i can see the symbolism in the album (a spaceman came travelling was patently obvious to me even as a child, also 'just another poor boy', also loaded with christian symbolism), but i listened to this album at a very special time in my life, it was just at that point where i started becoming aware of the world around me, but before puberty and all the harder things that come later, it will always be a special album to me.

Me too :) I loved thew spaceman and the 'painter' or artist song. When the guys wife falls for 'that painter' ....lol the way he spews that line in the song is classic!

Banned really...? I lived in SA until i was 26. I was about 10-13 i think when me dad listened to that album so it must have been before that, when it was banned.

my mistake, the song spanish train was almost banned in south africa :

The title track is a story about a train carrying the souls of the dead to the Underworld. Jesus and the Devil are playing Poker - gambling with the souls. Naturally, the Devil cheats and wins the game. The song finishes with the stanza:

"Far away, in some dark recess,
The Lord and the Devil are now playing Chess.
The Devil still cheats and wins more souls,
as for the Lord - he's just doing his best."

The song was deemed blasphemous in South Africa, and a ban was ordered. A&M records sued to get the ban overturned - the suit was eventually successful. However, while the suit was in progress, A&M released the album under the title "Lonely Sky and Other Stories" (without "Spanish Train"). This album is considered a collector's item today - copies are extremely rare.

LOL Christ de Burgh Lime. :D I'm no officianado on this guy, but when ever he used to be on TV, I'd try listen but get depressed half way through one of his songs. Maybe that's the intention of his songs.

Funny you should say that e.s.. Most of de Burghs songs have a 'heart-strings' element that seems to extract some sort of strong emotion, whether it be depressive emotions, romantic or otherwise. That link I posted to his spaceman Christmas video is a classic example.....and his concerts are said to be extremely 'emotional" affairs also, so I'm fairly certain in my own mind he's being used as a means to raise human emotional energy that can be harnessed in the manner Matt Delooze describes (http://matthew-delooze.blogspot.com/2007/04/answer.html).

It also amazes me that somebody with eyes as cold as de Burgh's has been so sucessful as a romantic singer. I think he's had a LOT of help from high places with his illustrious career, as without wanting to putting too finer point on it, he's not really your average romatic/sex symbol is he? :rolleyes:

Thanks for the info Limelady. It's weird, because I have also done much research on Chris de Burgh myself, most of it was done over a year ago and was sent to Matthew DeLooze.

I'm convinced that Chris de Burgh is definatly involved in freemasonry, there is clearly too much evidence to label this as coincidence.

I'd like to add a few more that you did not mention:


His own record label is called "Ferryman Productions", he had a hit "Don't pay the Ferryman". The Ferryman he refers to is Charon, the ferryman to the underworld on the river Styx.

His daughter, Rosanna Davison, won the Miss World 2003 contest, was this due to connections?

The "de Burgh" family name roots can be traced back to Richard the Lionheart.

His 1989 Best Of album was called "Spark to a Flame"

His 1975 album "Spanish Train and Other Stories" has a cover artwork with a demonic hand.

Princess Diana's favourite song was "Lady in Red" by Chris de Burgh, and was known to have a friendship with him, and was possibly a friend of the royal family.

it didn't take too much to get banned in south africa circa mid-70's to early eighties.

I remember kids on my school bus from some other school getting 'jacks'(Cained) for singing pink floyds 'another brick in the wall', this was about 1980.
