Joe Biden's wife on Monday let slip that her husband had his pick of being Barack Obama's running mate or the secretary of state nominee.

Jill Biden's comment came during an appearance with her husband on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," taped at Washington's Kennedy Center. "Joe had the choice to be secretary of state or vice president," she said. Her husband turned to his wife with his finger to his lips and a "Shhhh!" sending the audience into laughter. "OK, he did," Jill Biden said in her defense.

The vice president-elect blushed, grimaced and gave his wife a hug while the audience laughed. Jill Biden said she told him vice president would be better for the family. "If you're secretary of state, you'll be away, we'll never see you," she said.

After the exchange aired, Biden spokeswoman Elizabeth Alexander denied Jill Biden's account. "To be clear, President-elect Obama offered Vice President-elect Biden one job only -- to be his running mate," she said. "And the vice president-elect was thrilled to accept the offer."...

Why would this be such a big deal if it were true anyway?

A very big deal actually...especially if Obama, possibly, even before the election could also have been chosen in this manner...!?

Hmm, I don't see the link.

I'm not questioning you for posting it, but them for wanting to hush it up. Of course Obama's advisors would be negotiating behind the scenes to determine who would best fit what role.

Its like a school play where the children are arguing over who gets to be which character.

Child 1" I wana be chief of staff"
Child 2 "No fair you got to be COS last time"
Child 3 "I wana be VP,please please please miss"
Teacher: Calm down children. Obama you ll play the president, Joe VP, Rahm COS.

Then eventually the audience gets to see the play. What they dont see however is backstage and what goes on there. You certainly wont see the Director on stage for the audience. He s much more comfortable hidden in the wings.

Biden in 2007 interview: I am a Zionist

Barack Obama's new running mate praises Israel In 2007 interview with 'Shalom TV'

WASHINGTON – Senator Joe Biden, who was chosen by Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama to be his running mate in the upcoming US elections, has previously declared himself to be a Zionist. Calling Israel "the single greatest strength America has in the Middle East," he also revealed a Jewish connection in an interview last year.

During the interview conducted by the Jewish 'Shalom TV' Biden said, "I am a Zionist. You don't have to be a Jew to be a Zionist." He also revealed that his son is married to a Jewish woman, of the Berger family from Delaware, and that he had participated in a Passover Seder at their house.

He added that "probably my most poignant Seder memory is not with the Bergers, but what happened right after I came back from meeting Golda Meir (in 1973). I had predicted that something was going on in Egypt. And I remember people talking about what it meant to them if Israel were actually defeated."

Biden presented himself as a friend to Israel, which he referred to as the US' greatest Middle East ally.

"Imagine our circumstance in the world were there no Israel. How many battleships would there be? How many troops would be stationed?" he asked.

He also called comments about Israel's connection to the war in Iraq "insulting", explaining that "if tomorrow, peace broke out between Israelis and Palestinians, does anybody think there wouldn't be a full-blown war in Iraq?"

Regarding the terror attacks in Israel, Biden said the Sept. 11 attacks made American parents feel what Israeli parents have been feeling. "The difference between now and before 9/11," he said, "is that many Americans can taste what it must feel like for every Israeli mother and father when they send their kid out to school with their lunch to put them on a bus, on a bicycle or to walk; and they pray to God that cell phone doesn't ring." On the day of the 9-11 attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked what the attacks would mean for US-Israeli relations. His quick reply was: "It's very good…….Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)"
