Israel continues its attacks on Gaza for the 17th consecutive day.

An Iranian analyst believes that the continuation of Israeli attacks on Gaza will inevitably trigger suicide-bombings in the West.

In an interview with Deutsche Welle Bahman Nirumand said that the escalation of the crisis in Gaza and Western support for Israel is likely to lead to the spread of terrorism in the West.

The Berlin-based author criticized German Chancellor Angela Merkel for blaming Hamas as the igniter of the Gaza war and went on to urge the US and European countries to change their unilateralist approach to the Israel-Palestine issue.

Since the beginning of the Israeli onslaught against Gaza on Dec. 27, 919 Palestinians have been killed and 4,100 others have been wounded.

Tel Aviv says only 10 soldiers have been killed in the military operations it launched against the densely-populated strip to end Hamas rocket attacks on southern Israel. Hamas rocket fire has killed three settlers.

Nirumand said it was unfortunate to see that the death of one Israeli soldier is regarded as a catastrophe in the US and Germany while the massacre of hundreds of Gazans does not seem to provoke much of a reaction.

Despite the UN resolution 1860, which called for and 'immediate' and 'durable' ceasefire in the region, Israel continued pounding Gaza for the 17th consecutive day on the basis that the UN resolution is "not practical".
