I thought that I would share this with you all :-

I went swimming in a river one summer about 5 years ago and I got athlete's foot soon after and I have had it ever since. Caniston Cream worked once or twice and then it suddenly stopped having an effect. My personal hygiene is very good.

I have tried many things to cure it. FINALLY, I think I have found an answer - PEPPERMINT OIL (essential oil)

In the shower i get some peppermint oil and rub it into the effected areas and it seems to have worked! It only took about 3 applications and it seems to have killed the thing that causes it.

WARNING : From my experience, peppermint oil can burn most parts of your body (or at least it FEELS like it is burning or icy cold). Your toes and the bottoms of your feet are tougher than the rest of your body and therefore are not easily "burned".

I tried it and it didnt work for me.

I also tried pouring a can of pepsi over my foot and then bathing it in the pepsi. That worked to some extent.

The Peppermint Oil worked a miracle :)

I think vinegar is supposed to be good for dealing with fungi, although I haven't ever tried it.

I am gonna have to try peeing on myself again in the future (if necessary). I must have done it wrong the first time.

You must have one hell of a strong upward aim.

Good job, I'll keep that in mind. If the oil works, peppermint tea would be great also. Oh and since athlete's foot is fungus (from what I recall), baking soda (not baking powder) sprinkled in the shoes or socks, and/or taken internally will work too.

Peeing onto your feet in the shower works as well.

Seriously.

I have tried it the last week or so (peeing on my foot in the shower) cos my athletes foot started to come back again, and the pee definitely DOES work too. So dont bother buying any peppermint oil (except for emergencies when peeing on yourself is innapropriate).
Btw, I previously said that I had tested out urine as a solution to athletes foot and said that it didnt work for me, but I apologise because it DOES work. I'm not sure if the cure is "permanent" though. I think that I had tested the pee out on general "spots" (not on my foot) to see if it got rid of them and it didnt. I dont think that I tried it on my athletes foot previously, I was mistaking it for the lemon juice which I DID try out on my foot and it didnt work (seriously).

So thanks Comawhite for pointing me in the right direction.

Well my athlete's foot did come back again.
I have since got rid of it again by very deeply rubbing in Hemp (seed) cream. So far it's been the most effective of all the things I have used so far. My athlete's foot has ben gone for about a week now.

Why are people getting this in the first place?

I used to have it a lot when I was younger. Having worked on my feet for many hours in the past I recommend 2 things.

Get air to the feet as much as possible.

Never wear a pair of shoes for more than one day. Air or dry spare pairs on alternate days.

(Also washing between toes thoroughly is a good idea, once or twice a day).

If I have open shoes on all the time, I'll never get it. In fact, I haven't had it for years.

This is just me, other people might have low immune systems etc..

I would try a product topically called MMS which is a chlorine dioxide compound, and is powerfully anti microbial, anti fungal, and anti bacterial in nature.

You can read other peoples experience on the blog found at www.mmshealthyforlife.com and purchased at www.mmshealthy4life.com

See what you think...

Hope this helps...

I don't think it is anything to do with the peppermint. It is the oil blocking off oxygen to the bacteria/ fungus. Olive oil works a treat. Just spread a good amount on feet after washing. It stops feet smelling also. Pee works for jellyfish bites.

Bicarbonate of soda is the best remedy, just mix with a little water and rub it in the areas, you do not even have to let it dry.

I've read that athletes foot is caused by 'candida', which is a kind of internal fungal infection, and this infection thrives on a high sugar/carbo diet.

So its recommended to cut out these kind of foods.

Eat plenty veg and fruit, including garlic.

Clean your foot with brandy (any strong spirits) and then wash and dry it as normal and then use talc on the effected area to dry it out. Repeat this as often as poss every day till it's sorted out the prob (especially the talc).

this shit is extremely hard to get rid of when you get it...it's always on you like a cheap suit. i've battled it ever since i was a teenager (and i'm 30).

Oh, man, that's a waste of liquor! Can I drink it first and then piss it on my feet?

In fact, if I drink enough brandy I piss on my feet anyway...

In all seriousness, thanks everyone for the tips. Strong acids (vinegar), strong alkaline (baking soda), mild saline (urine) -- those seem like they would all attack the fungi's moisture needs.

I've found that airing out the shoes is really important. The 'official packing list' for any Army training I go to always says two pair boots, and most people don't do it, so the shower floors are contaminated surfaces - always wear "shower shoes" in public showers, like at the gym.

peeing on the feet is extremely effective...and just keeping your feet dry and aired out as much as possible.
