View Full Version : Email to my local MP

Thought I would see what the local MP has to say. This is my latest email to him:
Can I ask a question? we often see the banks being bailed out using public money but why do the public get no say in how OUR money is spent?
Given that the circumstances will be with us for a long time and we will be forced to contribute to the farce why should we be forced to accept the burden of the stupidity of greedy business people? we do not get choices in what taxes we will pay and we do not get a choice in how the money is spent. I think another word for such a situation is extortion. How does this fit in with a democracy where the views of the people are supposed to matter rather than them being treated like some annoying burden or hindrance. When we are paying increased tax rates, against our will, and suffering by having less money for ourselves the wealthy bankers will not be worrying about their dispoable income. What are we getting in return for them using our money?

I hardly think that will matter as I really dont expect a response. You never know though!!
I dont think MP are interested in addressing people unless it is going to look good for them in front of the public.

I’ll consider this but I’m not too confident after my last meeting with the local MP. It ended with you’ll just have to move on rather than getting it sorted and getting justice.
- But I've got to keep a promise!

Contacting local politicians is one of the luxuries we still have.
Most people don't realise that it is our NON PARTICIPATION that leads us to this mess. I mean, why would politicians stand up for the people, when the people don't interact with them in any way. Only the lobbyists do.
And this is one of the problems with world government; that you will not have local access to anyone of power. It's already bad enough with the centralised Behemoth in Brussels for the EU.

This is something i have been thinking of doing for a while, however i'm not the most eloquent writer, and there is so much to write i get a headace knowing where to start.
If anyone has a well written example with good clear points people couple just copy and send to their local mp's i think it would bve great.
Marpats looks like a good place to start.
so anyone ?

Problem is he’s become more of a friend than a MP! At one point I was talking about rugby league to his assistant!

Thanks for the support people.
I do think politicians get complacent because people tend not to tackle them head on. I think too many people are just not interested in the world and what is going on. They are more interested in Eastenders and football, which are nothing but fantastic tools of distraction.
It is my opinion that if loads of people battered the politicians and MP with emails that something may start to move but the sheer lack of public interest makes them feel safe. They are content to use the carrot and stick approach and the majority of the disinterested public oblige them by following.

When I first got into this I emailed MP's, MEP's and the PM. What an utterly futile gesture that turned out to be. I now see it as naivity.

Do MPs still have "surgeries" that are open for their constituents?
They did 20 years ago and I went to one and talked to my local MP (I'd also written him letters). I had the feeling at the time that he wasn't listening, but I was sooooooo naive.
Face to face makes a difference I reckon, and even better if there are are a few of you there...

They do still have surgeries and I intend attending mine very soon with a whole heap of questions. Good luck to him!
As for emailing, waste of time as they can just claim they didn't receive it. Send a letter to their House of Commons address (easy to find on the web, infact the BBC have a section on their website to find your MP which has all their details). Make sure you send it recorded and then they have no excuse to ignore you.
Take back your power one step at a time and eventually we will be back in control. The system is in place to let us do it, we are just too apathetic, preoccupied or lazy to actually do it!

I recently wrote emails to Conservative Party, Labour, SDP, BNP, UKIP, etc ... essentially a request for positions on key policies.
All have been ignored; except for UKIP, which replied to selected questions - not all.
I also sent an email to Jacqui Smith on the issue of ID cards.
I send a read receipt with all emails.
The notification I received 1 week later was that it had been "deleted without being read".
Email them, by all means.
However, they do not care.
They do not bother themselves with the trivialities of familiarising themselves with what we think.
Didn't you read the memo?
They will tell us what we think, at a time of their choosing.

But does their stance mean that people should stop trying? if people give in then is that not what they want?
Last time I sent one it was on why I will not vote labour. I recevied an acknolwdgement from his secretary but no reply from the MP. No suprise really as he was not going to convince me otherwise. Probably thought that it would not be worth replying.

"if people give in then is that not what they want?"
It's not 'giving in' it's realising the truth. There is no representation and there is no democracy, they are criminals with mob enforcers and the whole thing is a protection racket backed by murdering scum.
The only question is how and when.

I have had a good response from every letter I have ever sent my MP. It depends on the person though.
