View Full Version : Had a run in with the police last night

I live in Sweden and was driving minding my own business when I was pulled into a layby which had around 5 or so police officers there testing for alcohol. This isn't unusual and you have to comply with it under Swedish law. The only problem I have with it is that I am constantly being stopped by the police "randomly" because I drive an old Saab 9000 1993. This is car is apparently often stolen, which is the explanation I have been given for the reason why I seemed to get pulled over and breathalised with a licence check every so often!
I was naturally a bit nervous because every time I end up getting stopped it seems to take them 10-15 minutes to check my driving licence because it's a UK one and I always end up arguing with them about how ridiculous it is.
As usual, I passed the breath test with flying colours and then the female officer walks away and gets her male colleague. They then ask if I've been doing any drugs. I said that I haven't. He looked at me and said "your pupils are very dilated" and insisted that was clear sign of drug use and the fact I was nervous made him suspect me of something.
Of course, ladies and gentlemen, in a society where the police can do "whatever they want" because "If i've nothing to hide, i've nothing to fear! :)" I shouldn't be nervous at all.
I said to the guy that the reason I was nervous is because I am always getting pulled over by the police and I always end up arguing with them. I am also worried that because I get tested so regularly that I might get a false positive reading some day. So I know where this is going. He starts saying stuff like, "if i were to take you to the station to get tested for stuff like PCP what would the result be?". I said the result the would be negative and you'd be wasting both my time and your time.
To cut a long story short we had this constant back and forth of him accusing me of being on drugs and me saying that I was starting to become quite offended at this because I barely drink ever, I don't even smoke and the last thing I'd be thinking of doing is drugs.
Towards the end, the conversation started to turn and I started telling him that he was beginning to abuse my rights to freedom. That he has no business harassing me and that I've not committed any crimes. I then drop a bit of a clanger on him citing the fact that I routinely meet the head of Gothenburgs traffic police on the train and that the numerous occasions I had driven him from the train station into town the chief of the traffic police never suspected me of using PCP. "You know him, do you?" he replied. "Yes" i said. He went a little quieter after that. Then he started giving me the "this is for the safety of the community" bit and how he's only doing his job and blah blah blah. I said to him "where were the police when my office was burgled 4 times in two months? Where were the police when a friend of mine reported a rape. Nowhere to be fucking seen, that's where! Yet there's plenty of man power to stand in a lay-by pulling over cars testing drivers."
"You think that's a waste of time, do you?" He said. "Yes, I do actually. I haven't seen any stats on the number of people you actually catch in the process of crime doing this".
He really had no answer to this and then recommended that I write to the police chief to express my views.
To give the officer credit, he was polite and calm throughout the conversation despite the fact I was pissed off and ratty. I said to him, "You know what I am saying is not wrong, don't you. And you know that a lot of people like me feel the same way". He didn't really have an answer for that. He knew damn well what I was saying had a lot of truth in it not matter how he tried to justify his job.
I am not anti-police but I will not sit back and keep quiet and nod my head to make it easier for myself and make them go away faster. In the end they decided just to let me get on with my business and that was that.
The last time I had a run in with them in the same fashion my father was in the car, an ex officer btw :D He said to me, "ooh you're dancing on thin ice there. I am just worried that when you start mouthing off like that they will look or invent things to make a problem for you. You're better off just keeping quiet." I said that i'd rather go through a bit of hassle to prove to them that I am not there to serve them. Nothing to hide means you have everything to fear if you don't play the servants game to them!!!!!!!

theyre just trying to up their quoter ...... the police force is commission based just like selling a house.... more arrests = more points for the said team, higher severity crimes = higher points than a mistermina (dont know how to spell that :o)
my brother is a SGT in the MET in London, & he says they are encouraged to get arrests, if they are called to a domestic for instance & when they arrive the scene is calm, they will try & bait the accused into breaching one of many stupid little laws (just like they tried on you) so they can drag him to the cells for a couple of hours, sometimes even for the night....FOR NOTHING in a lot of cases......
im sure the setup is pretty similar where you are....... sad really :(

Dilated pupils can mean many things, not just drug taking lol
I'm always scared doing alcohol and drug tests, as I'm scared it will give an incorrect reading, and if that's the case then you pretty much have almost no chance of getting off the charges.

Yeah, like when it's dark at night and the police stop you and your eyes open wider to let as much light in as possible. My friends all think it's hilarious. I'm known now as a "PCP Missbrukare". :D

Well the idiot cop was driving in the opposite direction he saw me I saw him brake in my Mirrrors and off I flew and it happened twice so I know he wanted to pull me the prick. I was breaking the law and that is why I quickly got off the main road and took the back streets :D

I too live in sweden and had this happen to me. They forced me to the station and had me pee in a cup arguing that my eyes where "glossy".. what the hell? And yes i was perfectly sober.

I am also worried that because I get tested so regularly that I might get a false positive reading some day.
This is not such an insignificant possibility.
A recent study showed that the little innocent poppy seed, which is sprinkled atop many a fine pastry or included in normal, mundane cooking recipes, has been shown to give "false positives" to drug testing for opiates.
Researchers and officials were then left with the "horror scenario" of thousands of potential "wrongful dismissal" claims from people who had been fired after testing positive from random employee drug tests.

I admire your patience
after the third time I would have been at HQ or some city
agency collaring a Capt. or higher and making a political
statement on needless harrassement and asking for my
plate number to be passed by in future unless I am driving
wildly which I dont anyway but have to give 'em a crumb back .
He would be so put out to get rid of me he would agree
in front of witnesses at which point I would be very
charming and sweet. Role turning is a potent tactic.;)
Here are two points
ONE
at NIGHT the pupils are larger for everyone !
they cant say its drugs in every case so its a dangerous
ploy and such ploys can be dealt with.. its not as if you were
caught wih a screwdriver and hammer and a broken lock on the door!
TWO
keep your camera phone in your pocket when driving and if you are
accused AGAIN stand by the police car to get at least one
officer in the background and take photos of your face showing
your eyes
as many as you are able
keep your battery fed !
take several pics of everything
and of the PD car and your car and the cops
keep a daily newspaper in our car fresh daily
and take pics of the date
put the paper on your car and stand where u can get the
paper and a PD car all in the shot and your plate number
if you do this a couple of times they will not
stop you any more
even when the cops leave keep getting photos of your eyes
and the date on the paper
go to a fast food store and get an employee to take a oics
of your face up close with eyes very clear
and have that employee sign and date the paper while you
take a couple of shots clearly showing the restaurant in
the background and the employee signing the paper and
holding it up
you now have all the proof no one can deny
the performance in front of the cops will probably allay any more stops
but if you ever have to got to a court on any stops you will
have the filed evidence that there was a previous that was BS

Have to watch the police here, I was aware of a car travelling much too close are roadworks about midnight the other week. His lights were set high so I was slightly dazzled and he just sat behind be for about 3/4 of a mile. It was 40 mph and I was wondering whether to drop into 3rd to make the bugger brake but something told me not to do, I often get these niggling warning signs and I am glad I tool notice because my mirror was full of blue lights and it accelerated past. He roared off about 80 into the distance, obviously got a call and was probably more exciting than trying to make someone break the speed limit.
You see, that's what they do, they get behind you, hang onto your bumper and try to push you into going a bit faster. It's a bit of a trick they have as they are desperate for speeding fines at the moment as people tend to drive slower now due to fuel costs.
No doubt with an old car like mine, also a 93 model but a Toyota, they would have been checking tyres, tax, insurance, alcohol, the works. Best to keep frustratingly within the law. If they can't get you for inadvertently breaking the law they will try to tempt you. Of course, that can't be a police car, obviously a boy racer, tailgating, I'll speed up so he won't be as close, big mistake in these parts.

Really simple solution to this one.
Use your brake - HARD - a couple of times.
Either he will back off or he will hit you.
Remember, in ANY car collision, the person who hits from behind is the guilty party. They were obviously following too closely - far closer than driving rules allow. Your insurance policy will also support this; "nose to tail" incidents are always the fault of the car behind.
It does not matter why you braked ... (wasn't there a rabbit or a cat you were having to avoid?) ... the FACT is, if the car following you had been travelling at a legal speed AND at a legal distance; no collision would have occurred.
:D

The police have it sewn up, they will prosecute you for braking with no due reason, if they hit you when your brakes are on the filaments on the bulbs fuse, indication that the brakes were on. People have been prosecuted for braking in from of other vehicles in the past. That's why I tend to keep well away from the police, they collude, invent witnesses, plant things, you name it. Contact only when absolutely necessary, even then...

Mate they're wankers.
I left work the other day i was going to the gym, and totally forgot to put my seatbelt on. So i get down the road and notice this copper bike beside me. Thought nothing of it cause we was at lights and i just thought he was stopping.
He knocked on the window and i rolled it down. He said ' whats wrong with this picture '
I said ' i dunno mate' He said ' your seat belts not on '
'ok mate thanks for letting me know i'll put it on '
' no i gotta give you a ticket '
' no you haven't mate you've told me so you can be nice and let me off '
' Are you telling me how to do my job '
At this point i knew he was a power mad cunt. He pulled me over the other side of the road and stopped traffic all for a seat belt mind you.
' Mate i pulled you over bla bla bla '
' Ok mate so you can let me of its only a seat belt i didn't mean to do it you could be nice '
' No i gotta give you a ticket '
Then all this goverment bollocks followed by him. So i called him a fucking arsewhole. He got in me face and threatened to arrest me. Then procedded to give me a 30 pound fine.
I wanna go to court but i know i can't win no matter what i say. It pisses me of these nazi, insecure, power mad pricks.
Just cause they got an imaginary status, with an imaginary uniform and badge they think they're better than you.

I mean the breaking of those laws that really are an ass. I don't advocate that people should engage in crime that hurts other people. I mean not complying with their system. So if you can screw the taxman then I would definately advocate that. Play the benefits system definately, don't vote, don't fill in any consensus forms, don't register for the vote etc

Having a seat belt on is a requirement of the law. Was this in America? Not many police on bikes over here.

well one day the benefits system won't be there because those at the top would have screwed it for billions. Have you noticed how those indulge in white collar fraud are dealt with and compared that to the way they deal with people who defraud the benefits system?

Yes and with bloody good reason they are given a pittance to live on. Compare that to these city bankers who rip the system off for millions and it is the poor sods at the bottom who are treated in the more draconian manner. BTW it seems to me that you want to preserve the system instead of helping us dismantle it one brick at a time.
