I am thinking of building my own website but i dont really want to pay for one (unless its very reasonable), do you know where i can get a free website domain?

If you have a spare computer and a direct intenet connection.
You can host your own from your IIS explorer page.
Or install linux
Just ask your isp for a fixed ip address.
I used to host my media player online, so I could logon to my music through my mobile phone, online streaming music hmmmm.

no its impossible to get free ones and dont bother signing up for any of those sites that say they're give u a free one because they're only a gimmick.
What the guy above,penquin, said is only good if you want to host your files yourself - you'd still need a domain. If you host your own files you'll need to keep your pc online all the time. People can go to your to your files but they can only access through an IP address.
domain names arent so expensive anyway. Try name.com they're less than 10 dollars a year. And its worth having the professional looking domain for traffic.
However, you can get free subdomains. These are free. Probably the best one is www.110mb.com. You'd get a subdomain like this: www.YOURWORD.110mb.com and they also offer free hosting.
Also check out www.wordpress.org. This is a free blog script that has 1000's of free plugins and themes. Infowars.com is run on a wordpress script

If you are serious about it you should consider paid hosting. You can get that at a reasonable prize. Most of the free hosting have some limitations too it. Have a look at Google Directory (http://www.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Hosting/Free/Personal/) or Google Sites (https://sites.google.com/). SearchTip: ad free web hosting

freewebs and shorturl are free hosting yes, but they dont give u a free domain - they give u a free subdomain which anyone who is serious about a website should be looking for a DOMAIN (www.davidicke.com domain, gu3rr1lla.davidicke.com subdomain).

this isnt a domain either. THis is shortening a domain you already have.
