I'm gonna Photoshop that picture and change the water bottle into a stubbie of VB.

I'll make a fortune off the t-shirt sales alone.

"You can get it changing a tyre,
Or surviving a fire...
...matter of fact, I've got it now."

The truest 'Aussie moment' in this clip is the one you wont see on the TV and that's when the firefighter says: "Watch this, once he gets hydrated he'll rip me to fucking shreds!"
:D :D :D

Yes a touching feeling to it but apparently the video was made before the major bushfire and that event was due to back burning.

^^ Does it matter? The koala is burnt and dehydrated and getting a drink. It's sweet. Shut up :P

It does matter if the koala received burns due to backburning, but then maybe you're a sadist.

^^ Where's your source? But then maybe you're full of shit.

edit: You're right, it was a backburning. I retract.

But isn't backburning beneficial in helping stop the fire spread?

Also, don't call me a sadist! You so don't know me at all :P The fact that I like to see the poor koala get a drink is hardly sadistic.

Yes it's beneficial, but killing or burning animals isn't.

Maybe you should think what you type.

What if it stops a fire spreading and saves tenfold more?

Maybe you should think what you type.

Telling you to shut up doesn't make me a sadist. An impatient bastard, sure, but not a sadist. And I said that because you sooo missed the point. It's a sweet picture and it makes me smile. Poor koala. Regardless of how it happened.

Anyway let's stop derailing the thread.

The media has come out today and said reports this happened before the fires where incorrect and the koala was indeed found after the fires of Sat 7 Feb. The CFA were backburning but the koala was found in an area already burnt by the fires.

I'm amazed at the hype this created. There are humans helping animals all the time.

yep indeed so doesnt hurt to see another rather than one where the animals are badly treated :)

Difference here is that millions of people have seen it.

What makes it emotional is when you realise a raging fire (moving at a rate of 200m/minute) has destroyed everything in it's path and you come across a bewildered koala just sitting there among the burnt out trees.

If you where there, you'd be in tears too...

Well this is different, as the Koala was totally a wild animal and injured and it let the guy come up to it and didn't try and climb the tree to escape, as it would have naturally done. I have helped injured animals and they always try and escape. That's natural.

It has been interesting and touching that during the heatwave in Vic prior to the fires, a number of stories/pictures came out of koalas reaching out to humans for help, eagerly taking water from them by hand etc. It's beautiful to see.
