This is a stepping stone for the introduction of video replays during games. It will slow down the game so that they can have commercial breaks. They are trying to destroy football so that the unity that football brings to a town can be destroyed too. I know alot of you think that football is a distraction (and I agree), but like I said, football also unites people and the PTB dont like that.
Anyway, it's good to see apparently unbiased reporting :) :-

Arsenal FC commercial director Adrian Ford has revealed that the Premier League club is working with Sony to develop an exclusive application for the PSP. The personalised system would allow fans to watch streaming video of any live game, along with data, statistics and action replays of goals or contentious tackles.

The software is now being tested and is expected to roll out within the next 18 months. Sony also has ambitious plans for the future, if the service proves a success. The handheld manufacturer is looking at ways in it could use the PSP software to allow fans to create in-game communities and build networks with fellow Gunners supporters during the game.

Oddly, the service seems to be tailored solely towards fans who are already attending the game. The idea is to offer more to people already in the stadium. "What we are trying to do is pump a variety of different entertainment on to those screens to help you arrive earlier and maybe stay later," said Ford.

That’ll be fine for killing time before matches and during half-time, but it does seem strange to leave out the people that can’t get there to watch the games live. We are loving the idea of thousands of footie fans gawping at their PSPs during a live match though.

The launch of PlayTV on the PS3 proved that Sony has some clever tricks up its sleeve when it comes to streaming live and recorded video to the PSP. Keep an eye out for the fruits of Sony and Arsenal FC’s efforts around the end of the 2009-2010 season.

What a waste of time its only available to people the stadium. I don't think its going to fly myself. Why in the hell are people going to start rewinding video when a game is being played out live in front of them. Oh yeah so 60000 fans can wave their PSPs at the ref when he gets a decision wrong. Seriously though this won't work..

Also stop shouting stuff when he/she gets it right!

Watching the game live and watching the game on TV has big differences.
On TV, it is possible to change the view and have instant replays. People in stadiums dont have much control over this and now they may do. Good idea, but not everyone has a PSP-whatever it is.

You get the equality of the information and technology at home, while the advantage of being there live. A better reason for people to actually go down and watch the match.

So to access this information people have to shell out for a PSP. It's an insane business model really. I agree you get better information at home. I go to matches now and then and i honestly don't think they've even consulted the people who buy the tickets i know most of the people i know wouldn't buy it.

Providing (a PSP) the technology would be a better option to counteract the problem. Not the best if you have to buy a PSP because it is not a need for watching a match, but more a want/luxury.
