YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
I just watched a re-run of an episode of mythbusters. The episode i watched was about coke and mentos. You all know what happens if the mentos goes in the coke bottles, but thats not what i wanted to mention.
I dont know if you see can open the link i posted because my youtube page is acting up so i couldnt watch it,but adam is finding out wich ingredient makes the coke burst out,he uses caffien aspartame and another substance.
To get to the point, while mixing the ingredient he wheres a chemical mask the whole time, now why would he put on a mask for something we eat and drink daily??? he even says when hes mixing caffiene with the soda that the quantity that hes mixing can kill you.....doesnt that say enough???Thats what i wanted to tell you guys, leave any comment you want.
EDIT:The link is deactivated somehow, does it work with you guys???

The mask could be to stop the stuff getting into his eyes, what is good for the mouth sometimes isn't good for the eyeball, just my theory.

He's working with pure caffeine. 100 milligrams of the stuff is more than is in your average cup of espresso. Inhaling the dust stirred up by pouring the stuff could very well get enough caffeine in his bloodstream to cause heart palpitations.
Aside from that, he works with a lot of nasty chemicals in his line of work. He's probably used to just donning a mask whenever he pours something he wouldn't want in his lungs.
Toxicity is in the dosage. This is why studies involving "micro dosing" of chemicals are not very useful for determining the toxicity of larger doses.

They tested that with a pig's stomach in the episode. The act of drinking the cola causes enough gas to escape for it to be harmless in the stomach.

Ive never cared for the mythbusters guys.
They did a supposed debunk of the fake moon landing theory.
I dont know if we did or didnt, but I do know that the arguements they made about gravity and hopping ect were ridiculous and proved nothing, while a community of sleepers sat there applauding them.
It's at the pointwhere anything beyond grade 9 science and these guys can say "X" isnt possible because my handlbar mustache is well groomed": the crowd will just clap.
In fact it's a result of them I was in the worst argument ive ever had on youtube with a total complete buffoon called 'spreadingthemuse'
In addition to total ignorance, it drove me nutts he had the word 'muse' in his name whilst being that dumb.

The show really is more fun when they stick to stuff that's more easily tested. Part of the point of the program though is that high school chemistry and science is enough to debunk a lot of urban legends.
There's a much better debunking of the Moon hoax claims at the Bad Astronomy site.
http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/tv/foxapollo.html
It sticks just to the claims made in one FOX special though, so doesn't address claims not made in that particular special.

Youre right, but i think it says allot of the stuff they put in coke and such,if it was healty they wouldnt were a mask.If they would pour flower in a bowl they wouldnt take a gas mask,a filter cap maybe but a gas mask, cmon!to me it just shows that the stuff thats being put in coke is pure poison, and nobody wonders why they where a gas mask

Well, no, the contents of Coke aren't really god for you at all. They did an episode where they addressed the various rumored uses for Coke and it actually makes a pretty good degreaser. When I was in high school, one of my friends discovered that diet coke removed the cheep theater guild greasepaint better than soap or cold cream.
To the best of my knowledge, he never drank Coke again. :)
However, the quantities of these chemicals in coke are fairly small by volume. Even then, drinking half a gallon of coke can cause heart palpitations in some people. Remember that it wasn't that long ago that Coke was still sold in 8 ounce bottles. That's a tiny volume compared to today's over consumption.
I prefer Dr Pepper anyway. :)

LOL at the Dr Pepper
but i still dont understand why people are so ignorant, there are a million of viewers that watch mythbusters and not 1% thinks about why they are using gas masks???

What makes you think that?
How do you know people didn't think about the fact that Adam was using a mask when handling food ingredients?
It's just as likely that people thought "Well, that stuff must be pretty toxic at that concentration" and didn't think about it beyond that. I think most people know Coke isn't good for them. They just choose to ignore that fact, the same way we do with eating too many sweets and not getting enough exercise.
Choosing that which is bad for us does not mean we don't KNOW it's bad for us.

People know that its bad,but they dont know how bad, they just think,ow drinking coke makes me fat, there arent any vitamins in it,the regular stuff, they dont know how toxic the stuff is in coke,if i was a sheep and i would see adam handle aspartame and such with a gas mask i would raise some questions, even if it could come in the lungs and such, like i said, you dont treat flower like its toxic, and it can come in your lungs and eyes to.

Thanks Haley's I will check it out, I find those guys to be a sideshow wether or not urban myths are easily debunked or not.
Any idea on what the mythbusters had to say about 9/11?
That will tell me much I need to know about them.

Realistically it's far too hot button a topic for their program. Besides, most of the "evidence" for a conspiracy is based not upon actual data, but ignorance about how buildings react to extreme circumstances, like being smacked into by a frigging huge aircraft.
It'd be too easy to debunk and piss too many people off to be worth doing.
