"The British monarch lives under this illusion that Britain is still a 19th Century superpower and that bestowing titles is something still deemed important."
This is a quote from Mohammad Reza Bahonar, first deputy speaker of Iran's parliament.
So obviously unimportant for him it's causing another load of bollock-fuss with the Muslim world who obviously think they have a say in how things should be done in other countries while not living up to the same standard of rule in their own.
Now, don't get me wrong. I couldn't give two hoots about the Queen and her awards or about Salman Rushdie receiving one. I just hate this hypocrisy and another test by muslim nations to see if we will pander to their constant whining.

The knighthood is in recognition for services to literature right? To my mind this knighthood is a deliberate provocation to wind up our Muslim brothers and sisters again.

The guy had a death sentence on his head. Is that acceptable, from our Muslim brothers and sisters? It's their choice to be wound up about it. The only "crime" he commited against them was representing the prophet muhammed in a way they did not like.
I've got no problems with Muslims. i live in an area occupied by muslims and i get on with my next door neighbour no problems. so this isn't about them and us. it's about the powers that be choosing to create a shit-storm.

No of course it's not right but I was only pointing out another motive for giving him the knighthood in the first place. The crusades have never ended.

Having read the book The Satanic Verses not long after it was released. I could never see what the Muslims where so wound up about. One of the main characters wen't through a kind of shapeshifting experience he grew horns lol.
Anyone remember which parts of the Book up set the religous ones?

Hello, reptilianshapeshifter.
I think the Brits better wake up REALLY FAST and change their policies, othewise one day they will face an invasion of Iran-led Muslim forces.
Just for how long do the Brits plan to piss on Muslim countries and tell them that it's raining?...

The Muslims need to realise if they live a religous lifestyle, then others will not agree with that lifestyle and should be allowed to say what ever they wan't.
If any other religion had books written about it then no one would care. If it upsets the fundamentalist mentallity of the muslims or Jews, which seem to be the only ones who get upset about what others may write about.
Let them get angry they are fools for believing what's in their teachings is the word od God.

I cannot believe Rushdie is getting a Knighthood. What on earth for? Its ridiculous. Obvious ploy to wind Muslims up.
I'm not ashamed of being British... just ashamed of the British establishment. I hope people everywhere come together and realise we have all been manipulated and we will all have to end this.

You can talk about doing things to wind people up, and yes of course it could indeed be that way BUT :
The guy wrote a book and pissed a load of people off. Big freaking deal. Get over it. It's only political pride that "justifies" extreme reactions which is then filtered down to the regular folk who haven't got a brain between them.
Muhammed must have been an awfully sensitive type to be worried about a depiction in a book or some silly cartoons.
People who think it justifies political correctness or tip-toeing around people's believes in the risk that offending them will cause terror attacks need to wake up.

Judging by the reaction it does seem to have upset a few people and perhaps they should not allow themselves to get upset and just ignore it BUT deliberate provocation by the elite has a serious agenda behind it.

http://www.corante.com/mooreslore/archives/images/Salman_Rushdie_Padm_116303a.jpgSalman Rushdie survived the fatwa, he survived a life in hiding, he even survived 9/11, and eventually he got the girl (http://www.n-tv.de/313732.html), beautiful, charming, splendiferous (http://www.askmen.com/women/models_200/224_padma_lakshmi.html) (she even cooks like angel (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/padma_lakshmi/article/0,1974,FOOD_9920_1770158,00.html)), why would she marry an old codger with depression and typing skills?

Johnny Marr from the Smiths used to have a flat in the same block as him, and every day he'd find mail in the hall addressed to Mr Salmon Rushdie. You have thought he'd have told his friends to use a different name, any postman could have made a fortune if they'd wanted
