me about it but this isn't funny, it's serious."

The news that 4ft Alfie conceived baby Maisie when he was only 12 renewed calls for better sex education for the nation's children.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: "I think all of us would want to avoid teenage pregnancies."

Children's Secretary Ed Balls said; "You look at that young lad being a dad when he is so young - and also the teenage girl - and you think it's not right, this looks so terrible.

"Our first reaction has got to be to make sure that the young lad, the teenage mum and the baby get all the support they need.

"And it's also vital that we do everything we can to make sure that these kind of teenage pregnancies don't happen in the future."

He was asked how he would cope financially and he didn't know what the word meant. His so called girlfriend looked a lot older and laughed mockingly at him when he goofed about the question. What worries me is that both these children, sorry three children have been paraded around the world by the press .
We can all be quick to label others,but measures should be in place to protect all parties and steps should be taken to understand why this young girl feels it necessary to put it about
