An internet video featuring a dare-devil snowboarder being towed by a car along an icy high street at speeds of up to 20mph was branded as 'totally brainless' today.

The youngster weaves slalom-style, across the snow-covered road, gripping onto a length of rope attached to a car full of his friends.

Passers-by gaze in astonishment as the thrill-seeker comes dangerously close to colliding with parked vehicles.
Dangerous: The youth is towed at speed down the road in Hungerford, Berkshire, while on a snowboard. The stunt was branded 'totally brainless'

Dangerous: The youth is towed at speed down the road in Hungerford, Berkshire, while on a snowboard. The stunt was branded 'totally brainless'

The beaming headlights of trailing traffic are shown getting dangerously close to the youngster, as his friends urge him on and film the stunt on their mobile phones.

The astonishing night-time clip filmed in Hungerford in Berkshire, was uploaded on social networking site Facebook yesterday and has attracted hundreds of viewers.

Police and local officials said the irresponsible boarder was lucky to be alive and slammed his actions as totally idiotic and brainless.

'It is quite shocking and totally irresponsible,' Mayor of Hungerford Peter Harries said.

'If he had come off of his board he would have been seriously injured and was lucky not to be hit by another car - he passed three junctions without even stopping.

'The lad is just showing off and he needs to realise that he could have killed himself. It is just brainless and stupid.'

Once the attention-seeking youth gets to the end of the lit high street, the car does a sharp u-turn and continues back, while he snakes across the freezing road.

MP for West Berkshire, Richard Benyon, said: 'There are loads of places for people to have fun in the snow. Hungerford High Street on a snowboard being towed by a car is not one of them.'

The identity of the snowboarder - who is dressed in ski salopettes and a hooded ski jacket - is still not known and police were expected to be examining the footage.

FFS... This guy is just having a laugh, not harming anyone.

What I think is 'totally brainless' is the opinions of the 'Fun Police'. Just shut-up and get on with your job of collecting fines for your Corporation.

Anybody else read between the lines of the 16 yr old that died out sledging recently?

in other words..."hey, don't let you kids out and PLAY, don't let your kids go out and do stuff that we use to do when we were kids and were perfectly fine...stay in, stay in, stay in...."

Any darn f*****g excuse to put in the media re. seperation of the masses and keeping the kids indoors..

That's so hot. I'd have his babies.

Though it's amazing he didn't get slammed by a car going across an intersection. I'll bet his face would have been red if that'd happened.

20mph? What's that, 32kph? Shit, people cycle faster than that. Some dogs run as fast or even faster.

its just a novelty piece, not a big conspiracy imo.

think about it: you dont read about skaters/bikers doing mad tricks in traffic, its just not interesting enough & doesnt work in print.. but car-assisted snowboarding on UK roads - thats novelty, thats sensational... its newsworthy.

Obviously their not going to do a positive piece - it is the mail afterall ;) so the angle is going to be moany/disapproving/NIMBY etc. Why does there have to be an angle? there just does, Its the mail: a slick operation that knows its target audience very well.

There are some really stupid people though who post on lookatmetube. I remember a motorcyclist filmed himself going about 200k's down a busy highway in Australia and then posted it on Youtube. Very silly as doing those speeds he could have killed a few people, not to mention himself, but also it's very easy for the authorities to find out the identity of this person on Youtube.

Kiddos are crazy I tell ya! lol
Brain-less indeed.... Isn't what TBTB intended anyway??

But seriously let 'em have their fun.
Some of the above posts reminded me of this story from a few weeks or so ago about the police being called and a few arrested from a snowball fight on a college campus... it was apprently getting "too aggressive".
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Authorities at a North Carolina college say a huge snowball fight got out of control, forcing campus police to use pepper spray on some students to contain the rowdy crowd.

Police were called to a dormitory at East Carolina University three times Tuesday as hundreds of students pelted each other with snow, The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported.

The college is located in the eastern part of the state which doesn't get snow often, but a rare storm dropped several inches on campus that day.

Police said some students were getting too aggressive and an officer used pepper spray on a group that rushed officers trying to make an arrest.

Junior Brandon Davis said "it all started in good nature, but then people were throwing them as hard as they could at each other."

Junior Matt Lunchick said an officer chased and arrested a student after being hit in the back with a snowball.

Damn kids and their snowballs OUTSIDE. Next up Nitendo (spl?) will have virtual snowballing.
Anyways, heres a link to that story.

lol where i grew up skitching was being towed by a car in wet weather till the towed persons feet start hydroplaning
which is well more dangerous than either the snowboard thing or the snowball thing (we are all alive)
i also skied into a car at what could be said to be about 20 mph when i was like 15
though it was due to black ice at night and i was going way faster than i should have on a part of the slope closed to night skiing by a parking lot
as long as the car is not moving too it is not too bad
i had two bruised ribs:D

Lucky to be alive at 20 mph, give me a break.

I wana know which moronic police and local official actually made this statement.

Several Junctions. That probably means street ends late an night when there s hardly any traffic about.

Now if he was doing 70 mph down the motorway they could say these things for sure.

Just a guy having a laugh in the snow with minimal risk to himself is what they should be saying.

From what I saw about that death it looks like brainless teenage girls who dont know what they were doing.

There was a barb wire fence halway down the hill FFS and they went down on some sort of heavy car bonnet. Anyonw with half a brain wouldnt do that.

Your right about the media portraying it that way, dont go out and have fun etc.

What the media should have said is brainless teenagers die and get hurt cause they used a car bonnet on a very steep hill with 2 fences on it.
