Hi folks
Have just watched various snippets of Tony Benn speaking on BBC Israel and in public decrying the BBC's refusal to broadcast the DEC appeal for Gaza, good for him - what a man !
Have known for a long while what a good chap he is but am confused by his association with the Club of Rome ... does anyone have any info or opinion about this connection of his. I feel, deep down, that he is genuine but this confuses the hell out of me, most likely because I have not availed myself of all the facts which hopefully someone on this forum will have. Meanwhile, I'll keep researching him for myself.
Bravo to Tony Benn - wish there were more like him in the world. Long live Tony Benn.

The Club of Rome bit gives it away. Controlled opposition.
See G Galloway for more details.

Is this true? I'd like to see a source that shows him being a member of the CoR. If he is, my opinion of him will change big time.

I rate Tony Benn, he believes what he says and for the most part he seems to be pretty spot on. Shame his son is an utter cretin.

I do,too. The way I see it is,even the most fiendish of organisations can have infiltrators working for the greater good. These secret societies exist whether we like it or not and right now the best we can hope for is they will be steered and diverted from courses of evil and destruction by insiders with consciences.

yeah, but watch HIM also. Not long ago he was condemning people for condemning Islamic homophobia, and denying that they--like Iran--are EVEN anti-gay and that they persecute and even EXECUTE gay males!! And he said that a gay lad trying to get refugee status from Iran should not get it.
He said all the protest from the 'left' about it was really anti Islam, and pro war......I couldn't fukin believe this shit so I emailed him, and he replied twice but when I pushed him to answer the POINTS that had been made, and the FACTS of persecution against gays there, he never got back!
I had quite liked him before this, but this irrational and unfeeling shit left me cold!

What precisely is wrong with the Club of Rome, anyone? From what I've seen so far, it's yet anotrher of those shady NGO "think tanks", which apparently has links to the Bilderbergers (which has its tentacles in many organisations). I also note that it's strongly Malthusian, which does seem to be an odd thing for Tony Benn to be involved in if he really is in it.
Anything else?

The Club of Rome is bad news.
I don't know if Benn is in it, as I've yet to see any evidence. If he is, I'd have to question his involvement.

Their open agenda (meaning what they say about themselves on their site and press releases) dovetails very nicely with U.N Agenda 21...like all of these think tanks, really.

Bloodline part of the Wedgewood Darwin clan. Club of Rome wants to eliminate most of us, so it all fits in nicely. Read his wiki bio.

Agreed Benn is genuine and yes his son Hilary is a Nu Labour tit.
I think there were more genuine politicians from that generation, even if we didn't agree with their politics, I think there was more honour amonst that generation, as opposed to the pure sleazy scum that occupy the front benches of today's political parties.
I always liked Shirley Williams; I met her years ago and she was really nice. I can't think of one of today's senior politicians who have any integrity. The only Labour ones who have served under Nu Labour in Government that ever seemed to have an ounce of integrity are all dead, such as Mo Mowlem, Robin Cook or Donald Dewer.

They do what they are told and have been bred for.
Some of you people live on fantasy island.
You live in a democracy of 60 million yet three generations of one family (titled) become MPs. Itīs just a co incidence of course.

The Benn family are aristocrats and are highly privileged, that is hardly a secret. Tony Benn renounced his peerage as Viscount Stansgate so that he could become an MP rather than have a seat in the Lords (he had to get legislation passed in order to do so). He wasn't a "career" left-winger either, he turned to the left after his experience of being in the 1974-79 Labour government, partly because of the EU (then called the EEC), which he has always consistently opposed.
It's certainly possible that he's "controlled opposition" but he doesn't come across to me that way at all.
In my experience he's always been very warm and approachable, without any of the arrogance that many high-profile activists have. He was very patient with me on the occasions I interviewed him as a naive student journalist and was always happy to talk politics with individuals or small groups. If anyone is controlled opposition, I'd put my money on Bruce Kent of CND being one, I've always found him cold and rude.

Tony Benn's trying to tell us that Tzipi Livni is personally dictating BBC policy. This is laughable and it smacks of a limited hangout. Why doesn't he talk about the power and influence of British Jewry, like Friends of Israel and the Zionists within the BBC?

I've just viewed the clip again and he said nothing of the sort. He merely quoted Livni saying there is no humanitarian crisis. He blamed the "Israeli government" and the "Israelis" for dictating BBC policy. Here's the clip:

Livni IS Foreign Secretary so you'd think she'd be the one to deal with the BBC, but that's not the point anyway. What I'm saying is Tony Benn says the "big bosses" at the BBC have been influenced by the Israeli government. The average viewer won't have any idea the BBC is run by Zionists who won't even need word from Israel to know what the right decision is. The viewers won't know what Labour/Conservative/Lib Dem Friends of Israel are either, and I think if people like Tony Benn told them, he'd be doing us all a favour.

Oh I dunno, I found Bruce Kent friendly enough and he posed with my dog during a demo against yet another bombing by Isreal a couple of years ago!
