You be the judge on this one. During the past 18 years Vancouver had held an annual event that always drew huge crowds. At first it was sponsored by Big Tobacco but due to the continuing pressure by Health Advocates (?) it was then taken over by a consortium of local businesses to finance and organize. Held at the height of summer three countries would vie for the title of World's Best Pytrotechnicians. The event has been cancelled as of 2008 citing financial difficulties. The Celebration of Lights as it was called was a free event and drew people from all over the area in a cross section of the populace from the well-to-do with their own yaughts to eastsiders. The natural amphitheater shape of the landscape, the gentle west winds blowing in off the ocean it made a perfect staging area for anyone wanting to do some 'experimenting'. I wondered if they could resist...and they didn't let me down.
